Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 out! (But not worth getting)

Internet Explorer 7 beta 2 was released to the public recently, and I decided to try it out for myself. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed.

While it is definately an improvement over IE 6, FireFox 1.5 is still, in almost every catagory, better.

Internet Explorer 7

It is a beta, so I will be gently, however there are a number of things I really hate about IE 7.

First off, web pages look terrible. I am not sure if this is due to some sort of text smoother, or if it is just a flaw, but I noticed that websites, graphics in particular, appeared dull and grainy. The above is an unresized image of the simtrop homepage on IE7.

Also, as far as speed goes, FF 1.5 still runs circles around it. I noticed only minor speed improvements over IE6.

Security, for now, has also been bumped up, but once the actual IE7 is released expect hackers to find ways around the new security in a matter of months.

Finally, and this might not apply to everyone, but for other window blinds users, IE7 is not compatible with any of my skins (not sure if it there are problems with any other skins, though). I had to disable my WindoBlinds 4.6 from skinning IE7 to get it to display correctly.

All in all, I am throughly disappointed in this beta release. The only advantage I can see it that you can use rich text, but thats about it.

Also, just for comparison, here is Firefox 1.5 compaired to IE7:

EDIT: I appologize for not getting any recent reply's in my Firefox picture, I guess I took the picture at the wrong moment 34.gif. You can still compair the banner and sidebar text though.

Looks horrible...Firefox is so much better...Anyone who hasn't tried Firefox, try it for one week straight, and I can almost guarantee you won't want to turn back...

I beg to differ... I am an IE6 user, tried Firefox for about a month and went back to IE6... 29.gif

I said almost! 3.gif I am sure not everyone will love it...but most will...did you exclusively use Firefox...? If not, than it isn't the same...use tabs too if you try it out...

And duke, have you ever tried FF...? If not, you need to...

I had some problems with Firefox, but it was alot faster than IE6.

I'm really ticked about the fact that Microsoft, and even other companies (such as EA) seem to think the American public is frankly stupid, and they design these ugly programs with giant buttons, like we're blind, and everything is user friendly. I find that a little insulting. But, I'm just the kind of guy who likes to press little buttons. IE6, though it may be slow, will continue to be my web browser.

Unfotrunately TFG, 90% of america is stupid when it comes to this. 3.gif

No link (too lazy) but search the MS website for it and you should find it... however...

!!!IT HAS CAUSED PROBLEMS ON MY COMPUTER!!!

For that reason alone I do not reccommend getting it to anyone, since it apparently overwrites IE6, and has caused several recent problems despite a system restore.

I will definately be able to fix said problems, as they are mostly minor, but just to throw the warning out there - when they say beta, them mean BETA.

    DO NOT DOWNLOAD! 28.gif

Usually you only get problems with your computer when using Ie if you are on a sight thats for adults only if you get my drift or on a piracy site or some other cheap site with java controls, If you dont do any of those sights then you should have 0 problems with Ie

I've been using Firefox since early in the beta phase, and I can never switch back to IE. I remember reading that IE7 and Vista combined had over 20,000 unresolved bugs at one point.

I have tried firefox and it's still on my computer. If something isn't showing right in IE, I pop open firefox to see if it's any better, and sometimes it is.

But I prefer IE for several reasons:

-the cache is much more easily accessable and browsable for the purposes of saving files off the internet that you otherwise couldn't (which I do a lot, so this is by far the biggest reason for me)
-I'm used to IE and it works fine for my purposes, so changing is unnecessary
-tabbed browsing is a feature I would never use. In the occasion that I want to be able to tab back and forth between two pages, it's much simpler to just have two windows open.
-the whole security issue doesn't bother me. I am running Norton Internet Security, which automatically updates, and as such I already have my protection against hacking and whatnot.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.
If you can read this, you deserve a cookie.

I prefer Firefox for several reasons..

My local forecast is in the top right and updates every 10 minutes

I can control Winamp (or any other media player, really) with it

There is a clock that displays time for every time zone on the planet, so I know what time it is. I'm not up past my bed time, it's only quater after 3 in Japan, lets have some teaaaaa!

I can make the book marks in the book mark bar just images, so I can fit about 50 of them on there (with the minifox theme)

The scrapbook is the most usefull thing ever

And I can use IE within firefox, so nyeh nyeh boo boo.33.gif

The only downside is it's using about 30% of my RAM at the moment.44.gif

I only use IE if Im in msn or something and clicking the hotmail or beta invites thing sends me to it.

I prefer firefox...funny...both me and my sister have swiched for a few reasons...

1.Easier to manage bookmarks(I'll show a picture of what I do with them...I'm really tidy with my bookmarks and even made a second for my sister48.gif)

2.Faster then IE(when we swiched from DSL to Cable when loading pages you actully couldn't tell that we swiched except for the fact that downloads were faster....but with firefox there was a major noticable speed differnce)

3.no Stupid comes with software free! toolbars!(when we got DSL yahoo! stuck a big ol' toolbar that when you removed it the other bars would skrew up to be unusable...while in firefox it didn't do that....and if it did do that I'd simply remove it 3.gif)

4.Much more Customizeable.(I have tweaked firefox with more little gadgets then the computer itself!I have my bookmarks, weather, mail(yahoo and gmail),differnt time zones,IE in firefox tab swich thingy, and the good web accelerator...while I couldn't get IE to accept the web accelerator 18.gif)

5.Safer and more Secure.(I've got No script, the firefox pop up blocker, and one other one and it does the job perfectly...so problems there....while I can go to the same site in IE and discover there was a virus problem with the site)

And the main reason why I swiched!

6.I don't have to Scroll down the 1000+ faovrites and 100+ folders that my mum has Acuminilated in 3-4 years!(my favorites were at the bottom...and then they were in the middle again and I lost them...my sister had the same issue...my mom would bookmark something but not bother to orgonize it so it'd be lost forever...I can organize firefox's bookmarks and mom wont kil me for cleaning it(I'm tidy on a Pc but not in real life....go figure)

this is how tidy I am with my bookmarks

I can sum up my thoughts of IE 7 Beta 2 in this sentence

    Stupid Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage!

Oh well, I guess I have to just buy an (legal) upgrade copy of Windows Vista Home when it comes out. That is if it will let me upgrade from an illegal windows xp!9.gif

@Rymac: And this is nothing compared to the 1,500 I had before my HDD crashed. 2.gif I'm no where near finished repopulating that thing. I also have quick access to most bookmarks with my bookmarks toolbar. 48.gif

Yup. about:mozilla. In MSIE before sp2, it made a blue screen like page, in firefox/mozilla/netscape/camino it has quotes from a non-existant book of Mozilla, similar in writing style to the Bible/Quran.

I have managed to fix most of the Porblems IE7 caused, with 1 remaining - for some reason it deleted some of the files necissary for Mcafee Antivirus to run. 47.gif

The IE is now not only a security threat/virus magnet, but is also programmed to destroy antivirus programs! 18.gif

And yeah, Safari Pwns.... too bad it's not for windows...

    LINK

It took just 15 minutes to find the first bug with IE7.

    The future looks bright.

I did'nt try out ie 7 yet but it will most likely suck. I only use ie for windows update and that is it. I visited a few web pages then I decided to do a spyware scan,I got like 9 spyware items, compared to firefox which I get 0 or up to 2.
