Fixing slopes

I am new to sc4. How can I fix bumpy slopes for roads and rail? Are there any perfect mods out there?

I do remember seeing a video on YouTube of a particular rail that would be dragged alongside a bumpy road to fix the slope. Does anyone know where I can find that particular rail? (Maybe a mod might need to be installed to change a railroad/monorail in the game).

These mods are known as slope mods, and allow the transitions for smoother realistic gradients for transport networks. They do come with a learning curve, in the sense of they can make it difficult to construct roads on steeper undulating terrain. Once getting used to them though and the benefits they bring, they're ever so useful.

For which slope mod to use, it's very much personal preference. Some have their own quirks which need getting used to, and it's also possible to modify the parameters for the various thresholds for how slope calculations are done. That's completely optional though, and they do work fine out of the box. A useful idea is to create a test sandbox region, and have an experiment with a few. Then it's possible to get the hang of what each does, along with their limitations (and workarounds).

If you use standard-issue slope mods, they'll cover nearly all networks (sometimes missing the RealHighway). Those which are correctly designed will have a variety of network slopes, and typically the rail networks (Conventional Rail/RealRailway, Elevated Rail, Monorail/High Speed Rail) are flatter than road networks. Get a slope mod of your liking, and check if any rail network allows you to smooth out alignments for road networks.
