I want to ride my bicycle,

I want to ride my bike,

I want to ride my bicycle,

I want to ride it where I like.

Yes, indeed, that's Queen from the album Jazz with Bicycle Races here on your Wednesday evening KLIV 93.4.  Folks, I think you will like riding your bicycle on the new riverside section of the cycleways.  Dozens of Anôrienites joined several KLIV radio personalities for the ribbon cutting on Friday, and we all promptly experiences the thrill of riding under the new bridge.  We'll be right back with current conditions, and more classic rock, after a message and the evening programming schedule of our affiliate, NBC TV Channel 9...

John, good thinking on using Peg's trail for the under bridge section.  Mix and match always seems nice and random to me.  You have set the antennae up well also.  I like to climb hills, so I've seen a few of them up close.  I always thought SC stations would look more natural with their transmitters off campus on some nearby hill.  I bet they, along with the studio, look cool at night (hint, hint).  Yes, I will try to find an acceptable shot of something and post it in the next couple weeks.  My mountainous tile has only roads and bridges yet, but if there was a "Show Us Your Hair Raising Mountain Roads" thread I could probably post in it.  It's insane how much time they take.  I did rename the bridges beginning with ZZZ, and now they are in my selections as well.

My shopping trip was shortened to going to Walmart for groceries, as I dislike subzero flurries except viewed through the window from my warm cozy chair.  But there behind a Dixie Chicks DVD, lo and behold, was the Royal Albert Hall show.  I either overlooked it before, or it was new.  It was a great show.  I loved Badge, White Room, the drum solo, and the interviews when they talked about not knowing if they still could keep up that pace and such.  They could.  Thanks for the tip, and hope your week's been good, John.  Happy Two Year Anniversary for Anduin Valley, although a bit belated!  How about a little dancing to celebrate?

Hi, just have to say that i have lived and breated AVR for the last 24 hours, reading the whole CJ from beginning to end, and i'm absolutely blown away by what you have acheived within the game. It's given me a lot of inspiration as a new player. I've had the game a long time, but never really got the hang of playing, this CJ has given me the inspiration to try again.

    Rayden - Little Italy

    Hola Sylvio,

Sorry about the big picture it looks like all the big files hosting sites are going down the drain theses days! Tested the link monday morning and it's finally working...

    See you soon amigo!

    Take care

Benedict - The Mayors of Ellis Valley

Hehehe.. I wish I would have this patience too in everything I do...

    Take care

    Bat - Capporth City

    Thanks Bat!

    Gilligone

About the crossings, I just like seeing those small railway bridges! That and the fact that they allow a better flowing traffic.

    See you!

    Triaxiom

    Welcome to Anduin Valley Triaxiom,

I guess that if one may be described as being sick because he/she puts a lot of attention in what he/she's doing, then I'm guilty as charged! Not only for AVR, but for my work and my guitar playing, and my photography, and my Tai-Chi class, and my reading, motorcycling oops strike that, sold it.... hummm... am I forgetting something??

Seriously, I do put a lot of attention in everything I'm doing, It's a curse! but I don't see that as a problem, I'm just made that way, I guess you'll have to blame my parents! hehehe...

    See you.

    Fallon144

    Hey Fallon,

Thanks, I'm just having fun, and I guess that the attention I put in the presentation comes with the fact that I really like my job.

    Take care

    Schulmanator - Schulmania

    Hi Schul,

As far as I'm concerned, I've dropped the graphed paper approach, too time consuming, I'd rather go with the trial and error thing. As you say, I also mostly wing it, I just go with a general sketch of the zone and go with the flow!

As for the bridge (near the TV studio) setup, I just took inspiration from one I saw often when doing my motorcycle rides.

Always good to read you Schulmanator,

    Take care

    Owen - (Owenluby) - Unifire

    Hi Owen,

Hey don't start calling me names!  Hehehe....

    Take care

David (dedgren) - Three Rivers Region

    Hey David,

Yep it sure does look like it! Either that or an old recycled plow, but then again... what's the diff?

And if all our vehicles were using BCM (bottled cow methane) it would give us yet another reason to hate traffic jams!

About my bridgeworks I wouldn't dare show it in AVR (ratings... you know...)

I guess working on a 3RR quad would be a nice change of pace, but I won't be available until around mid april if all goes right.

    Take care my friend!

    -John

    Phil (PhilsCafe) - Acorn Creek

    Salutations mon cher Phil!

