Hi all! Thanks a lot for visiting my CJ! This is my very first CJ... so excited that I can actually publish here on Simtropolis 2.gif I named my region Botania... for some reasons I like greens and tress! Well, before I begin, I would like to credit where my ideas of city-building come from...

1. Green Depra (my favourite CJ! 44.gif)

2. Kinata Region 16.gif

3. Edmonton 5.gif

I believe that pictures worth a thousand words, so now let's move on to the pictures 2.gif Featuring Candomile, one of the two cities in my region. I will try to update as long as I have the time 19.gif

That's all for the first post of my very first CJ 29.gif All sort of comments welcomed... a warm welcome to all of you to Botania 1.gif

P.S.: I created this account years ago and so I do not know how stupid can I be by putting my full name as the username... so please address me as Terry will do... thanks! 9.gif

Firstly, this looks like an interesting start to your CJ. The massive interchange looks very well designed as well.

Secondly, I'm glad I can inspire someone with my CJ.

It's random and kind of fun. I especially like the beach neighborhood, reminds me of many I've seen. 2.gif

looks great, i would suggest minimizing the user interface, it would make the pictures look alot better.  also turn the U-drive it off, that takes those little icons with the cars, and helicopters off the screen, other then that, looks great, love the beach, can't wait to see more!!

For your first CJ, and for any CJ actually, that first update looks splendid. I love how the small apartment buildings are woven into the low-density suburbs, and who couldn't like that interchange?

One suggestion I'll make is that you pick either the seasonal trees or the palm trees - if you're going for a tropical atmosphere, I'd leave the Maxis palms on your sidewalks (take out your treelined streets mod) and if you want the seasonal tree look, take the palms out and replace them with PEG's trees to make your already nice region look even more spectacular.

Keep up the great work, and I can't wait for some more updates!

Hi there everybody! Welcome to Botania's personal reply section40.gif31.gif

@magpieshooter: Well, I've visited your Kinana Region CJ for quite many times and found it a great inspiration for me to start a CJ! I always wanted to start a CJ, but due to time constraints and academic burdens I have to hold back my horses... but not anymore after visitng your CJ! Credits for City of Edmonton and Savannah Way because they also served as a source of inspiration to me 44.gif

@jacqulina: Thanks a lot 5.gif Hope I can continue this CJ well...

@Sisu, Fabiocb, Elbarto92: Well, the interchange took me some time to do it, but then making a custom intersection is simply too fun! 19.gif

@mayormommy, irishgrapes, superchad, SimBear80, pickled_pig: Thanks a lot for the compliment and thanks for dropping by 2.gif

@nycsc4: Thanks a lot for the suggestion 48.gif I wanted to minimise the user's inferface... but how? Any help appreciated 19.gif

@RadioheadFan: Hey dude, thanks a million for that suggestion... okay, removing the Forsted Streets Mod. Looks like my city looked much more tropical! Thanks again! 9.gif

P.S.: I will update this CJ over the weekend, as soon as possible 2.gif

And its really good to know that I could have been of inspiration to you, especially for such a nice start to a CJ. Thanks mate!

    Cheers, choco.

botania seems to be aptly named like a giant botanical garden.  that interchange looks a bit scary to me but I guess it could be nice for scenic drive.  keep it up and good luck.

Hi there everyone! Thanks a lot for all of your wonderful and precious comments and suggestions 44.gif Thanks a lot for your support2.gif I never imagined that I can get so many people reading 9.gif

Remember I introduced you my city Candomile in the first post? Well, actually I've been working on 2 cities. The other one is called Ancestralia. Sounds very wierd right? Haha, it actually means that the first city I've started builidng in the region. Ancestralia started off as a small rural town which relied mainly on agricultural activities... Now let's have the pictures do the talk 31.gif

    ancestraliabotaniamayorted13el.jpg

    ancestraliabotaniamayorted28bf.jpg

    ancestraliabotaniamayorted35nz.jpg

    ancestraliabotaniamayorted41oe.jpg

    ancestraliabotaniamayorted56du.jpg

Well, what you can see in the 4 pictures above is illustrating the Palm's Suburb's simplicity. When I started playing SC4 years ago, my city is totally griddy, and it doesn't look nice afterall. My tactic of creating random streets for neighbourhood - think about a crossword puzzle. Then start to drag roads all around the place, and tada, you've got a nice looking neighbourhood!

