One tile Residential, Commercial, and Industrial not producing buildings

When ever I put down only one residential, commercial, or industrial tile, no building will appear in its place. (I am talking about length, not width, by the way.) I do not see any reason why this is happening. The tiles have water and power, so that is not the problem. Is there a mod or something I can download to fix this?

Hi @COOLCAT54366, part of the answer is due to stages of development (ie growth stages) in the tile and what, if anything, you have in your plugins.

These stages of growth in a vanilla city tile are largely linear going from stage 1 through to 8. In other words, when you start your city, you are basically at stage 1 and you need to have lots and buildings that grow at that low stage or no development will occur.

So taking any custom content out of the equation, Maxis low wealth, low density Residential starts at 1x2 lots at stage 1 and don't go to 1x1 until stage 2.

So if you haven't zoned 1x2, then not much will happen when you first start your city unless your regional demand is extremely high. Medium wealth, low density residential starts at 2x3 for stage 1 and doesn't get get to 1x1 until stage 5. High wealth residential do not make an appearance at all on a 1x1 tile. To answer the question for downloads, I have made a lot of low and medium wealth houses that fit onto 1x1 tiles, and some at lower stages than Maxis, if you are interested, just do a search on my name at the LEX. IDS2 also made some houses that fit into a 1x1 lot, but they are not at stage 1. CP/Cycledogg also made a lot of houses, but again, I don't think any are 1x1 stage 1.

The same applies to Commercial offices. They really don't have 1x1 lot sizes until stage 6 (medium and high density only).

Low wealth, low density commercial Services do start at 1x1 lots at stage 1, but of course you need demand, and in order to get demand, you need residential. So the key for you is to either get low wealth 1x1 houses at stage 1 or zone larger tracts of land at the beginning. Once your city has developed and started the demand cycle then you can rezone to the 1x1/2x1, etc sizes and in theory you should be able to get development.

Edit: I've also converted the Maxis R$ 1x2 that uses a 4x10 building family to a 1x1 lot for you and made it a stage 1 instead of stage 2. It will give you 8 different buildings from the 1 lot (I've shown 3 in the screenshots), so a bit of variation.

It is just basic Maxis, no dependencies: just download the attached lot file and place it in your plugins.

Thank you so much! This makes sense because normally when I try to make one tile buildings is when I make small rural towns which, obviously, don't make it far past stage 1. However, are growth stages the culprit when it comes to single tile industrial buildings as well?

Maxis-made industrial lots behave a little differently from residentials and commercials.

Broadly speaking each of the subcategories (dirty, manufacturing and hi-tech) have 3 separate types of lots: Anchor, Mech and Out. When you zone, the anchor lots grow first and then these are followed by the Mech and Out lots that fill in the spaces. These Mech and Out lots are more often likely to be 1x1 (Eg the smokestack, petroleum tank etc)

With the exception of Farleys Foundry, the Anchor lots are all larger than 1 tile deep. Farleys Foundry is an ID$ stage 1 on a 2x1 lot. So if you are going to get this to grow it would be wise to hold the CTRL Key when you zone. However another option is to just zone a largeish area (at least 4 tiles deep) and then bulldoze/dezone anything that is more than 1 tile deep and not adjacent to the road/street. The Mech and Out buildings, once grown, will survive without the Anchor lot.
