Having problems remapping my region

I'm wanting to remap, or specifically redefine where the small, medium, and large cities are in my region that I'm working on (Fairview).

I was under the impression that I could simply repaint the config bitmap, and reload it (with ctrl+shift+alt+r) in game, but that doesn't appear to be the case, and all the cities stay the same.

Am I missing something? Do I need to use a remapper tool?

You can't once the region has been started, especially if you've started cities. Run your map through SC4 Mapper again and cut it the way you want to with a new name, then transfer your cities(if any) to the new region via the import tool.

Just bear in mind this would destroy any cities with development in the process. So only ever do this if you have not yet started building in the region or are prepared to start over.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

No, this time you are wrong. I've saved a few regions before that were glitching, with exactly this method. As a matter of fact, I store left over tiles from regions that didn't quite work out, onto dummy regions, in case I want to use them on some future project. Some with different textures and depth sizes. And they all transferred perfectly to the new region. Some are years old, too. Just because your responses are biblically epic in length, doesn't mean they're always correct. I made a copy of this post, btw. You know, just in case. *;)

In however many words it takes to explain something, it's good that each of us can share our experiences for what we feel is correct. It depends on varied factors quite often for what might be true or untrue in certain circumstances. As such there can be things which are correct or incorrect on different occasions.

Exploring such details after all is the purpose of discussion forums like this. Also it is best that we discuss the subject matter instead of each other.

Maybe I need to be more specific... if you try to take an existing city and "remap" it, that won't work, which is what I meant. So for example, if the new configuration cuts a piece off say a large city tile, you will destroy the save file for that city. Provided you don't change any existing developed cities, you can modify around them without problem. Nonetheless, you really do need to be very careful doing this in an existing region, as usual having a backup will ensure you can undo any errors.
