  1. slow performance after 10.4.3

Date: 11/8/2005 10:44:27 AM Author: zelgadis Oakenshield, Is that feature only for the G5's? I checked the energy saver on my G4 and it doesn't appear. I know that OSX scans your system and installs the appropriate software, but one would think that would be a feature for all computers. ISF quote> Doesn't appear to be.... I've a 1.2 G4 iBook, and it's enabled. It's under the Options tab in Energy Saver. It doesn't appear on my 867 G4, though. Stretching memory here - G4 in the 867 is a rather standard 7445 G4 - high cache, high consumption desktop model. The iBook sports the 7457 G4 - reduced cache, reduced power consumption. Thus, (focusing crystal ball), I'm guessing you've a G4 tower, and you're not seeing it since it
  2. slow performance after 10.4.3

Stupid question, but I have to ask - you guys with the G5's - you have your processor set to highest in System Prefs? Energy Saver to be more exact. Buddy o' mine noticed lackluster performance and video artifacts in iMovie. He checked the setting, and it was set to Automatic. He changed it to Highest, and although it made the beast louder with all the clamor from the fans, it seemed to help some.
  3. Apple introduces 10Ghz G5

Well, sort of. Yours for a mere $17,823:
  4. Will New Orleans survive Katrina ?

Date: 8/29/2005 2:00:21 PM Author: Joesocwork I'd like to think that the rest of America will do like we've done in the past for other disasters and contribute time, effort, and especially money for relief efforts. There obviously is some exceptions, but disasters very much often bring out the best in us.
  5. Will New Orleans survive Katrina ?

Date: 8/29/2005 3:16:19 AM Author: jmusshorn Date: 8/29/2005 2:45:35 AM Author: marryescher I sure hope those oil wells off shore nearby make it. Gas prices are high enough already.quote> I CERTAINLY second that. It costs $3.19USD per gallon for regular here, it doesn't need to get any higher. ~Jamie~quote> Get used to it. After all, the oil industry has to protect their record profits. Can't just stop making more money now, can they? In the meantime, the Superdome has had several more holes torn in it, flood waters in greater New Orleans are rising at a foot (.3 meter) an hour. Tens of thousands will be homeless for a long time to come, many will likely lose their lives, incalculable damage will be done to the environment, and billions upon billions will be spent in relief efforts. The rest of America will mutter a condolence under their breath, hop into their 7mpg Cadillac Escalade for a trip to the soccer field, and forget all about it until CNN, Fox, or M$NBC force-feeds them another serving of plastic concern. At least the folks at Halliburton will be okay.
  6. Why did you join SimTropolis?

I was at home, having taken a week off to tend to a new and sickly kitten. Seriously. While she was sleeping, I was bored, ran a Google search for SimCity Mods, and voila! Months later, Dirk appeared at my door clad in black leotards and smelling of Nutri-Grain bars. As I remember, he was carrying an ancient-looking scroll in one hand, and a menacing claw hammer in the other. The hammer was yellow, and had duct tape wrapped around the handle. He said the duct tape was to keep the essence of my Devout Hammer of Fishpacking from leaking into the Ether. He dropped the hammer on my toe, slapped me once on each eyebrow, demanded my everlasting and strangely one-sided devotion to the Megalith that will eventually become The Eater Of Planets, and gave me Moderator powers. The rest is history.
  7. Infamous names

Meh. It looks like a forum game, it reads like a forum game, ....it must be a Forum Game. Moving to the appropriate forum.
  8. The Simtropolis Closet

Date: 7/13/2005 9:23:56 AM Author: ATPjohn Well, I think its important to stay open and unoffended. Yes, I too would be quite flattered if a girl hit on me. Mind ye, it happens a lot for some reason For a laugh I wouldn't say no to sticking my tongue down her throat, but it definitely wouldn't mean anything. But then I can be quite slutty like that quote> The inverse always seems to happen to me. I'm straight, but for some reason, I've been hit on numerous times by gay men. Maybe it's the junk I have in my trunk. Whatever the case, I'm no less flattered when it happens - someone finds me attractive, and that's a Good Thing; man, woman...or anything in between.
  9. BSC Mac Archive

It's about time this beastie got pinned. Enjoy.
  10. Ready for SimCity on your Intel Mac?

Date: 6/7/2005 10:40:11 AM Author: Wraith101 I hate to point out that Sim City 4 will not run on these new systems unless another port is done! These chips wont be in computers till 2007. Mac OSX does in fact run on Intel Chips, Mac has had a bunch of P4's running OSX for years. They just havn't (and won't) release it commercially. Just putting an intel processor in a mac does not make it the same as a PC, the rest of the archetecture will still be different. The only major change is that intel processors are faster so macs can keep up with the PC's. The current chips they are using has reached a bottleneck, they need to much cooling and power to be usable by laptops and so must be changed. The current best mac processor cannot be used in a laptop so imagine what would happen in two years time!quote> 1. Correct. Which will be a lot easier for development houses. They no longer have to develop API's for a different processor - all they have to do is engineer their calls for the Mac OS. Easy enough, since the libraries will have originally been built for the same architecture. 2. 2006, actually. Starting with the Mac Mini. 3. Correct and Incorrect. It has been developed in secret for the past 5 years. Though, it is already released publicly - one can purchase a $999 whitebox (with Intel 3.6 GHz Processor) running OS 10.4.1 and a development kit for $999. No use for it yet, unless you're a software developer, but still - semantics. 4. Correct in theory, but architecture isn
  11. Ready for SimCity on your Intel Mac?

Another good writeup over at Wired. The Day After, most of what has transpired has been met with a collective yawn. No one seems to give much of a rip, Apple Fanbois included. While there are a couple doomsayers out there (see above), most analysts, developers and customers don't really seem to mind...so far, at least. All they care about is raw functionality and a safe, secure OS. Which will never change. In a year where Mac sales have skyrocketed 45%, and Apple is rolling in more success (i.e. profit) than virtually any time before, it would appear they haven't created much concern at all - even among fickle stock owners. Good Times. EDIT: More commentary over here ...and here.
  12. In case you hadn't heard. Official press release here. More info here ... here .... and here. What does this mean? If you know the end outcome, you'd better clue the rest of the world in. No one can be sure at this point. It most certainly does not mean OS X on Dell. OS X will not be licensed for anyone else to use. It will remain that which makes Apple different. It may mean Windows on the Mac, but Apple has stated they will not support this, and besides....why? What it almost certainly will do, is make cross-platform porting a heck of a lot easier. Picture: a lot editor (for example) for Mac. All of those add-ons and extensions of currently ported games that aren't available for the Mac. Increased frame rates....no more bandwidth bottleneck...and the same secure, virus-immune (so far) operating system. Could this be a Good Thing for gaming on the Mac?
  13. What do you have for breakfast?

    Coffee and cigarettes. Mmmmm...crunchy.