    ancestraliabotaniamayorted68jo.jpg

Ouchies, a road accident.6.gif No deaths are reported... *phew*

    ancestraliabotaniamayorted80ve.jpg

Ancestralia's agricultural sector. These farmlands are well irrigated with canals and laid out in a grid-like form to facilitate transport.

    ancestraliabotaniamayorted75ff.jpg

This is the high tech industry sector. Thanks a lot to the overflowing education fund, plenty of resources are deployed to education the youngs in Ancestralia. With more money invested in the Research & Development sector, it isn't hard to imagine that the high-tech sector appeared no long after the first industry revolution.

    ancestraliabotaniamayorted99wk.jpg

Welcome to Ancestralia's commercial sector! In the photo features Ancestralia's bustling commercial sector. It is located at the downtown area of the city.

    ancestraliabotaniamayortd108it.jpg

    ancestraliabotaniamayortd116qm.jpg

    ancestraliabotaniamayortd127mo.jpg

    ancestraliabotaniamayortd136tc.jpg

Featuring Ancestralia's prestigious high wealth residents.

    ancestraliabotaniamayortd146ts.jpg

The middle wealth residents. The back alley serves as an alternative route for garbage collectors and also a small parking at the end of it to cater to the demand of the middle wealth residents.

    ancestraliabotaniamayortd157ms.jpg

A trumpet interchage that connects Ancestralia's first high way to the beachside palm drive.

    ancestraliabotaniamayortd164rn.jpg

The second interchange that allows the commercial and industrail sector the access it.

    ancestraliabotaniamayortd175hx.jpg

Modernisation of the industrial sector - from agricultural to high-tech 48.gif

    ancestraliabotaniamayortd182xw.jpg

A palm tree in the middle of the round-a-bout.

Well, this is almost the end of this CJ's update... fret not, it is not the very end yet! Awaiting you below is the mosiac I've created... enjoy!

Absolutly brilliant update. Great work with the canals in the farmlands and the trumpet interchange, closeups and mossaic are awesome. I also have to say that Ancestralia isn't such a weird name... It's very close a name to Australia...

@chocolatemax285: Thanks a lot Chocolate Max 2.gif... you know, the idea of starting a really GREEN city came from Green Depra. I love trees and you motivated me to search for such lots on the STEX. Now I've got the n747 (correct my if I'm wrong) palm tree set, the PEG random trees and the Columbus Terrain Mod (CTM). Frankly speaking I downloaded CTM for the cotton woods to match with the Rural Highway, the method you used in your CJ too. And I learned to make a mosiac from your CJ too 9.gif

@soldyne: That's what this CJ will be talking about... trees and trees and tress! And more palm trees too!

@RadioheadFan: Yup removed the ADS forested street mod... now only palms are elft untouched. Really, my city looked more tropical! And thanks a lot for the cute little ducky. 40.gif

@sloppet: Thanks for dropping by... does my CJ title sounds very awkward? 42.gif

@magpieshooter: Thanks a lot for the compliment 5.gif I've learned to do the mosiac from choco 9.gif I am now waiting for buddybud to release the bridge truss for Jeronij's residental walls I make nice bridges that span across the highway 19.gif

    @jacqulina: Thanks a lot! You're really a friendly forumer 48.gif Thanks again!

@mailandre: Visited your CJ... I like your CJ a lot! I love your randomity in layout out your roads and streets. Haha I can't achieve that standard yet. My avenues and roads are still mainly straight... and I love the way how you space out residential lots! Looked a lot like a rural area 9.gif

    botaniamayortedheader23fb.jpg

Harlow everybody! Thanks again for all your support! Anyway, I've finally figured it out how to shoot a screenshot without the user-inerface by pressing Ctrl-Shirt-C. So no more annyoing stuff at the bottom-left from now onwards 9.gif

Another great update (or two, I missed the first one) Everything looks fantastic, but two things stand out in my mind - your bridge placement(both bridges fit extremely well into their surroundings, great picks) and the country club on the river (what can I say? extremely realistic and looks fantastic)

One suggestion I would make has to do with, once again, the tropical atmosphere. I'm pretty sure that you're using a water mod (the Maxis water isn't that dark) but I would switch to something else - that water, in the pictures you posted, looks like it was drawn on in MS Paint. Maybe something like PEG's Hawaiian Holiday?

    hawaiianholidaypic9px.jpg

Or Crystal Lagoon, also by PEG:

    crystallagoonpic0nh.jpg

Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work, you'll be sure to see me back here soon enough!