Yeah well.... I might have exaggerated a bit with the thermometer bit there.... I would not have left the poor thing outside in the first place, it was way too cold! WINKSpeaking of which this morning (Tuesday) with the wind chill factor it's now minus 37 Celcius... but hey! they tell us it should be sunny in july!

C'est toujours un plaisir de lire tes commentaires.

Always good to read you my friend!

    Take care!

    -John

    Natuurzoon - Rochelle County

    Hi natuurzoon,

    Thanks for your comments!

    See you

    Nik-nik

    Hey Niek,

The cyclepath doesn't go under the first bridge, seeing how the underside of that particular bridge was shady I just tried to trick the eye by putting lots of trees nearby and the result is somewhat convincing, but as I said before, I'm on the lookout to find a tutorial on how to transform a texture into a prop, this way I could use it as a hanging prop and be able to place it under the bridge for real.

Without Fred (Mrbisonm) help to transform his Village battery the end result would not have been the same on the antennas setup, I really wanted that powered shed nearby.

About Myfilehut (and Filelodge as well...) it seems like most of the pic hosting sites (the big files that is) are down! I've tried to find some alternative but they all have limitations on bandwith or they delete the files after 30 days or some other rules... Oh well.... still looking for an alternative solution!

Be careful with the second honeymoon thing! You ask me I'd say that's the reason why you have three kids in the first place! WINK

Groningen looks great saw the article in Wikipedia.... Bernoulli, the physician was born there! Lovely place.

I sure hope that you at least score a goal while messing your good shoes! Was it worth it? Don't answer that I'm sure it was...

Regards to you and your family my friend see you soon!

    Take care

    -John

    Jacky (jacqulina) - Paradise Falls

    Hey Jacky,

Yep sure is good news, and now we have a cat as well in the house! For a few weeks at least, been a while since we had a pet in the house.... hehehe..

So no more soldiers!! What a shame!! WINK

Using the pine trails is the only "real" alternative I've found so far, beside using Jeroni's tunnel lot, to go under the bridge, but I'm still looking to correct that situation... if I only can find the tutorial I'm looking for.

Have a great week my friend, see you next time

    Take care

    -John

    James - hondo42769

    Hi James,

Well, don't hold your breath about the zig-zaggy sector, I haven't actually played the game for several days now! The only free time I have right now is either devoted to the family, my guitar playing, and that's about it... situation will probably get back to normal by the end of april, but until then.... C H A O S !!! WINK  Naaaahhhh.... it's not so bad hehehe...

And yes the more and more I think about it I believe that the dead end solution might just be the ticket.

Your idea of keeping more tiles before using a small slope is really good, I should have think of that! ** hearing a slap on the forehead **

I agree about the usefulness of a hanging lot for the cycleways, still looking for a tutorial on turning textures to props. You were right about the solution I used on the other bridge, I just "camouflaged" the junction so the eye is kind'of tricked.

I'll talk to the station manager about the X-Files, there should be no problems.

The stairs are indeed part of BuddyBud pieces more precisely "Jeronij Concrete Wall AddOn Stairs" just click on the link and it'll be the 8th one in the list.

And about my plugin folder, let's just say that it's so fat that you could start a new line of jokes like "Yo' plugins folder's so fat that....." well I'll leave the rest to your imagination!

My friend enjoy your weekend, as for me I'm bracing myself for the upcoming snowstorm that should hit us today (this is written wednesday morning).

    Take care

    -John

    Threestooges Ð Matt

    Hi Matt,

    How are you doing?

The overpass in pic 14 did turn out right in the end, but let's say that it was a bit "capricious".... it's not the easiest lot to place, but in the end it looks great! What I meant was that I didn't like the first setup I made with it, but if you look at pic 23 you'll see that I've elongated the slope making it like a two stepped slope (is it a correct expression?).

The zig zagged road will probably go the dead end way. A main street connecting with diagonals dead ends, at least for now....

The Peg stream you're talking about, let me see (rummaging into pictures reserve) it's about.. (looking into Adobe's Bridge...) a hundred and 60 pictures down the road, (about 6 or 7 updates away...)

Good to see you Matt, enjoy your weekend and looking forward to reading you again.

    Take care

    -John

    Carlbryan - Hill Shire County

    Welcome to Anduin Valley Carl,

Always good to meet new visitors in Ol' AVR

Glad to know you like it, thanks for taking the time to write an encouraging word, it's always appreciated.

Drop by anytime you fell like it, the door's always open!

    See you

    Liv - Livin in Sim

    Hi Liv,

Bicycle race, what an excellent choice! this one, Fat Bottomed Girls and Killer Queen are amongst my favorites!

