Hello everyone,

since I am - like most of you - a big fan of the classic SimCity series I thought about creating my own project in that kind of style almost five years ago. I hope it's ok to tell you about my project in here. My project is called Road to your City and is a city building and management game with a heavy emphasis on football.

If I might introduce myself: my name is Christian, I am living in Germany, I am 35 years old and work as a senior software developer. In my spare-time I am working on the project for almost 5 years now. I did everything by myself (except for sound & music since I don't have the talent) - the concept, the game engine, all kind of graphics and the gameplay programming of course.

I thought to sign up over here because there might be some people being interested in my project. The game already ran through two alpha stages and will be released in 2019. In my Discord channel there is already a small but very nice community with some enthusiasts really loving the game, testing and supporting it.

End of January I am going to start a Kickstarter campaign (including a demo version) which is meant to lift the game on another level concerning graphics and audio but it won't have any influence whether the game will be released or not - the game will definitely be released in 2019 as an Early Access (if the Kickstarter works out I will be able to make a full release by the end of the year).

Whoever read this post until here - which makes me really happy by the way - might be interested in more information. Here is another short description of the game and its current features.

RoadToYourCity_2019_01.jpg

Road to your City is a city building and management game with a heavy emphasis on football. Slipping into the role of mayor, you are tasked with growing your city from a tiny village while simultaneously establishing a successful football club. Meet the wants and needs of your citizens and allow your city to flourish, all the while developing your football club from grassroots to world class powerhouse.

  • Build a city for people to live and work in. Create homes and provide jobs.
  • Found a football club, adding and developing talent as it grows.
  • Install and maintain training facilities to provide your players with the best development environment possible.
  • Enter your club in competition, starting with the district league all the way to the premiere competitions in world football.
  • Construct a football stadium and use your inevitable success on the pitch to attract new supporters.
  • React to security, satisfaction and population developments by upgrading or expanding your city with the buildings it needs.
  • Deal with unpredictable events such as players leaving or hooligans causing trouble in your stadium.
  • Further your city’s financial situation by providing services like TV, fan shops, and banks.
  • Request and acquire funding to develop both your city and club.
  • And much more!

Yep. It's perfectly ok to tell us about your project here. While Simtropolis focuses mainly on SimCity 4 and Cities: Skylines, we welcome all other city builder style games. *:)

Hiya, Christian. Welcome to Simtropolis! I'm Cori, I live in the state of Indiana in the USA, and work as a data analyst for a residential real estate appraiser. (Oh, and I'm one of the administrators of this site.)

I took the liberty of adding your first development log as an embedded video in your post. Peeps are more likely to click the familiar play button within the picture. *;)

While I won't be diverting my attention from SC4, I do wish you the best of luck with your creation.

Hi there Christian - I like the retro look your game has.  Though, like Cori, I'm not planning to leave SC4 until a "proper" (for me *:)) replacement comes around (think SC4 with real 3d graphics combined with street level exploration like GTA  *:D )

Great idea, thanks a lot! Totally fine - SC4 is a great game but honestly I don't want to compete with it. But of course I can understand your passion for SC *:)

    Glad to hear that, Robert.
I don't want anyone to leave SC *:D I share your passion for city builders - that´s why I started creating one.

Hope you will be able to play your SimCity you ever dreamt of some day - in 3D of course!

All the best for both of you and a Happy New Year!

    Cheers from Germany,
    Christian

    Hi Christian,

I'm CB or Cyclone.  (Though please not "Cycle" as I occasionally get called. *:P )

As one of the other admins of the site, allow me to extend my own welcome to you here at ST.

With these types of projects it helps having a passion to strive towards the end objective, and it's great to see how you've got a clear concept and are motivated in achieving that goal. With the idea to have it football themed and integrating with strategic planning, it sure is a creative slant on city building. This reminds me a little of a little of Roller Coaster Tycoon which involves the successful management of a theme park, building up an empire, and trying to upgrade facilities and financially progress in a business environment. Of course, these days professional football clubs are very much a business, and so there will be interrelating factors how the club influences the local economy.

For me personally, I'm also still into SC4 and have no plans to move away. But I wish you all the best and I'll be looking out for your updates.

With this "City-Building Games" forum, you may find it's a bit quieter than the main discussion topics. But feel free to reply in here consecutively to post new videos or information leading up to the release. Don't worry about topic bumping either, and we have no hard rules on that front. This is your thread and you're free to use it as you wish. *;)

(In your initial post, I've uploaded your main banner image to local site storage, as those social media sites can have the potential to make things go walkabout without notice.)
