... Here's hoping this journal grows enough to REALLY need it.

I'm also seriously considering starting up a second CJ (so I don't get sick of this one like has happened so many times before). That region already has a bit of a start. This would remain my major CJ. I would merely dabble in the other one, only updating it occasionally.

For the purpose of continuity, I would set it in the nation of Newtonia also.

I also just completed a backup of all my regions.

    Hi Cammo

    Still looking good!

If I can offer a comment, because I did the same thing in my CJ and was not happy about it after. Just before taking your pics you should turn off the grig by pressing 'G', this way we could enjoy your pics even more 29.gif

But besides this, continue your good work! And about the last pic, that could be a Skyscraper growing upside down 17.gif
    quote>

I always forget to do that. I also always forget that it's just 'g' to turn off the grid.

Hey, you and I both got to Page 2 at about the same time! 1.gif

I was intrigued by the first post of your journal where you explain your road network. That always gets my motor running (so to speak...). I'm liking this very much, in the other aspects as well!

Interesting cj! It looks very polished, with the little map-inserts in the upper left corner of your pics. I especially like Auckland Hills; the sandstone-mod really looks stunning in those pics; and off course I like Amsterdam Central....uhmmm.. I mean ManuKau Station a lot!

Btw, Twin Harbour Region is among the most realistic city-layouts I have ever seen on Simtrop! So.... all I can say is

    Keep it up!44.gif44.gif

I play merely for aesthetics. If a city doesn't look good though, I keep working at it.

Thought I should give everyone a glimpse into what the government in Newtonia is planning for mass transit in this region.

    twinharbourtransit9zb.th.jpg alt=Free Im
(click on thumbnail to see full-size image; image far too large in size and dimensions for simtropolis).

Bright yellow means already built rail/subway/el, pale yellow means under construction or proposed.

I've also shown existing ferry transit in blue, and proposed locations for the major international airport. Feel free to comment on which one would be best - I'm open.

EDIT: whoops, forgot the image. 18.gif

Hmm....I try to play SC4 the same as you said above....

I think a city must have a certain look and I don't give up until I'm satified with the end result...

Good work on the region transit!44.gif

Apologies about the lack of updates, and the over-presentation of regional images, but I'm doing this one for a reason.

Here's a non-transport view of the region (thumbnailed, of course).

    twinharbour27cx.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho
WARNING, THE REGION IMAGE is over 800KB in size (not the thumbnail, the big one).

You may notice, that yet again, there's a different water colour. I requested a custom water ('Auckland Water' on the STEX) from timotheus4. The image on the STEX really doesn't do it justice.

I also adopted the PEG God Mode Tree thingy. You should be able to see a bit of it in use already. Haven't opened all my cities yet. You can probably see I've also opted for a certain option for the new major airport (update on that soon). Can't remember which number it was.

CITY BEGINNING TO REACH FOR THE SKY

It seems like only yesterday that Greater Manukau was simply a small town consisting mostly of houses. No more.

The city's buildings are starting to reach for the sky, with the most recent project (a 16-storey residential tower not far from the Harbour St. terminal) completed just yesterday.

We expect this trend to continue, came a statement from the city's mayor. The national capital was intended to be a working city, albeit a good looking one. We have a long way to go.

How far up can we go? The city is expected to hit the 100,000 mark sometime next year, with 200,000 expected in a few years time. The city's growing - fast.

Introducing the Capital District. (also known as the Embassy District).

    embassydistrict4zy.jpg width=800 alt=Ima
The above image shows a great deal of the Embassy district.
A few embassies are highlighted, as are the High Court, and the apartment complex. The district isn't yet finished.

The parliament sitting rooms are actually underground - this way, if parliament's sitting, and there's an attack, the parliamentarians are safe®.

The embassy district is best accessed by ferry (you might just notice the ferry terminal at the bottom of the picture).

    The same area at night:

NR and Metro Manukau Place Tenders for new trains

The existing Metro fleet has become somewhat tired. The existing trains are about 25 years old (they were loaned from Newbury), and are approaching retirement.

As a result, the Newtonian Government, along with the Metro Manukau have placed a tender out for the construction of a new fleet of trains.

NR (National Rail) is currently in need of a new long-distance train. With the Manukau Gap closing fast, it will soon be possible to have cross-national services.

Metro Manukau and NR have agreed to purchase the same basic model of train, although they will have different interior finishings.

