I recently installed this mod:

but only the lot is showing up, not the building. And I am not getting the typical brown box that you usually get with missing dependencies. Any idea what is going on?

It looks like that lot uses Maxis buildings as props, so it'll probably need one (or both) of these two files:

(From the Maxis Files page.)

If they still don't appear, it's possible given the age of the lot, it may instead depend on files contained in:

These files aren't recommended nowadays, but older legacy content might still require a combination of them.

Hope this helps!

Since I had all the files mentioned above (including the ones in @CorinaMarie's file) that I had collected over the years, I just went ahead and added them all to an empty Plugins folder along with the Police HQ Lot file and ran a DataNode scan on the bunch

The bldgprop_vol1.dat file is the one you need for this particular lot. You really need to have both of the Maxis files in your Plugins as there is tons of content available that use these files. Or as an alternative, you can use the Maxis Prop Names and Query Fix by @T Wrecks. His file actually combines the two Maxis files and corrects some of the text seen in hover queries. It wouldn't be a bad idea to download Cori's file as well, to have available just in case.

Just FYI, the building you see is actually "assembled" by essentially stacking and/or combining multiple building props or multiple copies of the same prop. This was a common practice back when this lot was published, as most of the tools commonly used today for creating BATS were either not available or the learning curve was too steep for many people.
