NAM and TSCT on Mac OS Big Sur 11.5.1 - Steam Version of SimCity 4 Rush Hour

Hi everyone! I am new to SimCity 4 and completely new to the NAM tool, but I can't seem to run the Traffic Simulator Tool.

I installed the NAM 41 version in the plugin section of the Steam file as is shown in the attached picture (the full 4gb one). Then I ran the game and I could see that all the add-ons were working correctly, but when I tried to open the actual Traffic Simulator tool, I get an error message and it never opens, no matter what. Worst thing is that, after one attempt, it doesn't even show the error message again, I have to restart the computer to even try to open it again.

I have searched all over the internet but I can´t find a solution, is there anyone that can help?

Instructions for this under Catalina were outlined in this earlier post, but I imagine it's the same for Big Sur. Depending on where you've extracted the TSCT files, your Mac may be unwilling to allow it to access certain files/folders which are in protected areas. So you need to move both the app and files you wish to alter both to somewhere these restrictions don't apply.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Nope...still getting the same error message, even when I moved the TSCT files to the Documents root folder...

That error message looks like it may be Java-related.  macOS Big Sur reportedly messes with some of the Java environment variables, which could potentially be an issue if you're trying to run a version of Java you had installed prior to moving to Big Sur.  I'd try downloading and installing a macOS version of the JRE (Java Runtime Environment off of Adoptium (the new site for what used to be AdoptOpenJDK), and see if that fixes the issue.

    Documents root folder...

Even under Catalina, that's not far enough back, the Documents folder is a system protected folder. You need to be one folder further back, the root User folder for your account. Specifically under Mac HD\Users\USERNAME, if you create a new folder here, say TSCT, you should be able to work with the app present there. Just make sure to similarly move your NAM folder to this new folder whilst working with (editing) the files.
