Your cities look great even if I don't like those tall palms.. I prefer smaller trees.. However I like a lot your residential areas especially the one in front of the beach.. Oh, are you a city planner?? Your construction scheme looks like the ones I do at university.. You know, I'm studying architecture and urbanism.. Good work!!

Bye

Great update, I like how you are showing the construction of the new arterial road, it reminds me of Anduin Valley Revisited. Also the update before that is well done.

Hi there! A warm welcome to PAGE TWO!!!!! Well, I'm glad that this CJ is progressing quite well. Sorry but you'll have to wait a little while for a new update to come out. This is because now the region is facing a seiours problem whereby many R$$ and R$$$ houses are getting abandoned although I have enough (excess I think 30.gif) jobs for them. Anyway, I'm now creating a balancing city called Slumberland. Well, as from the name it isn't hard to guess that the city will be msotly filled with R$ residents... after building it, the abandonment trend stops! And now progressing as normal again... 9.gif

@Alkaola: You're welcome! Have that suggestion solved your problem? Well I hope it did 9.gif Anyway, thanks a lot for dropping by!

@jackel.22: Thanks a lot for the complement. Well, Botania is supposed to be a green city, so I've tried my best to make it as green as possible 48.gif

@mailandre: Well I'm still a college student and I've never studied about architecture and urbanism... hmmm what makes my city looked like the ones you did at university? Thanks for your support, Andre! 43.gif

@magpieshooter: That was jsut for eye candy anyway... you see, a CJ will be horribly boring if you have nothing but a city to show. So I've taught of doing a construction work update that might intereset my readers 4.gif

Thanks for all your support guys! An update will be published as soon as possible 2.gif Stay tuned...

Sorry guys! Sorry for this long overdue update. Ah college liefe has been super hectic, so please forgive me if sometimes this CJ is elft un-updated for a few days.

Thanks to the balancing city Slumberland, the abandonment of R$$ and R$$$ buildings have stopped. And as the region progressively grows into a larger one, it seems that there is an urgent need to dedicate a city for toursim and high standard living purposes. And ta-da 31.gif we've got The Atoll. Unlike other maps that I've played, The Atoll is a relatively large map (the largest city area possible in SC4 RH) but it has little land mass as it is, the ATOLL. It compirses of a few small little islands directly off the coast of Ancestralia and Candomile, and all of them are equally accessible by ferry. A normal transport time from the mainland to The Atoll is appoximately 30 minutes under normal sea conditions with waves height less or equals to 1m. 1.gif

As the city is not yet fully completed, we'll have some sneak peeks of The Atoll first. As sneak peeks are relatively smaller updates *good news!* I can update it at a mroe frequent basis 9.gif

    theatollbotaniamayorted14yw.jpg

This is called the Arrival Island of The Atoll. This is because it is the island where the MAIN ferry terminal is located, providing the population of The Atoll access to the mainland and also opening the gate for the huge influx of tropical-hungry tourists 10.gif

    theatollbotaniamayorted39qh.jpg

Photo taken on the Arrival Island. A bustling little island where Medium Density houses are constructed since reisdents prefers to live near to the ferry terminal.

    theatollbotaniamayorted27hs.jpg

This photo is taken on the Huanalo Island, the island nearest to the Arrival Island and accessible by a bridge that is constructed between the two island. The island is inhabited mostly by R$$$ citizens because they are the ones who can afford to buy a landed property in The Atoll despite the high prices of land since land is VERY scarce.

Hope you've enjoyed this sneak peek! Updates will be posted as soon as possible!!! 44.gif

nice update, it looks like a paradisiac place, but I saw it has a train system as well as a metro system , are there the need for them both, as the area is sparsely populated, and mostly with low density developments.

    Keep on the good work.

@ Bluesence : Well, I hope that I can really help you out. Actually I faced some problems with development too, that' why I created a city called Slumberland, with the word SLUM hidden in it. It is mostly inhabited by R$ residents and havs road connections to neighbouring cities with jobs. This will help to balance your RCI demand while you can keep lots of R$$ and R$$$ in a city without having them fleeing and abandoned.