Hi everybody! Thanks a lot for your support, especially for Radiofan for his invaluable support 9.gif Well, I've downloaded the mode but I've installed it after I've taken the screenshots for this update. So sorry please bare with the MSpaint looking water 3.gif

    botaniamainmap043ty.jpg

Here is the region screenshot of Botania. Have a good look at it 48.gif

For today's upadte, we're going to refocus on Candomile. I've been playing it after I've completed filling up all blank tiles in Ancestralia 31.gif

    Construction Works

Candomile is now becoming a rapidly expanding city with more and more residents shifting in. This is proven to have an adverse effect on the efficiency of the transport system of the city and now let's see how the government handles it 31.gif

    candomilebotaniamayorted55uj.jpg

Citizen living at the East side of Candomile are complaining about daily traffic jams along the Candomile Ring Road that serves almost one quarter of the entire population 26.gif. It is a Ring Road, not a Ring Avenue, and so hope this explains the horrible traffic congestions Candomilians have to endure every morning and evenung.

    candomilebotaniamayorted68el.jpg
In order to make way for the new Candomile Ring Road which is being upgraded to an avenue, the Land Transport Authority of Candomile (LTAC) has to demolish the railway end loop despite the protests of the privatised railway line. Now we have more space to build the avenue-avenue intersection.

    candomilebotaniamayorted71yq.jpg

To avoid traffic pilling up on the other end of Botanic Boulevard, the LTAC has to speed up the construction of the new Candomile Ring Road. Above is the outcome of weeks of hardwork!

    candomilebotaniamayorted89xs.jpg

Rows of small apartments and houses have to me demolised to make way for the Candomile Ring Road.

    candomilebotaniamayorted98xh.jpg

Approached the end of the original Candomile Ring Road, the LTAC faces a new problem - whether to narrow the avenue to a road so that it fits the intersection built with the Botanic Boulevard or the make a new avenue-boulevard intersection. City voting shows that residents prefer a new intersection.

    candomilebotaniamayorted106qd.jpg

Partial demolision of the boulevard to make way for the interchange.

    candomilebotaniamayorted110nr.jpg

Finally the itnersection has been finally constructed. Two nre flyovers are cosntructed along the Botanic Boulevard to facilitate traffic that do not wish to turn into Candomile Ring Road.

    candomilebotaniamayorted127rq.jpg

Finally the city sees the LTAC finish the last touches on the ring road. Completion!!! 31.gif

    candomilebotaniamayorted137gx.jpg

The next construction project is the expansion of the Candomile railway system. Residents on the west side of the city complain that they do not have much access to the railway. They pastered the government to establish a bus system, but the government refuses to cut down the maintanence cost. The red zone indicates the place where the LTAC will construct the extended railway line.

    candomilebotaniamayorted144sl.jpg

Demolision takes place despite protests from local residents. Oh well some Candomilians are really ironic people. They are the people who suggested the construction of a new railway line and now they complain that their homes have to make way for it...

    candomilebotaniamayorted156be.jpg

    The completed railway line! 44.gif

End of the update... look out for more soon 5.gif

@Goin2Chicago: Hey dude thanks a lot for the compliment 9.gif

@RadioheadFan: Actually I didn't really went into detail to choose what bridge to place. I just choose the bridge design that suits the tropical theme. 4.gif This is really some unexpected outcome! Yup I've downloaded the new water textures... but sorry it isn't reflected in this update because I've completed it yesterday night *whooops* sorry to disappoint you. 6.gif

@Alkaola: Well, you can get it from the OneWay Railroad Crossing Mod by Swamper77. The section below is qutoed from the readme found at the download page... 49.gif

SWAMPER-PEG_NoRailDirt_MOD_205.dat is an optional file. It removes the dirt that appears under the railroad tracks. There is a side-effect to this mod. The dirt that appears under road networks in farming and landfill areas is also removed. The texture seems to be a shared image among the road networks and railroad tracks. PEG and I were working at the same time to create this mod, unaware that the other was also working on the same thing. In honor of my help, PEG put my name in the file name.

Hope this helps and thanks a lot for dropping by! 48.gif