Peg's trails where the only logical choice, and they'll fit the bill nicely until I can create a overhanging lot for the cycleways, glad to know that you liked the idea!

I agree that very often, antennas are located on nearby hills or mountains, but I liked the idea of having them close by, and they were perfectly filling that space. The TV studio night shot is already taken, I've even showed it a couple of months ago as a teaser.... But nonetheless it'll be reposted in a following update. Can't wait to see those mountain roads of yours!

Good to know that you liked the Cream show, I plan to buy it if I don't get it for my birthday, last time, I've watched it while sipping a glass of ArdBeg, what a pleasure! Ginger (Baker) drum solo on toad is one of the best I've heard, but for me the best one is still Moby Dick played by Led Zeppelin's John Bonham. But Mr Baker remain my favorite drummer by his ability while improvising. The interviews were as entertaining as the show itself, since then I've re-read some material on Ginger Baker, he was quite a character in his youth! Not the average grand father! WINK

Thanks for remembering AVR's second anniversary Liv, very appreciated.

My day begun on a harsh note, I was up at 5:15AM and it took me 90 minutes to clean my driveway (this with a snowblower!) we received 18 inches of snow last night! (this written Thursday morning) And I must say that your dancing nun just made my day my friend! LOL

Always a great pleasure reading you.

Enjoy your week and take care

    -John

    Alex - homeandaway

    Welcome to Anduin Valley Alex,

Glad to see you appreciate it, come back anytime you feel like it!

    See you

PS. Your avatar looks a lot like the last cat I had!

    Take care

    Chuckles74

    Chuckles, Welcome to Anduin Valley!

Let me say that I'm honored that you chose to make your first post in AVR. After being a Simtrop member since august 2004

I'm really impressed by the fact that you took the time to read the entire thing! Hat's off to you.

And if AVR have inspired you to try again, then it was worth the time and effort, I hope you'll have as much fun as I had.

Over two years ago, Jeroni's SCR (Sculpting Columbia River) had the same effect on me, and gave me the push necessary to do something different.

So best of luck to you, and please drop by anytime you like, you'll always be welcome.

    Take care

    -John

This update is dedicated to David, who, with his great tutorials, "pushed" me into ploppable water and detailling.

Cold as heck here today, even with the fireplace it's hard to maintain 22 celcius in the house! Usually when I start a fire it's always between 25 and 27!

That's winter for you! As I said to Liv, we received 18 inches of snow, biggest snowfall since 2002... I don't mind the snow, but that cold... yeeech!

Anyhow, great to read your posts!

Enjoy the weekend, I hope that you'll have better weather than us here.

    See you next friday

    In the meantime

Take care and enjoy life 10.gif

We in Holland might wish that we had that much snow and such temperatures. It's 5 degreed (celcius) higher than normal in this time of year.

Cool update, nice pond, especialy the trees besides it.

    Hey,

I found my interest in sc back (again) but I almost forgot to visit my old favourite cj 3.gif Looks like I missed alot in the meantime. That stream is looking amazing, I once tried that plopable water, but it didn't turned out well. Anyway, I can't wait for next update!

BTW: I agree with Gozer_Jep, It's quite hot for the time of the year in The Netherlands. It's around the 10 degrees now, but we did have some snow last week through. The only problem was that it melted the next morning.

Another fine update. Why did you terraform with rail as opposed to road?

You did a fine job blending your development into the natural background. You have a nice selection of trees and the ploppable water experiment I think is a success. It offers you a lot of cool options for the future of AV.

I love the fall trees- my favorite season!

I see what you mean by the two-stepped slope and it does blend in better. When I first saw the origninal set up, I didn't realize it was part of a broader (and somewhat industrial) area, and in that sense it fits much better as it is (which I'm guessing is why you kept it that way). For it being May 2006, pic 02 isn't that bad with detailing, but the pond in 11 is quite well done (especially with the inclusion of the lily pads and the brighter green grass (or whatever it is). In pic 13, it seems as if the driveways of the gas station are blocked by plants and a light pole (I'm all for nice decorations, but really). It looks great, and I'll be waiting for the next update. Stay warm and take it easy.

    Hello John,
It's nice to see an update dedicated to David.  When I first stumbled upon 3RR, I hadn't been to ST for months and had not played the game for even longer.  Then I saw what he was doing with the plop water and got inspired.  In fact, up to that point, I had never looked at a CJ, nor had I posted any comments anywhere on ST.  Just spent my time lurking and DL'ing stuff from the STEX.  David's mention of AVR is what also led me here.  So, David gets a big 44.gif from me!  As for your first attempt with the plop water, I'll just say that it looks better than my first attempt.  But, my first attempts were not in any of my actual cities.  I played with it first in a "test" region to see if I could get the results I wanted.  So far, so good.
I hope the chaos calms down for you.  And, I'm glad you didn't have to shovel all that snow by hand!
    Take care,
    James

Kiss that frog, lady, kiss that frog.

