Here are some clues to help, from the city's Wikipedia article:

??? is the *****'s third-largest metropolitan area (after ***** and *****). It is the 20th-largest metropolitan area in *****. ???'s estimated population in 2020 is 222,748 in the metropolitan area and 142,146 in the city proper. After a period of suburban expansion into the surrounding mountain slopes, the city council adopted a long-term plan intended to increase density instead — particularly in the downtown core. This has resulted in the construction of taller buildings, including ***** — a 36-story building that is the tallest in ???. Other high rise developments have already broken ground or been approved since then, including a 42-storey tower on ***** Avenue which will be the tallest building in the city, and among the tallest in *****.

You're on the right track with exposed glacial rock. Between this topography and that rather square grid layout, there's only one continent featuring both at once.

According to the Wikipedia article, there also seem to be a noticeable high-rise boom. So the local market must be pretty attractive and hot to support that kind of growth.

Additionally, if at around 200k this city is the 3rd largest metro of the administrative territorial entity it belongs to, the region's population density must be pretty low.

Kelowna, Canada! I was lucky now because I was travelling (using google maps lol) that area some weeks ago, so when I saw this I went straight there (but had to search a bit bc I wasn't sure if I had seen that city in Canada or Washington and Idaho USA)

Terracota roofs, those are not always telltale, but suggests a more milder climate, as well as the grass colour in the margins of the city.

There's a lot of ships in there, and of different sizes, and those ports look sizeable enough to be made for containers, so the city is probably involved with international shipping. The small airport and overall size of the city tell a different story though. And are those grid-like dots in the water salmon farms? That would suggest colder waters than I initially thought! Finally, the white sands mean that there's probably no active volcanism close to the city.

It's Vigo, in Galicia, Spain!

Sorry for the weird position of the labels, but the shape of the city required to take the screenshot sideways and righting it afterwards.

I too get a Nordic vibe from the image. I don't know why. The water looks like a fjord. But @Oliver25's description seems to point towards Canada, and the terrain indicates the East more than the West. Don't have much time to search now though.

I didn't realise that it was already solved. Well done!

    Good morning.

I think we're going to need some clues for this one if possible :D

I've checked all the cities facing East over a large body of what seems to be tropical waters along the equator, and I can't find anything.

This one is facing west, I kept the north upwards! The rest of your deductions are right though, it's a tropical place, though the orientation of the waters might be a source of confusion.

But to help narrowing things, I'll say this: a very famous rock musician was born in this city but moved far away very young, and another very famous rock musician made a song about a place named after this city.

hmm, apparently this one is proving harder than usual.

So, a hint: this is an important city on a very mountainous country, yet, as you can see, there's no mountains nearby it. And they aren't very comfortable sharing the country with the people from the mountains!

You say mountains, I immediately think the Andes. It's Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

Why are it's inhabitants not happy about sharing? Is it because the city is booming and the migrating peoples from the mountains are indigenous? Or is it just that they're unhappy about rural migrants?

Maybe my submissions are a bit easy, since I like posting unique places, but here goes a surprisingly large city, which is naturally very dense owing to it's unique geography:

They are! Malé particularly feels like a city striaght out from SC4 or C:S. It's rare to see such dense urbanization on a tiny island.

Oh, I know that one, it is the port of Progreso, Yucatán, México, close to the white city of Mérida and right next to Chicxulub, the impact zone of the crater that is believed to have ended most of the dinosaurs. By the way, you guys should google "Chicxulub crater" for a funny surprise.

Oh, people speak English in that city, I can see it from this far, with the very characteristic warehouse neigbourhoods.

Considering the astoundingly white sands and the shape of that estuary, that can only be in Western Australia, or maybe California, but it doesn't look like the Californian cities I recognise...

It is Perth, Australia, in fact!

This may or may not be an easy one but I've been particularly thinking about cities that have to incorporate a lot of vertical terrain, and how much I like them in general.

    Eastern Russia?

    • It seems to be in a colder region based on the surface textures
    • The core density looks European
    • The immediate surrounding neighborhoods have a more soviet profile with bar-shaped buildings
    • Yet the blue roofs pattern of industrial areas in the outskirt of the metro is more common in Asia

Am I close? Otherwise, some hints would be much appreciated ;)

Close in longitude at least. If it helps, here's a zoom in on just the urban core.

This city is best known for its karst topography, some of which is visible in these images. It is also historically significant, a popular tourist destination, and the third-largest city in _____.

    Hello  @kaimai

Sorry, it's not your turn to post a new city to guess. Here is a link to the rules in the first page of this thread:

    1. - The first person to correctly identify the city gets to share the next Google Earth satellite image. So, this can't be your turn unless you successfully guessed the previous city first.
    2. - The game is 'Guess the City/Metro from Satellite Image'. Your last post doesn't feature a satellite image of a city. It also shows more of a village rather than a city/metro. To keep the game at a moderate difficulty level accessible to a broader audience, it's best to avoid small, lesser-known towns or villages, unless they are internationally famous or have a unique geopolitical trait (e.g., Monaco, Vatican City, Luxembourg, Gibraltar). Instead, players tend to focus on average to large cities or metropolitan areas (e.g., population > 100k).

Please remove your last post and review the rules of the game.

You got it! It is Basel, a unique metro sprawling over three countries at once: Switzerland, France, and Germany. At some point it was ranked #10 best place to live in the world. It's fascinating to think of the international cooperation it must take to manage its transit system. The Roche Towers give it an interesting skyline, too.
