Hi,

I have a mac with Big Sur operating system.  I just received the 3 disc STEX Collection.  I use Google chrome on my mac to do my internet stuff not Safari.  I am following the instructions provided with the ISO Linkys Guide but I am still not able to open the Disc.  I have tried several different ways and I am getting the message this is a windows product or see below.

This is what I am doing:

Download STEXDVD_03, then I save the file in my SimCity4 folder.  I double click on the file and this is what I get (I have tried saving the file in Application but it still opens the same as the SimCity4 folder.

Help what am i doing wrong!

Hi @PVK

I'm only a Windows user here myself, but I know Macs cannot run executable files like the setup.exe there. So here are the steps I've just replicated now for extracting the data to be used, without needing to run the executable file. This way it'll allow the STEX Collection to be opened in your web browser directly.

As follows:

  1. Copy the entire data folder to a suitable storage location on your local storage disk.
  2. There will then be 4 folders inside:
    STEX-Collection Extract - Step 01.png

  3. Open the Docs folder and you'll see a data.zip archive inside, which is 2.4 GB in size.
  4. Extract this (copy out the contents) so then all the files within the zip are placed outside of it.
  5. Then you'll see a START.HTM file, and also a data subfolder.
  6. Click to open the file, and your web browser will open up loading the main launch page:

    STEX-Collection Extract - Step 02.png

  7. Click the LAUNCH text and it'll navigate to the index page.
(Alternatively you can just open the index.html inside of the data folder, since it's the same page it opens.)

  8. Then the STEX Collection can be navigated using the user interface controls:

    STEX-Collection Extract - Step 03.jpg

  9. And there it is!

Now I've only tested this here on Windows system as it's all I have, but I expect these same steps to work on a Mac or Linux system as well.

Also the same (or very similar) process will apply for the other Collections as well.

Hope this helps, and let us know if anything can be clarified further. *:)

    Hi Cyclone Boom,

Your instructions worked for STEX 3 and 4 but not with 5. When I zip open from the doc file there is no START.HTM file, or a data subfolder. I found a index.html but it doesn’t open to where the STEX 5 collection can be navigated.

    Thanks PVK

I'm glad to hear it worked for Vol 3 & 4 with the extraction method.

It is a bit unusual why it doesn't for Vol 5 though. I checked using the same method and found the process worked the same here, so I'm not too sure what else to suggest for how to go about this. Maybe try the steps again just to make sure, or we'll have to wait for another Mac user to confirm whether there's any trouble or another way.

In this case, the size of the extracted data folder (from the zip file) should be just under 4 GB in size.

Also maybe try clicking the index.html file directly, which opens the navigator main page:

    Hi Cyclone Boom,

I rebooted my computer and had no problem with extracting Vol 5.  I did it the same way as I did Vol 3 and 4.

    Thanks so much!  PVK
