Simtropolis Site Bugs

I have encountered a problem with posting links, using Firefox 3. When I try to do so, it looks like this (this link is supposed to lead to simtropolis.com). When you move over the link, it will show you this in the status bar.

bugreportbo8.jpg

The marked text does change to a link, but the 'Link' pop-up doesn't close and in the post, the link only says javascript:void(0);... With IE, it works fine. Actually, I think I'm not the only one with this problem, since I've seen other members struggling with posting links.

Another related problem is the anchor function. With Firefox 3, I can't enter an anchor name, because the box doesn't work. It works with IE however.

@ Wrightguy0: that's probably the page flip bug. See  abcvs' post above (4th post on this page).

The forums search bar hasn't worked since the re-organization of the forums. Every time you search for something, you get this message (no matter what you search for).

"Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between. Please re-construct your search without these ignored words."

I'm getting the same message. It happens from both the normal search and advanced search.

No matter what I type into the search bar on the left-side menu, I always get this message:

Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between. Please re-construct your search without these ignored words.

So yeah, what's up with that? Is it just me? I tried searching the forum for things like "road" or "Dirk" with no success.

I'm getting it too. Does anyone have a success with the search from different browsers? I'm using Firefox 3 on Linux.

Hello guys.

I've got a fix for the annoying link bug (where a link turns into a useless Javascript link)

Now, there are two ways to fix this problem.

Firstly, if you are using the Quick Reply box, and you want to get a link that looks like this, then you type in..

< A HREF="http://LINKGOESHERE">TEXTGOESHERE< /A >

and remove the space between the "< A" and the spaces between "< /A >"

This will give you this:

TEXTGOESHERE

Or...when you press the reply button, and you highlight a link you want to make linkified, then when you press OKay on the Insert Link screen, you will notice that that screen doesn't disappear like it is supposed to. It will just be placed into the background. Unhighlight the link, and then highlight it again exactly as it was before, and press the "Insert/Edit Link" button. You'll find that your lovely link has turned into the useless javascript rubbish (javascript:void(0);/*1221232939492*/). Just replace that with the link you want again, and press OKay and it should work.

Boggy1,

I posted a video tutorial above on how to fix it in an easier way. 2.gif

I usually close it, because eventually you're going to have to close it one way or another. 3.gif

Before I registered I was able to search simtropolis.  After registering, any search term I enter results in this: "Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between. Please re-construct your search without these ignored words"

Even putting in a single word, like "tutorial" gives me that result.  I've also tried searching for "rail" and "overpass" with the same result.  I don't know what the problem is.  I've allowed any cookies that come up, so it is not a cookie problem.

Normally I would try to search the forums to see if my problem has been addressed before, but I can't do that in this case.

Can anyone help me solve this?

Have you heard?   The Simtropolis Forums Search feature is broken.  It does not recognize any keyword typed in.

Originally I thought I was just choosing the wrong words, then i realized it was a site-wide problem when other users began complaining.

Can anyone verify that the owners and managers of Simtropolis are aware of the problem?

Any idea when it might be fixed?   Thanks.

i guess that would be it then, because i use firefox! much better than ie, and much more widely used

simtropolis should be updated to reflect this

i think this would be the right place to post this. this morning (aprox 8am cst) i was reviewing my cj and came to see my poll was missing. upon trying to edit it (post 1 page one of my cj R.U.S.) my first two post were just up and deleted. im not sure how this could of happened since i was only clicking "edit" on my first post and nothing else. I do have all of my information backed up because i design my pages locally before uploading their coding. any assistance i can get at getting my first two post (heck id even be happy just getting my first post) back i would appreciate it. that way i dont have to start a new funny looking thread :/ also, i have been having many annoying navigation and loading problems with st today. dont know if thats my end or yours just thought id toss that in there. thanks p.s. my link still works to get to my journal in my sig but you have to delete the anchor off the end in the address bar (you web designers should know what im talking about)

i keep getting this error when i try searching forums, regardless of what the search term is:

Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between. Please re-construct your search without these ignored words.

no results show up.

and when i try searching the stex, i get some weird bind error:

"Bind failed for autosuggest criteria, bind value is not a 1D array of strings"

search results however do come up.  its just a couple of annoying message boxes giving me that error.

<< NEW Bug Report >>  Forum Post Edit feature not working.

I have been experiencing this error with editing for the past few days. Luckily I spotted it before I lost any data.  I have tested it, and data loss is the result.

Details:  When I edit the original post in the thread:  All you can Modify in SimCity 4 (Poll inside)

to add an additional section, for example just minutes ago, when I added the Business Deal block of the List... it posted it fine.  But when I EDIT it again, all the data from the last 'edit session' that I added is NOT inside the edit window.  IF I don't figure out everything missing and put it back before clicking the 'Edit Message' button, then sure the NEW stuff will appear fine, but I will lose all the data from the last session that i didnt retype again.

Ever heard of this??  Is there some limit to the size that a post can be?  Maybe I hit that length limit.  (which would be sad for the purpose of the Thread).  Hope to hear back from someone from this post.  Thanks.

EDIT:  I Just realized, through additional research, that there is some weirdness going on between paragraphs in the exact area of the post that is causing the 'missing data on edit' problem.  I wonder if there is some hidden code that i just can't see that is the culprit to this issue.  (I suppose I could try to cut and paste the data out into NotePad on my machine, delete the sublists on either side of the suspected trouble area, and then from notepad, paste the data base in to the Edit Box and Save.  I suppose there is nothing to lose from trying that... so ill do it now.

EDIT2:  Okay, im back, tested a tons of different things... there is some weird hidden code thing going on, but it seems that it may not be the culprit.  After trying every possible situation, changing [ ] to ( ) in text, removing bold and other formatting, adding . after use of [ ], deleting and cutting and pasting from a non-rich-text-editor, I finally got it to function properly... and the answer seems to be... close the browser, clear the cache, and reopen the page, then Edit.  And i got what should be there.  So that appears to be the fix to the problem.  All Done.  So i guess you can ignore this Bug report now.  Thanks.

STEX search function is screwed up! Here are two error messages I got.

Bind failed for autosuggest criteria, bind value is not a 1D array of strings [Enable debugging by adding 'cfdebug' to your URL parameters to see more information]

The other one I can't copy and paste.

Perhaps it might be time to get new forum software?

This software's insecure and it's plagued with bugs... can it be fixed? Pretty please?
