Hey Mayortim,

I just went through your whole city journal and must say this is one of the most realistic city journals I have seen yet, your suburbs, downtowns look great. I really love the Klondike International airport, it is huge but yet great. I really am speachless after seeing the downtown, I love the all the BATs, and I notice that you barely have any duplicates in the skyline, that is something really remarkable. Once, again every BAT is really looking great with your cities. The regional shots are awesome, I love the look, it kind of reminds me of NYC in a way..so many skyscrapers and suburbs around it, or maybe even more like chicago...just great work. 1.gif

You're right about the clearing by the highway; one does see that frequently. Nice job with the cemetary, and I agree that the turning lanes look fantastic in-game.

I really like this CJ very much, it's one of the biggest and most realistic I have ever seen. I am quite new to this site, but have been a simicity fan since the SNES version. After reading this journal I decided to start my own realtistic region and make a CJ about that, and YOU are the one who inspired me the most to do that.

I LOVE the diversity in your downtown section (*you made me download the entire database from the STEX for me to acomplish that 3.gif*) and your suburbs are very nice as well.

Great Job!

Wow... thanks for all the comments! It really is a shame that I have pretty much made up my mind to discontinue this journal. I have to say it was a VERY hard decision, and I have been thinking it over for the last week or so. I would really like to continue in Klondike Delta, but there are several problems, and most of them aren't fixable.

    1. My computer is too slow.
    2. Many parts of Klondike Delta are out of date. This wouldn't be such a major issue if I had a faster computer, however It is pretty much impossible to change anything in any city with over 120,000 sims on any reasonable timescale.
    3. My computer is too slow.
    4. I have a serious traffic issue. While making Klondike Delta, I noticed a serious traffic flaw which caused sims to not use my highways, and even though I got the njz's under control, if a add any new residential in any of my 3 major border cities, the sims that move in there instantly lose their jobs.
    5. New modds. There are some modds which I would really like to add to my cities (namely the glr) but things like that are very hard to add into an existing city, and it would be easier to just start over.
    6. My computer is too slow.

Even with these issues, it has been a REALLY REALLY tough decision for me. I hate dissapointing you guys, and I had really hoped to actually finish this one.

However, all is not lost. I will start a new city journal soon, though I can't give an exact timeframe.

Well, now that I cleared that up, I may as well reply to your replys. 1.gif

newy2, MrCinatit, SC4 meister, ephorex_77, oroen, GMT, palmgurl: Thanks for the support guys and girls, it really means a lot to me. 1.gif
    Mexicanboy13r: Thanks, and your welcome!
DragonAnime: Thanks for finally stopping by, too bad its right when I decide to move on! 2.gif
timstam001x0w: Welcome to Simtropolis Tim!39.gif39.gif Always cool to see another guy with the same name as me on these forums, and I am honored that you decided to make your first post here. I will definately check out your journal once it comes out!

Hey MayorTim, I might have just the mod to help you out on the traffic thing. I have a few in fact:

    1) I have mods that can force sims to use the fastest way to commute
    2) I have a mod that can make all sims carpool
    3) I also have a mod that forces all sims to use the mass transit system, instantly reducing traffic on all roads, but if you do that you will need a HUGE capacity in your public transport networks not to make them clog up.

    4) the easiest mod in this case, the one I use as well, is the no dilapidation and no abandoment mod. Just like you I am quite a sandbox player and prefer to make my cities real and beautiful than to play them by the initial rules of the game. Besides, once your city exceeds 100,000 sims massive abandonment always occurs without any mods, at least it does to me. No matter how many subway stations I build (usually on any streetcorner!). No matter how much asfalt I use to destroy nature to make room for smelly vehicles, or even how many monorail or trainlines I build in any direction, some flaw in this game always makes commuter time very long, even with green roads, even though close to the city center, so I pretty much don't care about the mods. The point is, this mod does not allow your buildings to dilapidate or be abandoned, so no matter how much traffic you have, it doesn't matter 9.gif

If you want any of these just e-mail me at timothystam@hotmail.com , or post here.
And if demand is high enough I will see if I can upload them here. I even think I initially got them from the STEX, but I'm not sure, so you might want to search it.

Next to that I'm really sorry to hear that you are giving up your city journal, but I understand how frustrating it is to change things when your cities have already advanced very far, and especially the slow computer must be a pain in the you know what 41.gif.

Anyways, if it helps 3.gif you can always come and see my CJ from Aurora with the capital Aurora City which I will probably upload tomorrow if I can get things done 3.gif

    Good Luck!

Hey, thanks for the offer, But I already have a traffic mod included, which 10x traffic speeds, 10x capacities, and 10x commute times. I never got the no dilapidation modd, because it is misleading and I like to know if my buildings are abandoned.

I will be watching for Aurora, and will be sure to check it out once it is uploaded.

Gosh...I'm so sorry it had to end...talk about great CJs....this was beyond Great...It is magnificent. It was laso one of my favorite CJs and I will miss Klondike Delta. You have influenced me in suburban building more than I can say.

RIP Klondike Delta...I hope once you could get about 512 RAM and maybe you can start a new region...one much better.

I'm sorry to read about the loss of the city/region. Will you be giving the city another shot, or starting a brand new one. I remember the complete computer failure i had a while ago, that completely destroyed my region of New Rhodesia. I didn't feel it was right to let go of the plans i had in stall for the city, so i re-did it the best i could and hey presto; New Rhodesia the second age began.

Regardless, you'll still be getting an embassy, simply for the hard work you've put into your city building. Best of luck in all endeavours.9.gif

I decided to discontinue Klondike Delta on purpose. But don't worry, I have taken into account your embassy, and I am going to make a Klondike Delta 2, similar to how I made a Gotland and a Gotland 2.

I'm glad your turning lanes came out ok MayorTim. Mine looked like English roads. I'M IN AMERICA! What's weird is that they actually ignore that and drive like Americans. They cross the lines like they were the right way. Like yours. How do I get the turning lane (and the markings) on the right side of the road?

Maybe this little thing I'm about to say is a bit off-topic, but is there any way you could supply me with those traffic mods? I'd love to have them. I searched the STEX but I didn't find any, so if you please...

EDIT: Nevermind lol 5.gif I decided to give the NAM a try today, and discovered those files were in there, so I have them now. Thanks anyway 2.gif

p.s. I am just about to upload Aurora City CJ, so you might want to take a look 9.gif

I'm sorry to hear that you're ending Klondike Delta after 5 months mayortim. I must say that it's been one of the CJs that I've followed regularly, though not always commented in. 19.gif

That said, I am looking forward to Klondike Delta 2. Already, the region shot and the downtown looks very promising. Keep the update coming mayortim. 48.gif