@ jacqulina : Thanks again Jacqualina! Well, I really do hope that my CJ can stay up for some time despite my busy schedule... I can't bear to see it being abandoned after filling just 2 pages 9.gif so don't worry! I will try my best to update this CJ as long as I have the time (and also the computer co-operates) 2.gif

@ sloppet : Thanks for dropping by 48.gif

@ ElBarto92 : Thanks a lot!!! Thanks for the compliment! Well, I decided not to use highways in my CJ (unless really necessary) because it looks too metropolitan and urban. My CJ is sort of a suburban and green themed jounral, you see 4.gif

@ Fabiocb : I think that custom interchanges actually looks better if you know how to build them and manipulate them. What you need is think of a simple interchange first, like a trumpet, and then start to draw roads from it. Creativity comes into play then. 31.gif And the important thing is just to ensure that vehicles can access all roadways of different directions. For the train and metro system, I will answer that in the next update of The Atoll... *promise, ok?* 9.gif Thanks for following my CJ!

@ nineoclock : Million thanks for reading and dropping by! 44.gif

@ GMT : Laying down the beaches are the most challenging one because you not only need them to suit your terrain but also your trees and buildings 31.gif The reason why I palced beaches because the Atoll is meant to be a tropical paradise with lots of white sand beaches 3.gif

@ olly : Ah, actually the suburbs appear so different is because I lay the streets randomly, like a crossword puzzle 19.gif so what you need to do after building randon streets is zoning and placing waterpipes and parks and some necessary civic buildings... that's all? Sounds easy 4.gif

Well I am quite taken aback...This CJ has potnetial to be awesome. Therefore you will get my support all the way...I love the suburb tropical feel of your cities...But the mix of different type architecture doesn't absolute what kind of city you have...For me it doesn't fall into any catergory... 3.gif

    Well Done...44.gif...And Keep it up...2.gif

    EDIT
(Psst...I saw some SimGoober Canals going through some farms...They looked dogy...So I rembered that SimGoober had made some special Canals to fit in the surrondings of farms... They are called Irrigation Canals)....
    And Heres the link...

    Very nice CJ terry!

I like the way you describe the road works. Great to read them.
I did not mind those SG Canals. I use the irrigation lots and these canals are a refreshing change.

One thing I do not like is all the bridges between the various isles. I would reccommend to use only ferries. It makes the natural habitat much nice.

    keeo up the good work.

I can say that it was the beautiful title that attracted me, 'cause I have a pretty slow connection, and I restrict my CJ-searching to titles I like, or like the sound of.  But now that I have found this gem (an emerald, it's green) I will follow this closely. 29.gif9.gif

Hi there everybody! Thanks for following this CJ! Special thanks to CDI_Spy and a million thanks to everybody else for following 44.gif you guys are just awesome! You all gave me suggestions and from them I've managed to improve my city by a lot! Thanks!

Oh, and before I begin my fifth update, I will not break the promise I made to Fabiocb. Well, the reason why I used mass transt for The Atoll because it serves as a shuttle service from Marina Cove, Casablanca and Huanalolo Island to Arrival Island. The reason is pretty simple - the 3 islands are not only the largest 3 but also the top 3 most populated islands among the others in The Atoll. In order not to over burden the Pan Atoll Expressway, the Land Transport Authority of The Atoll (LaTATA 9.gif *funny name isn't it?*) decided to pull a railway line through Huanalolo Island, building a T-intersection at the tip of Huanalolo Island which connects to Casablanca and Marina Cove via railway bridge. The 2 railway terminus are at Casablanca and Marina Cove.

However, LaTATA met a botthe-neck problem shortly after venturing into Casablanca. Due to the obstruction of apartments and the limited land mass, the LaTATA has no choice but to cut into the middle of the Pan Atoll Expressway (PAE). Environmentalists argue with LaTATA that the middle portion of PAE is reserved for decorative purposes, i.e. planting of Palm Trees and grass patches.

    ans14sx.jpg

Left with no choice, the LaTATA decided to build a subterranean railway system (Subway) from the railway terminus at Casablanca. The railway and subway terminus is then renamed as Casablanca Interchange. Hope this explains all 19.gif

Okay, let's move on to the 5th update!!! Wheeee~ 17.gif

    theatollbotaniamainmap22sa.jpg

I will start a detail description about The Atoll and its islands. We'll start from Arrival Island and move in a clockwise motion 2.gif

    Arrival Island
The arrival island is located at the outwards most edge amongst all the islands in The Atoll. It serves as a main harbour as all visitors and commuters from other cities arrives at The Atoll here. For security reasons, the Land Tranport Authority of The Atoll (LaTATA) only allows the harbour in Arrival Island to serve ferries from other cities. All other harbours in The Atoll are only allowed to serve inter-Atoll ferries.