Concept drawings of what the two bodies would like are included below:

    Metro Manukau
    Driver car

Anyone with the abilities to take on this tender should contact Newtonian authorities (ie PM me 18.gif). This request is also posted in the 'Post your Passenger Train requests here' thread (which nobody ever seems to read...), but I figured I might as well add it here as well, I mean, it makes for part of the storyline anyway.

Finding your way around town - The City Loop: Part 1

    manukaurail5nb.jpg width=800 alt=Image H

Introducing the city loops. There are two of them, and they operate in tandem to carry passengers around the city centre.

Being the crux of the transport network, they get heavy usage.

You can see the stations labelled. The ones in bold are significant transfer stations.

Harbour St. is also the main ferry terminal. The setup here is somewhat akin to that at Circular Quay in Sydney. As such, this station is almost as important as Manukau Central.

Oooh, I like the dual loop setup. Reminds of the systems in a lot of cities where lines come together in the center city and then split apart again.

And those trains schematics are nothing short of impressive! Did you get the templates from something, or did you draw everything freehand?

Finding your way around town: The City Loops: Part 2

    federalparkstations1si.jpg width=800 alt

These two stations, while not as important as the other stations on the yellow loop (the yellow loop is the, well, more yellow line on the previous update) are still significant. Of particular importance is the Federal Park Station. Due to there being no onsite parking, during games, all access to the stadium is by public transport. There is another ferry stop just off this shot near this railway station, and a bus stop down there is on the way.

    =============

They're an actual train, except instead of my custom text on the side they say CityRail and have the CityRail logo.

The official CityRail website is here:
    http://www.cityrail.info

Click on the 'About us' section and then 'Our Fleet'.

The trailer car though was a swish bit of image editing, though (the train this one's based off is a railcar, having only two carriages, both looking pretty much the same).

It took me ages to figure out where it was (it can be particularly annoying.

You'll probably also recognise the little train icon...

Love the Embassy District.  Very realistic there.  Love the pics, as always.

But I have one question.  Near Federal Park Stadium, is that a dense forest of trees????  Looks blocky with that ariel shot.  Thats just my opinion though.

    Introducing Auckland.

I thought it would be a good idea to take a break from the city loop stuff. I've still included the little icons in this city though (I think they're here to stay).

This city is pretty much situated on the site of the real Auckland CBD. Not that I'm recreating it in any way, of course...

    aucklandbridge2cd.jpg width=800 alt=Imag

The Great Auckland Bridge is one of the gateways to the more important part of this region. The southern districts will contain the vast majority of the major centres in the region. The only major centre north of Aucland within this region is Essendon.

The above picture was taken two days before its opening (hence why there's no traffic).

If you choose not to continue along the Harbour Motorway (M1) (ironically you have to use an interchange to do so), you'll probably be heading here:

    aucklandcity11yy.jpg width=800 alt=Image
    (looking north)

This is the centre of Auckland. Auckland, as mentioned earlier, is not the main centre of the region, although it will certainly rank up there once I really get the region cranking.

Here's the area as viewed from the north:
    aucklandcity23nv.jpg width=800 alt=Image

Thanks folks! Keep the comments coming.

one a good not this looks like a wikid city, but on a bad not i am personally offended by how you included australia in the smallish nations. Australia, is in by no way small, population, sure it maybe average, but if you think about its influence and its development it is one of the best countries in the world, see our contribution to the tsunami relief, we were the highest donating country, gov wise 1billion, and then we have help hundreds of nation wide events to donate. anyways other than that i love your city lol, sorry bout that part im just very prud of aus 18.gif17.gif but yeah im def following this 1

My point in including Australia in the 'smallish nations is the fact that we don't tend to have very large embassies.

On the global economic scale it is quite a small country in comparison to some others, although Sydney is certainly one of Asia's leading business cities (yeah, I know, we're technically part of Oceania but we tend to relate more to Asia.

FYI Australia takes up the first 3 floors of that building.

I did not intend to offend any Australians - otherwise I would be offending myself. I too am proud of Oz, (Sydney especially 9.gif) particularly with that donation effort, gosh that was amazing... That definitely made me proud to be Australian.

That tree lot was something that isn't so good upon second look.

Thanks for the suggestion, MayorTim. I'm working on it... trying to find a good tree lot on here as I speak (can't be bothered doing my own, lol). Anyone know of any? I know of (and have) the PEG random trees lot but am looking for something with a wider variety of the Maxis trees...)

Ok, I've been reworking the parks using PEG's random tree lots. I think they look quite good:

I don't know if I've shown the port area yet, but anyway...

You probably already noticed that I marked Flinders St. Stn on here (I hijacked the name from Melbourne 18.gif), though it's far less important than the real one.
