I've been doing a lot with rail lately, and it dawned on me how easy it would be to add hi speed rail to sim city. If anyone would like to help me with this i would REALLY apperciate it. I'll Be Posting Some Concepts Within the next few hours... Does anyone have any ideas?

This is what I was aiming for... I think that it would be most realistic if it were elevated in urban areas, but i think it is better to keep it dirt still... maybe gravel. but not concrete.

This is as about as close as I could get in sim city now...

EDIT by Andreas: Image changed to link. Please read the rules, 800x600 is the max. for embedded images.

Would it be a replacement for the regular train? As far as I know, we can't add new transportation types...

Are you talking about modding the network speed as well, or just making it look like high-speed rail?

I Think It will be more like an extension of regular rail. It needs puzzle pieces, stations and trains. but not that much of real network modding. And I definately think it should have higher speeds.

    Nice Idea! 44.gif

I think it should replace monorail as well, and a two-tracked version of the elevated high-speed rail should be added.

A Shinkansen (bullet train) version could look better in dense urban areas.

    [Edit:]

Sorry I didn't see the above post. It should be a modded monorail network because it could be draggable. Puzzle pieces could be used for a ground version in rural areas.

ture... I mean the monorail system is supposedly for connecting far reaching areas or inter-city travel and it doesn't really do such a hot job at it... a hi speed train system would be a good replacement...

anyways.. i made a quick picture for a possible tunnel openning

Why should the system be designed for using four tracks? Usually, highspeed railways use double track and don't share them with other trains.

By the way, we can possibly simulate a new transporting with the tricky way I use to realize canal ferry systems. It may show railroad traffic in the queries and simulate regular trains but hide them, showing a custom vehicle instead using blind paths for a different network.

I like this alot! If the monorail is modded it'll be alot easier to have r$$$ suburbs (very common here in Sweden). 19.gif

Great Idea! To add a UK twist to this, it might be a good idea to have some sort of brick railway viaduct wich can run thru Industrialised/Well established urban areas. To Achieve this, I would make a guess that a cosmetic alteration would need to be carried out to the elevated Hi-Speed Rail network that you showed in your first pic.

What a good idea. Something that will make my cities more realistic as well as having something new to tinker with in them.44.gif

if you have rushour or delux it should be in either the misc menu for transport or the train menu in transport.

That is really REALLY cool Murakumon!
I like the elevated one for dense uran areas.
The ground one looks great too, for being in rurals areas.
I'd like to see a high fence surrounding the rural ones, as in most cases in real life versions this is how they are built. Is it possible you can do both ground and elevated ones in the same project?
    The tunnel entrance Rocks!!
Keep up the great work 44.gif

    great idea.

mabey you could just put in a kind of hi-speed rail to subway connection then add some new subway stations so you can have a kind of underground rail way station

this is an awesome idea, it would be nice to have a high speed train with real faster commuter time, so it could connect more efectively long distances.

    Great idea.

    Thanks Guys,

I Think We Should Have It Available In Both 2 and four tracks. I don't know about Hispeed to subway... maybe...

I think i would like to try making sunken puzzle pieces... that way you can have the wallls straight up and down.

    Just a few quick questions:

I've never actually seen hi speed rail [3.gif ] would a gravel ground texture bne more realistic than dirt?

And Is Anyone willing to help me with this? Like BATing and Modding. I can do textures, trains, and some bats.

This is a great idea!, but I would recommend putting textures at the bottom or the tracks when they are raised so you don't leave plain grass like what Maxis did with the elevated rail and monorail.

I have some pictures for you from a high speed train line perhaps it will help you.

If you are interested i may bat a pretty modern station for high speed trains here in my area.

Very impressive looking. Clean and crisp.
My personal opinion ... for what it's worth ...
    1. I'd prefer the monorail approach. I use the existing rail line a lot now and if you modify it to be high speed, it wouldn't make sense for freight trains which need a line to run on too. the existing rail line is shared by passenger and freight trains (just like in real life) and I'd hate to lose that.
    2. El-Rail already has the GLR and it probably wouldn't make sense to compete with that. Lots of people use it and it's concept makes lots of sense ... from a real-world perspective.
    3. I've always preferred a gravel base as that's what I'm used to seeing in the US. Although 3ddz's pics show both gravel and concrete. His 2nd pic looks
great as something to follow for the models.
    4. I'm working on some sunken highway walls that might be used for the sunken version of your high speed [mono]rail (extra hint, hehe) so I might be able to help there. Right now I'm struggling trying choose between geometry options now available because of pjot's diagonal mod. I may end up doing 2 versions. One that's more artistically pleasing using pjot's mod and one that works without the diagonal mod but isn't as appealing because it has to cover SC4's stupid jagged diagonal terrain. I can explain more if you're interested.

Anyway, very nice work indeed. Keep it up.

Believe in only what you can prove.

Is this possible with non 1-unit automata ? I remember that you could only could attach a 1-unit tram to the Morifari tram station, not a mod with engine and car ?

Yoman3: Remember to resize you picture to under 800x600 px. Forum rules.

Wow I think this would be a great addition to SC4 but I think you would have to have it as a city connection instead of replacing the normal rail network because it wouldnt look right having it slowing down from 200km/h to 0 in about 1 tile at a station every 10 tiles or so and then going back up to 200km/h in about 1 or 2 tiles, i like the idea, but it just wouldnt look right in the game.

Have been thinking of doing a mod of the new danish inter city train: IC4:
    ic4_railway_220px.jpg
BTW: The IC4 is still not being but into service.

Well the RL train is a diesel train, but I would add a pantograph any way.

Ok, then i guess it should replace the monorail system, since it does the same function only much more realistically

EDIT: WOW! I Really Like The ICE Train... I think that would be a good thing to model it after

VERY COOL IDEA! I think this is SO much more realistic and practical than the default monrail system. Keep up the good work

<DIV>Good Idea! As far as trains go, how about the new Acelas, America's only serious attempt to discover the advantages of High-speed electric rail. Which unfortunately, due to crappy Amtrak management (and breaking parts, which Bombardier/Alstrom are now sueing Amtrak over) will probably never see service again.</DIV>
