Diagonal Crossings Pathing Issue?

I'm wondering if there might be an issue with rectangular crossings of diagonal roads and streets. It seems to me that when a diagonal streets ends rectangular in a diagonal road this crossing blocks all traffic except for pedestrians:

Traffic query road: only used by pedestrians

Traffic query street: all cars and buses prefer this longer and slower route

It´s not the first time I experienced this "oddity", just 1st time documenting it. As I´m on a mac I cannot control the paths - extra cheats don´t work....

Maybe important: the diagonal street is build w diagonal helper pieces as there´s a light slope.

Alright, let's see what you got here:

  • Contrary to what you might think, the network slope only affects the animations of the vehicles, not their actual traffic simulator behavior. What instead will affect the behavior are the number and spacing of intersections (more intersection approach congestion), whether the path configurations along a curve generate additional congestion (been finding lots of cases like this, slowly addressing them), and the relative base speeds and capacities of the networks (road should have an overall advantage over street for a similar distance).
  • I do wonder about how congestion is behaving here. Can you post this view with the traffic congestion map, and with the traffic volume for cars (not road traffic)?
  • One of the ongoing NAM projects is a revision of the diagonal street intersections, which will include re-designed paths to match a smoother geometry.

We can actually do a traffic experiment! If you sever the street along which your cars and buses are going to avoid the coastal road, do they re-route along the coastal road, or does that traffic disappear altogether, or perhaps take an entirely different route (like the other diagonal street towards the upper right)?

Try demolishing both ends of the street segment the bus route is following, I want to check if the diagonal street end T on road is allowing car traffic. My preliminary verification of that set-up is that the paths, in theory, should be valid, even if the route the cars / trucks / buses would take doesn't make much sense.

Ok, shame on my head - I should have investigated more before posting this, sorry for that. It´s definitely not the crossing that blocks bus and car traffic there, even if it still seems odd to me that the coastal route is just used by pedestrians. Regarding congestion: no congestion at all, there are just around 500 sims on their way to work.

See the pics after destruction of the street connections:

I´ll try to find a second spot in my region with a similar oddity.