Jump in the water, come on baby, jump in with me,

Jump in the water, come on baby, get wet!

    (Get wet, get wet!)

It's straight up 11 o'clock on a Thursday night, that was Peter Gabriel, with Kiss That Frog, looks like he's tired of having webbed feet, he wants to be her prince.  We're heading on in to our program, Jazz Nightly, first up is the lovely Dianna Krall, with her rendition of I've Got You Under My Skin...

Hey, John, you soon will be the Prince of Ploppable Water, looking good.  I'm glad you renamed David's Inn 2.gif, and it looks like a good spot to look out over the stream from the patio.  Yes, I was about to mention that up next in the play list was Fat Bottomed Girls, since the two songs are kind of a matched set.  But I didn't know how my dancing nun would take that--she might have stopped dancing and given me a good swift kick.  I'm glad she gave you a chuckle.  Hope the weather improves.  We finally got a good dump, but now it has gone back to warm.  I had a cold that got better, then came back with a vengeance, feels more like the flu now.  So I'm off to bed, take care.

    Gozer_Jep

    Welcome to Anduin Valley Gozer_Jep,

Yep we had so much snow, that sunday we went for a walk in the woods with our snowshoes and we only did about 25% of the distance we usually do!

And we were twice as exhausted! Walking 10 paces then rest, walking 10 paces etc. etc..

Thanks for stopping by, come back anytime, visitors are always welcome!

    Take care

    Bat - Capporth City

    Hi Bat, thanks man!

Gilligone - The headwaters of Nemonos

    Hi Gilligone,

Those diagonals are some small lots I've done a while ago PLACEHOLDER

And what I meant was exactly that... the pictures were taken in may 2006, I began creating Anörien in March 2006, and played the game on a regular basis until august 2006, since then my gaming time has been cut drastically! I play perhaps an hour a week no more! sometimes not at all... Anörien is still not finished as of yet, it'll be the longest time I've taken to create a city! It'll go over a year, because so far I've completed about 70% of the city map. Hope to finish it before the summer! WINK

    Hi Ids'

Thanks man, glad you appreciate, you'll see more commerce in that area very soon!

Nahhh! I'm not that wet! It was just a friendly push!

    Thanks for helping me out...WINK

    Take care my friend!

    ThomasAH - Zorturia

    Hey Thomas!

Very long time no see! Good to see you again!

As for the snow if you want some, I'd wish there was a way for us to send some your way. The snow I like it's mostly the cold weather I don't like that much. Looking forward to reading you again!

    Tot Ziens!

    GMT - Greater Columbia River

    Hi Torben,

Thanks for stopping by my friend, and I'm glad to know you still appreciate AVR, even if I'm not that active on the forums these past weeks/months.

    Take care

    Rayden - Little Italy

    Hey Sylvio,

17! Wow, my wife would gladly trade in the snow and cold weather for that!

On the other hand, on those cold evenings, we can huddle up on the couch in front of the fireplace while watching a good movie! There's always a good side to a situation! WINK

Wishing you a lot of snow  for your weekend! At least as much as we had! See the answer to Gozer_Jep above.

    Take care my friend!

    -John

    Schulmanator - Schulmania

    Hey Schul,

Thanks my friend, the rails terraforming do a good job when you want to keep a very low grade, I like using the (the rails) for those long stretch of avenues.

And fall is also my favorite season, I just love the colors and the crisp air! Not as biting as in winter.

    Enjoy your weekend!

Salut Phil, I slowly begin to grasp the possibilities of the ploppable water (it's about time!!)

But even then, using it to it's full potential is still something I'm thriving for.

I agree about the highways concrete pillars, even in RL I don't like 'em!

I guess that they are part of what we may call "the ugly necessities" WINK

A flower blooming! hehehe... I doubt that I would find one of those here! we are freezing our b*&tts!

    Good to read you Phil!

Have a great week my friend

    -John

    Fallon144

Hey Fallon, I forgot to mention that one of the water towers was reserved for Ol' Maggots Distilleries, so that leaves two for the town, but I like 'em anyways! WINK

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Take care

    Threestooges – Matt

    Hey Matt,

About the ploppable water, I think I'm getting a bit better at it these days, but still... I guess we're never really satisfied with what we do!

