I am having problems crashing since installing NAM 47

I am very new to modern PC gaming, my last PC game was Half Life. So... I might be dumb. lol

I use Steam on a year old Lenovo i7 laptop with Windows 11. It isn't top notch gaming but it should be able to run a 20 year old game, right? But every time I click on a "city" it crashes to the desktop.

It was working, then I was told to download NAM, so I did. I didn't install the 4GB Patch til after installing NAM. I have tried uninstalling everything, including steam. I restarted the laptop, installed steam, the game, then the 4GB patch, and lastly NAM 47. It still crashes. I tried uninstalling every thing and only installing Steam and SC4 with no patch or NAM and still crashes.

I am out of ideas. Please Help :)

Assuming the game ran fine before installing NAM, the immediate crashing when opening a city is usually the result of not having the 4GB patch applied. Since you say you did run the patch, did you do so after unzipping the NAM download? It is best to unzip the package before running the installers rather than running them from the zipped folder.

Just a thought...

There is a simple test here, temporarily remove the Network Addon Mod folder from Plugins, does SC4 run now?

If yes, then it points to the 4GB patch having not been applied or perhaps you don’t meet the requirements to utilise it (enough system RAM). Note too if you are not planning on using the RHW feature of the NAM, you can instead install the Low RAM/No RHW controller, which is much lighter in resources.

If it still doesn’t load without NAM present, perhaps there is a more general issue that you need to address. The game often requires some manual configuration to run properly on newer hardware.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
