As someone also making a tropical-themed southeast asia/india type region this will be helpful, thanks!

(And, unrelated question: I've likewise found not a whole lot of buildings from this region, and I think I've been through basically everything on the STEX and am now hunting through dependency packs for extra buildings... is there anywhere else I should look for tropical third-world type content? I already have most of the LBT stuff, + as much as I could find from debussyman, harishna, ct1999, wallibuk, maloskero, adrianor, thailand BAT team. In particular it's harder to find higher-stage residential/commercial buildings that look appropriately weathered unless I concede to having a significant Japanese/Chinese presence, but there's also a shortage of non-Christian places of worship and open-air markets)

This thread might be useful!

Another spot that comes to mind is the Capital SimCity website. It's in Spanish, but I found navigating fairly easy: http://descargas.capitalsim.net/?sitio=csc

So as @Dead_End said, you could try searching for some buildings in capital SimCity. The names you listed are the same I got mostly of my buildings and props. I'm creating a bunch of LOTs using Lot Editor to give that dense/crowded feel to my cities.

Also I feel you, it's hard to get some non-christian places of worship, specially hindu/buddhist :/. Regarding the markets, there's more options (also you can create your own lots with props) I can think of these:

Hope it can help you ^^

Thanks! The Real Life BATs thread is very useful actually, I'll hold onto that as a reference. I also haven't gone through CapitalSim systematically although I do already have quite a few buildings & props from there.

These are definitely helpful yeah, even if not exactly the style I'm looking for—I guess I'll start building some appropriately chaotic-looking street markets in PIMX in combination with whichever industrial props seem fitting.

I am honestly so tempted to download gmax (or sketchup or blender or w/e) and try building a few small mosques, hindu temples, buddhist shrines, etc even though I know it'll be extremely annoying and probably not look particularly good compared to anyone else's work

So as you guys may know, memo released a new version of the old BAT4Blender Project, and that was a very exciting news for me, since I don't have access to a 3dsMAX copy right now, don't really like gmax and SketchUp, the program I use to model (I know, I know :P) have some limitations regarding SC4 modelling. As you can see reading that thread, there's still some things that need to be fixed - and hopefully memo or the community will be able to do it - but Blender will become my main program when that happens

Also, today I opened my W.I.P. BAT folder and found two buildings I started months ago. One is basically done, a smalltown polish shop I just need to export. The other one - that I will be showing now - is a supermarket that I had 80% of the modelling part done but still needed to do all the texturing. I hope these two BATs are the last ones I make using SketchUp - I’m hoping to use only Blender for modeling in the future. Anyway, I did a bit of progress today with the modelling (imo it's done) and started some texturing in the supermarket:

    gama4.png.9a2301c8b33b5bf4bd76415cd5f2d675.png

The colors on the wall are temporary, just so we can see better the details in the model in the gmax render. What do you guys think? It's a small supermarket, suitable to small/mid towns or even suburbs of big cities. There will be problably a 3x3 lot and maybe a bigger 5x4 or similar. I’m a bit rusty after going months without practicing, so I’m totally open to suggestions and criticism haha

    Thanks :)

God how I hate doing nightlights. I was stuck there because it's just so boring and tedious and hard doing it using gmax. Almost dropped that bat for that reason. BUT I finished it eventually and just released it today:

    Looks great!

Not sure if you intended it this way, but the design might also work really well with the signs from this file:

That warehouse is fantastically versatile! You could try batting everything but the facade once, and then model only the facades for many different uses: auto repairs, wood and steel stores, propane distributors, wholesale stores, parking lots, recycling centres, night clubs, even evangelical churches!

I can look for real-life examples and post reference images if you want, my neighborhood is full of those!

You could also make the model as a 1x1 prop and seamless, so that it could be stacked in both directions to make bigger warehouses directly on the lot editor.

Thanks. I don't know about BATting it facade-less or just doing a couple versions of it, I will see how I will be able to manage that, specially because of nightlights and LODs (I just did my first custom LOD lol, I'm still a bit inexperienced). Anyway, it will have more than just one version, that I can guarantee!

Regarding the references images, you know, it's never enough. It could help not only me but other people, so if you're able too it would be good, but don't feel obligated to do it asap lol specially because I'm not in a position to create and release a lot of BATs right now

    ------------------------------

Yesterday I created a small police station based on one I saw on google maps (Arapiraca Police Station). What do you guys think? It's basically done, I'm a bad LOTter so its a very simple LOT. I will problably release it soon if no one have any ideia of how to improve it *:thumb:

Also that was the first time I created a very custom LOD. Not as hard as I thought lol, but still not perfect, I can see some small mistakes that I can improve in future releases. Anyway, nothing that annoys me right now with this BAT, so I'm looking for your guys feedback.

    Thanks!

Great building! For the lotting: The row of three cars appears to be really close together. I'd maybe remove the one in the middle. Some industrial props might also work in the courtyard. @jestarr has some great prop packs for this.

