hello - i hope Wolf and company see this message because this is quite the experience.

After following your advice a short while back via Reddit which was supposed to be a solution to an issue at the time (How do i bypass these crashing issues with the GOG galaxy version of SC4). I followed said advice of yours (i.e. download the full game and use that outside of GOG galaxy). That ran perfectly fine. Before playing the game, I also followed your advice of resetting it and deleting all the old files. Okay, fine. No issue running the offline download of the full game.

I proceed further, before starting my first new city, to use the sc4pac mod manager to get all of the current plugins, packages, NAM and CAM as of the date of this post. I followed the instructions for NAM (including patching the 4gb patch to the SimCity 4 application file in the folders (maxis, GOG galaxy). I should be good to go, right? Wrong! i am now faced with new, interesting issues. the first is the prompt that i added to my most recent reddit post, another is that every game running instance is windowed titled 'Sc4fix v7'. Even when running the sc4pac mod manager to uninstall the sc4fix plugins i think are the issue, it still runs in a window and it crashes each time. IMG_1304.jpg.22a6c9187937798e00f29dc0e599f3d2.jpg

If you have read the descriptions of the Mod DLLs, you will know that many mods you have to configure yourself according to your needs and the specifications of your computer. This can also be seen in the tutorial I made.

Another problem you did not corectually install the Mod DLLs, and we come back to the problem that you did not read the description of the Mod DLLs.

In addition, the Mod DLLs need Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 x86 Redistribute to make them work

Next time I suggest you read the mod description to avoid these problems

Another problem you did not corectually install the Mod DLLs, and we come back to the problem that you did not read the description of the Mod DLLs. - how does a user do that using sc4pac, an app that is provided to us by developers such as yourself?

In addition, the Mod DLLs need Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 x86 Redistribute to make them work - does that come automatically with the OS or no? I only see options to repair it.

Next time I suggest you read the mod description to avoid these problems

If you installed CAM in a region and then removed CAM then you have to delete that region because you broke the SC4 simulation in that region.

Also CAM contains some props and textures so if you have placed CAM lots then the behavior you see is normal because it does not find the required dependencies.

hey Wolf, see my responses next to yours above :)

So i did what Wolf has advised and I have installed the offline SC4 game file that is available with my GOG Galaxy purchase. It's an attempt to bypass possibility of the game crashing that i was experiencing with the GOG Galaxy SC4 game file. Well I went the route, got all the plugins possible via the sc4pac mod manager. Everything is fresh; the files, the regions are blank, i am starting my first city. When iclick the big arrow to load the city, the game crashes.

Any paths and know-how to avoid the game crashing would be very helpful, please. I want to get back into SC4 and have the same experience y'all have.

This is a brand new, custom built PC running Windows 11 OS. Thank You

This is totally normal, it does this so you, the player, can easily see that the DLL is working. Probably not the cause of your crashes, but you probably also don’t want to uninstall this fix in any case.

CTDs trying to start a city where you can get to region-view fine are 99.9% of the time down to failing to correctly apply the 4GB patch. For example you casually mention Maxis and GoG Galaxy folders, but why would the offline install of SC4 use GoG Galaxy unless YOU changed the defaults for some reason? So are you really sure you properly uninstalled your previous copy of SC4? Is it possible there is another install folder where SC4 resides but hasn’t been patched. Manually check your shortcut for running SC4, where does it point to? Note too Windows permissions does screwy things, to guarantee success you may need to move the SimCity4.exe file to a non-system folder, for example C:\Temp, patch it there, then restore the .exe to where you found it.

Failing that, it could simply be a problem stemming from Plugins. In any case, BEFORE users start installing tons of mods, it is best to check the vanilla SC4 is working fine. In any case, until you’ve solved the crashing issue, you’d be better off moving everything in Plugins somewhere SC4 won’t load it.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

to answer your question, the SimCity 4 offline file installed in GOG Galaxy \ games \ SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition. There is an apps folder with the SimCity 4 application file. I applied the 4GB Patch to it. (see below) There is no other instance of these relevant files elsewhere on the computer. When i install the file, the game files go to documents SimCity 4 with all the plugins going into the plugins folder there (the second screenshot below). I followed Wolf's tutorial segment by segment. the game still crashes.  image.png.cc26915eaa48141dbf79937a0f15736c.pngimage.png.b8e831218f7f358c5a7b57406328b3e3.png