Thanks for mentioning the light pole and plants problem, I'll have to call the city engineer and tell him to advise Mr Fredegar Bolger (the hired hand) to stay off the moonshine for a few days.... sheesh! He's such a good guy, but sometimes....

Today the weather is more bearable, only minus 16 celcius, cold but OK...

    Good to see you again!

    Enjoy your weekend

    -John

    Aleking - AK's Watchamacalllt CJ !

Hey Alek, indeed long time no see!

Thanks for stoppin' by my friend really appreciated!

    Take care

    Chuckles74

    Hey Chuckles,

don't worry about the grid pattern, after all most big cities are based on the grid pattern. And when done well, it can give some spectacular results. I'm currently trying to find some way of redoing the grid but in a more "disorganized way" don't know how it will turn out yet!

    See you later

    Take care

    James - hondo42769

    Hi James,

I'm sure David's influenced a lot of SC4 player, I know he influenced me on the super detailing thing!

Glad to know that he was responsible for your coming to AVR.

Trying things on a test region sure is the best way to go, it can be frustrating to destroy some patiently created setup just because of a blunder... (been there, done that, still have the proverbial hat!)

The real chaos is not over it'll surely last till the middle or the end of april...

Well, each job have it's quirks I guess...

And no I don't shovel much, I really like to use my snowblower, I feel like a kid with his Tonka trucks when I use it! hehehe...

Good to read you James, and see you soon

    Take care

    -John

    Shana - Laurie -Edelstein County-

Hi Shanna, Welcome to Anduin Valley!

Don't worry about your english, you express yourself very well!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and have your say.

Come back anytime you want, the door's always open!

    See you

    -John

    Liv - Livin in Sim

    Hi Liv,

Sorry about the flu, for almost two years now I didn't get one! ** knock on wood ** (no no not Amii Stewart disco hit!)

About David's Inn, It'll change a bit, this was the first setup and I wanted something more.... less.... kind of... well you know what I mean. So one day I saw a new BAT and BINGO! just modified it a bit in the LE and.... well you'll see in a subsequent update.

The weather's improving a bit, we now can enjoy the outside without freezing! I don't mind cold weather, but I didn't sign up to live under arctic conditions either! WINK

We also appreciate the fact that the days are getting longer, more sun!Ù

That's about it for now, have a great week and pamper yourself, or better yet have someone pamper you! That's the way to treat a cold...WINK

    Take care my friend

Wow, great work again. Thats crazyness that you take your pics so far in advance of when you will use them in an update. Is that path transit enabled? Or were you just pretending that it would facilitat pedestrian access...?

24.gif...snooze, snorr, grumble, bruhe....BRUH, HUH WHAT! 23.gif is it time to wake up for the next episode of AVR?

    Good just in time.

    JUST IN TIME?

You missed last weeks episode. Oh No!

Bummer, what went wrong? Oh, I see serious case of RL.

Well that update was nice, great ploppable water stuff, nice that david's Inn, I love to have a beer there any time.

    Now onto the next update

Pic 1& 2 Amazing how you make the Rural Highway look so darn good. Also great that avenue highway intersection (pity there is a bumb in the avenue, but that must be bad maintenance 2.gif 2.gif

Super 8 and Chili's go good together!

The warehouse project (sounds like an album name...nope....googling learns me it's a discotheque in Manchester) is great. I love to know where those warehouses can be found.

mmm. pic 5 I notice that the highway is going a bit humpy bumpy there in the lower left corner.

Pic 6&7 great use of ploppable trees!

Pic 8&9 beatifull seasonal trees (why is that jurk placing his van linear to the street? GET A DRIVER"S LICENCE!!!)

    Pic10. What a view.

Pic 11. Great nite shot. Nice colours!

Pic12-14 Great trails (shortcut to the chili's?)

Pic 15. Very nice shot. A bit out of place in this country side as it would fit in any bigger city.

Pic 16-19. great use of that path. I love the way you use your little filler lots. They are quite handy.

Pic 20 Masterpiece in all it's glory.

Pic 21 Masterpiece in all it's glory part deux (pity of that no street zot, but we know about it from several updates ago).

Someone told me it's all happening at the zoo. I do believe it, I do believe it's true.

So i went with the three lads to the zoo yesterday. Great day for a visit (it's 12 degrees C here in the Netherlands) and we had a great time. Yesterday was one big quality time day I only had one glitch while changing diapers, but I leave the details to your imagination (Yuck!).