Looks nice! *:) The custom lod is definitely a great thing to have on a building like this!

The opening in the concrete wall for the driveway does not quite look tall enough for cars to pass through. Also, are you using the default police car prop? If not I'd recommend doing so - that way if anyone has a police car override it will show up the same on your lot too.

Thank you so much, I tried to implement what you guys said:

I scalled the building on the Z axis to make it taller, changed the police prop to the default from maxis, and added jestarr industrial props to make the LOT more interesting. Thinking of calling it a day and uploading it today or tomorrow.

admittedly I'm also not in a position to create or release a lot of BATs (just need more days when I'm working from home and thus can be productive during those 10+ minute preview renders...) but I've found custom LODs to be pretty easy to make and also do enjoy nightlighting. also still very inexperienced of course. but I'd be down to collab if that's something you'd be interested in, have been wanting to create more tropical themed buildings anyway.... farms, civics, medium-wealth houses, etc.

Thanks for dropping by. Yes, nightlights in 3ds Max are not only more beautiful but also easier to work with. About a collaboration, I'm sorry but I'm not in a position to accept an official partnership right now because I can't meet deadlines due to real life, haha. That said, I appreciate you being willing to collaborate with me if needed, and I offer the same to you - if you need help with modeling, references, textures  or anything else just reach out  and I'll do what I can to help you. The problem is that I can’t guarantee a deadline for my responses (I might reply the same day like this week that I had a break, or it might take many weeks, like my CJ that I haven't updated in months). I hope to be more present in the future, and maybe then we can do something more active like that.

By the way, I really liked the mosque you posted previews of on Discord; you're very talented in modeling. Congratulations, and keep adding those tropical BATs that the community needs!

    Just released the police station:

Thanks for the help, you guys were essential to make the Lot more interesting and realistic!

Totally understandable, I also cannot meet deadlines and am not nearly as active as I want to be, somehow making buildings for SC4 doesn't pay the rent??? very strange! But yes police station looks great, I should probably likewise start some new BATs because the masjid was modeled the tutorial way, one wall at a time, which I've since learned is somewhat inefficient...

    Haha I feel you *:P

    =====================================================================

I started a new project - some 3 storeys residential buildings that exist a lot in Brazil (and I'm pretty sure also in the other countries of LatAm) and work great as a transition between the city center and the suburbs/neighbourhoods of small houses. I just finished the first model prototype (maybe 2 or 3 color variations). I will problably model something between 5 to 10 buildings (all veeery similar as this one in design and Lot size/style). As always, I'm open to feedback!

I like these a lot! My only concern (?) is the slightly too homogenous roof texture next to the Wallibuk/Maloskero buildings—it looks like it could use more internal color variety or randomness to blend in better. Otherwise very realistic, I've seen a lot of these in the Balkans and Middle East as well; somewhat reminiscent of @Gn_leugim's work which I also quite like.

Thank you! I will take a look into that question since I will need to re-export then again. I will see how it looks with other roof textures with a bit more variety!

So I created a new model of that pack I talked about in my last post:

I edited the roof texture to have more variety and not be single-color only - I know it still less diverse than the buildings around it, but in real life, these kind of more colorful roof are more common in the northeasten part of Brazil and in some historical cities, and not really as common in the cities I'm taking inspiration to recreate this new building pack. But I think the new texture looks a lot better than the former, so thanks @kaimai for the suggestion!

Also I put some cars in the garage that exists below the building, I think it's a nice touch to be more realistic! As always, I'm open to suggestions and feedback!

Yes that looks great, much better—just the right amount more weathered/lived in. Cars under the building are also a nice touch, although I might either raise the stilts by a meter or two or move the cars 1 or 2m further in, possibly a vertical foreshortening thing but they look a bit squashed.

    Hi

I wonder if you have the tree controller for your Karelian region left or if you deleted it?

    Regards Oidaas

Well, I still have it, but I think you'll be disappointed lol.
When I created this tree controller over a year ago, I had much less experience with how to handle it, so it's actually a tree controller for just one tree lol. At the time, I couldn't make it plant a fully developed forest like I wanted, so I made it fill the map with Spruces, and then I would place Norwegian Maples and Larches as MMPs in the areas that would appear in the pictures I take for my CJ.
I'll leave the file attached below. I can't promise anything, but in the future, I might try working on this tree controller again to make it work the way I originally wanted. But at the moment, I don't have any free time for that, sorry. Also I'm pretty sure it only work for sea level and related areas. I don't remember editing it to make plant trees in altitude, so yeah, it's a very WIP file. Hope you can find some use for it - here is the tutorial I followed to create this file and the central american tree controller I showed here - this one fully developed

The only dependencie are the trees found here:

I will probably create two more models - another 1x2 and a corner building maybe, 1x2 or 2x2. In the total we will have something around 17 buildings in our pack 😁

I will release it in the following hours/days. In the future I expect to create some kind of expansion pack for it