It is also where the Pan Atoll Expressway (PAE) started. From an avenue, it is converted to two bi-directions one way road placed parallel to each other with an empty space in between for decorative purposes at the end of the Arrival Island. From there onwards, it is extended to other island via bridges across the bay area.

    Huanalolo Island (a.k.a. Main Island)
    huanaloloislandmayorted3ct.jpg

Huanalolo Island is also called the Main Island because it is the most densely populated and also the largest island of all in The Atoll. Running through it we have the PAE and the PARS (Pan Atoll Railway System). They are the busier throughfares in The Atoll because they connect other islands to the main ferry terminal in The Atoll, the one and only ferry terminal that allows access to other cities.

The PAE also has a T intersection on Huanalolo Island so that it can connect Casablanca and Marina Cove together. See map above for more details 31.gif

    Casablanca
    casablancamayorted2nn.jpg

Casablanca is the only island with a subway system as the LaTATA has simply NO WAY to cut through the narrow bottle neck island. Of course, the construction of the subway system costs some big bucks but the residents are happy that the LaTATA is also environmentally conscious - they rather pay more to avoid cutting down trees, although felling trees are easier and cheaper compared to building a subway.

At the end of Casablanca there are 1 3X2 and 3 4X4 dense residential lots that are reserved for developers to build classy and posh condos. However due to low demand for high wealth buildings the project is forced to a grinding halt and in replacement low density is zoned. There is also a seaside food restaurant chain at the tip of Casablanca which attracted many visitors and locals to try out their fresh seafood delicacies! 44.gif

The PAE ends at Casablanca. It is connected to the fishing village and a ferry terminal to allow maximum access of residents to other parts of The Atoll and people from other islands in The Atoll to Casablanca.

    Resort Island (a.k.a. Getaway Island)
    theatollbotaniamayorted108wk.jpg

Resort Island is once an isolated island used to contain the most dangerous criminals in the SimNation. Due to massive protests and riots a few years ago (not featured in CJ) the government demolished the jail and coverted the small island into a green resort island with lush greenry and beautiful beaches. The small island attached to it is a manmade island. It is built because LaTATA intended to build a ferry terminal for easy access but then it has to avoid damaging the delicate shoreline.

    Coconut Island
    coconutislandmayorted1jq.jpg

Coconut Island is not featured in this CJ yet. So let me talk more about it. Hmmm, can you guess where it gets its name from? From its shape! It shaped like a coconut floating in the turquoise sea water of Botania, and so it is named the Coconut Island. It houses little residents but lots of greenery. A excellent getaway place if you can't afford the expesive prices of Resort Island but want to enjoy the nature 9.gif It is also the terminus of PAE, which ends with a U turn44.gif

    Marina Curve (a.k.a. Banana Island)
    marinacurvemayorted1fl.jpg

Marina Curve got its name from the distinct curvature of the landmass. So that's why it is also known as Banana Island! 40.gif Haha. Anyway, it houses some beautiful apartments and low density residential buildings.

Due to the limit of land spaces at the right tip of Marina Curve, no buildings are built. What we have in replace is the lush greenry! Cheers for the trees which help a lot in purifying the air of The Atoll.

    theatollbotaniamayorted233vm.jpg
    Trees along the PAE.

    theatollbotaniamayorted185al.jpg
Apartment buildings along the PAE on Marina Curve. Quiet and calm neighbourhood 4.gif

    Marina Cove (a.k.a. The Cove)
    marinacovemayorted9ze.jpg

Marina Cove got its unique name from the shape of the island. There is an enclosed bay area and it is protected by the landmasses all year long from the strong waves of the sea during monsoon seasons. That's why Marina Cove is extremely popular of its beaches because of the clear waters of the bay and the cleaniness of the area. In order to attract more customers and visitors, the Shoreline Organisation of The Atoll (SOTA) set up volunteer programmes whereby local residents participate in to clean up the beaches every day.

