Can I flood Simtropolis with AI-generated BATs?

Hello,

The introduction of OpenAI's Sora opened up a huge Pandora box, which is the creation of high-quality imagery and even videos using just a simple prompt. Here's the vid from OpenAI themselves:

This, coupled with a simple image-to-BAT generator, which @memo or @rivit can make it, could open up the possibility of flooding Simtropolis and other exchanges with high-quality photorealistic fresh new BAT every single day. Yes, you heard that right, every single day. The likes of BSC, @SIM-ple Jack, etc will become obsolete when this AI is used. Heck, you don't even need Sora. You can do this with Stable Diffusion or any other open source solutions. The question is, should we allow AI-generated content right here in Simtropolis and other exchanges? Also, should we also allow the creation of CJs that never actually exist (as .sc4 files) using AI? I'll invite you to a civil discussion.

No.

Okay, so, for the AIbros who are salivating at this opportunity, I'll make it simple and also tell you to piss off:

AI does not have object persistence. Create an image of a BAT, it has to stay consistent in all four zooms and angles. AI is not capable of making that distinction with static images which are taken at multiple zoom levels and rotations - not right now, and it's always going to end up with those classic inconsistencies, like five fingers instead of four, etc.

Also City Journals are meant to be expressions of human creativity, not some content that's churned out to appease the almighty algorithm.

TLDR: don't expect this to happen any time soon.

How would that even work? A BAT isn't a static image, it's a model.

Have you spoken to either before you volunteer their time? Sorry to nitpick but people generally like to get involved in projects that matter to them. There really isn’t a need to specifically holler folks names because you had an idea.

If AI could take an image and make a 3D model, it wouldn’t matter whether or not it did so as a full 3D model. Provided it could be imported or opened in an app that could then pre-render it for use with SC4.

I can see a lot of hoops to jump through and it’s not like Insert Picture out comes a ready to use game asset. But it could be a fast way to make BAT models and heck, if you can do that you can upload them here. The fact that it was created by AI doesn’t invalidate it’s existence. Whether users will like the end results is probably more of an issue. For example will they have nitelites and what sort of quality overall?

But I must say the word Flood is a poor choice. I’d imagine we’d take a dim view to that generally. Although if you really could produce say 10 good models a day, I don’t actually think that’s going to be a problem.

However if AI generated images is all this does, that has no practical use that I can see. Texturing doesn’t work like this and you can’t fabricate a model based on an image. If you could it would take some seriously smart and complex coding to achieve such. Not really hobby territory IMO.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Joke's on you! I was born obsolete. *:D

I've already tried this program with images I've created, and they've come out as a cross between mashed yams and Hiroshima. Granted, I'm not familiar with the program enough to crank out hourly masterpieces, but it doesn't really involve me enough to want to devote much time to it. Maybe, some day I'll give it another whirl. One thing I do notice about it, it tends to ignore one of the tenets of art: composition, as most imagery I've seen seems to be in a Kodak family pictures format. Anyway, the bulk of the members here seem to be game purists and don't really like it when I get too wild with the imagery.

I always apply the "Star Wars Analogy" to things like this. The first one(back in the 70's) was a fun, character driven homage to Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers serials with cheesy effects. Every sequel had better effects but progressively less charm.

Pseudo Algorithm, which is the correct term, not Artificial Intelligence as it still needs about 1-3 decades in order for it to be able to reproduce human-like products. I am personally guessing by the next century, it will be at a point where humans will be replaced. I have seen so many things generated by these algorithms and quite frankly, I think it is simply not practical due to how primative and bad it is at this time.
