Backup your plugins folder.

Now I'm stuck redownloading 1 gig of BAT's because I did not 16.gif

...and I have a nice Matrox external backup drive, which makes it even more silly that I did not 1.gif

Good warning to everybody.  Saving and backing up are essential to life on a computer because one day it will happen to all of us.  No one is exempt. 10.gif

You bet and You're right!7.gif

I have been saying all kinds of words to myself (mostly non-catholic) ever since my hard-drive C/: went down ( I have the game itself on D/: drive).
I can't continue my CJ Nexis of Genesis because of this for the moment, because the game crashes on me, too many files missing. I have to find them all and geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez, that's is timetaking and NOT fun anymore.

Do yourself a favour, just in case, make a back-up or save on another hard-drive.29.gif

Everytime I release my pic folder on a city a copy of my CJ goes there, too! And every three months a plugin backup ... 10.gif

I had my Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH experience before I bought RH when a malworking RAM module destroyed any kind of data whil saving including my first SC4 regions 34.gif(allthough I don't know today if this is a pity or a kind of mercy ...[30.gif)

There had been too much great CJs ended because of harddisk problems.... 15.gif

Yeah, I found this out the hard way, back in September 2004, when my computer had to be refrmatted due to a virus, or somethging. Luckily, due to some software, I was able to get my stuff back!

I lost it before, had over a GB of plugins in there! Though I think it was for the best, cause I redownloaded everything again and this tme created sub folders so it's a lot easier moving around my plugin folder 48.gif

Which reminds me, off to back that up 33.gif1.gif

Yep, I've lost a whole bunch of stuff myself when my hard drive burned out before christmas.

Its such a common occurance, you'd have thought we'd all back up as habit by now, but to prove a point..I haven't backed up once since the burn out I suffered.

Shame on me.

I've seen 8 Cj's been killed by hard drive problems...After that Hard drive Failure scare I've been trying to save up to by a 40Gb hard drive for my Pc to back up my files...I mean I would backup my files now if I could....but since I have the largest hard drive in the house...it kinda makes it hard to back up.

Well I still have all my downloads on another drive. So if I did something (or was stupid enough to download a virus) I guess I have to go back and click a bunch of auto-installers and re-extract everything. Still, better than re-downloading.

when i download the plugins i want, i put them in a partition on my hard drive that i don't use so that all that is visible on the partition is sc4 plugins & mods. i categorize them into folders of type (commerce, civic, residential, industry, etc) and then sub folder them for large areas  (commerce has service and office, transport has each type [road, rail, mono, etc]).

this way, when i have to reinstall everything on my computer, unless i wipe my documents from the C drive (like last week), i don't lose anything. it means i have a stress free environment when i need to reinstall windows.

i have about a gig's worth of plugins downloaded (mainly from here), which amounts to about 1.5gig unzipped. one of the advantages of having over 500gb of HDD space!

I really never have problems with dissapearing plugins due to a computer crash etc... but it is always a good thing to do when you are just about to work on a huge city and you have many MB or even GB worth of bats you are about to use. 10.gif