    Las Senorita Island
    lassenoritaislandmayorted1bb.jpg

Las Senorita Island got its name because it was once the selected venue for Miss Botania Competition a few years back. Coincidentally more than 75% of the Las Senorita Island population are females! This island hence became the island with the highest femaleto male ration. On the other hand, according to a population census of Botania, 55% of the population is female. Is this because of Las Senorita Island? Nobody knows 42.gif

    Mount Atoll
    mountatollmayorted5xe.jpg

Mount Atoll is actually the name of the hill located on the island. To facilitate the naming of islands, the naming team of The Atoll decided to name this island Mount Atoll too! It is currently the highest point in The Atoll, where you can get a breahtaking view of the entire bay area! Viewing south, you can see Arrival Island and the southern part of Huanalolo Island. Seeing West you can get a nice view of the Marina Cove popular bay area, Marina Curve, Coconut Island, Casablanca, northern part of Huanalolo Island and also the Resort Island! Viewing East makes you see the shoreline of Ancestralia and Candomile. And you might even catch a glimpse of the sohpisicated Candomile Interchange from there! This makes an evening walk to the top of Mount Atoll very very rewarding indeed! If you're not sure with the directions you can refer to the map here:

A small little fishing village that provides jobs to reisdents of Mount Atoll. This fishing village, although small, contributes a lot to the fishing industry in The Atoll. It also ships fresh seafood from Mount Atoll to Casablanca that is famous of it delicious seafood.

I think that's all for the 5th update! Hope you've enjoyed reading! 48.gif See ya!

@Mr Piggy: Hey thanks for your compliment and suggestion! I'll try to stick to two or less architecture. Well, I love the farms and the canals because I'm not getting too rural for this CJ nor too urban. Botania is somewhere in between. 31.gif

@Nik-nik: Hi there! Thanks a lot for your support! Well, I've actually tried to use all ferries will do but then residential lots start to abandon. I have no choice but to build bridges. Anway I think the bridges are ok. Luckily they didn't stand out too much. 19.gif

@magpieshooter: Thanks for dropping by and constantly returning to check this CJ out! Thanks a lot for your support! 48.gif

@CDI_spy: Thanks again! I am very glad that you enjoyed reading the updates. Sorry that this CJ isn't very dialup friendly. I'll try to shrink the file size of the image posted from now on, ok? Cheers~3.gif

Hi all!!! After some real world hold backs and virus attack (yup I nearly got my entire harddisk changed! Luckily I had a back up copy and almost nothing is lost except for a half-done poor economics research paper). I'll be showing you Pleasant Hill in this update! If you want to have a tropical island taste (specifically Hawaiian), you can go to update #5 which is just above 31.gif

In case you've forogt where Pleasant Hill should be, you can simply refer to the map below 41.gif

    botaniamainmap043ty.jpg

Well, Pleasant Hill is a suburb further away from the coastline as compared to Candomile and Ancestralia. It is a suburb whereby people live and a city with little jobs. Most of the population work in either Slumberland (not yet featured in this CJ) or Ancestralia, although there are some job available in the city itself.

The city started off by contructing an underwater tunnel beneath Pleasant Stream. According to historical accounts, the river you can see below was once a stream but after many years to erosion the power of water widened the stream. However, Pleasant Stream managed to retain its old classic name 9.gif

    pleasanthillbotaniamt16nh.jpg

    Construction of the underwater tunnel.

    pleasanthillbotaniamt20uu.jpg

Completed underwater tunnel with vegetation as decoration! What I've used to add touch to the entrance is Jeronij's Residential Walls. 31.gif Thanks to Jeronij for creating such nice walls!

    pleasanthillbotaniamt33jq.jpg

This is Pleasant Hill after ages of zoning and system layout but the game play hasn't really started. I need to finish at least one quarter of the map before I let the game run 5.gif So this is the sneak peek of the future commercial area. I predict that this area will be very congested in the future so I've added another avenue just in case.

    pleasanthillbotaniamt48ci.jpg

Here is the developing downtown area. Not really fully developed since I let the simulation run for merely a year at the time when the screenshot is taken. Hmmm, I hope that the balancing city Slumberland cna reduce the R$ demand for this city so that I can build more R$$ and R$$$ here without losing the equilibrum 1.gif

Due to time constraints that's all of this update... sorry! I will make a massive update like update #5 over the weekend... so let's wait for the weekend to come!!! 19.gif

Thanks for following this CJ! 9.gif
