  1. Hi, We're developing a new resort building/sim game called "Eden Isle: Resort Paradise" that lets players create their dream vacation resort. We'd love your feedback on the game. If anyone wants to play it you can sign up for our beta at www.EdenIsleGame.com. The beta is totally free and is available on iPhone and iPad. Here are some more details on the game along with a trailer: Design, build and manage your very own resort in Eden Isle: Resort Paradise! - Attract guest types such as treehuggers, hipsters, glampers and fashionistas by building the facilities they want in your resort - Keep your guests happy by tending to their needs and responding to any special requests - Manage your bars, restaurants and shops well to earn as much money as possible - Decorate your resort to customise it and earn bonuses from nearby accommodation and activities - Keep your resort running smoothly by ensuring your activities are in good working order, your staff are well-trained, your resort is clean and your warehouse is well stocked. - As your resort improves, your resort score and star rating improves – can you build the ultimate five-star resort? Thanks in advance for all your feedback!
  2. Hey there! My name is Yevheniy and I am developing a city-building game named Ostriv. It has semi-fictional historical setting of late pre-industrial era. Here are some of the key features: Those are features that I've already implemented and mostly sure about. There are more features coming as well as better visuals. Here attaching some screenshots of current game state. (For more info visit: http://ostrivgame.com) Would really like to hear your thoughts on game concept! Now on Steam Greenlight:
  3. Dev Blog link! Hello, please check out my new dev blog series for a game that I am working on. Thankyou!
  4. Please give me feedback on my board game! This game has Chance, Charity, and Movement cards. Charity impacts money and ethics (doing the unethical thing is more profitable than the ethical thing but increases the punishment when arrested), Movement makes players advance to specific properties, change their movement, or give options to move specific distances without rolling (such as when you don't want to land on Super Tax, Arrest, or a heavily developed property). Ever since the first time I noticed the flaws in Monopoly City, I wanted to make a better board game. Now I'm in the final stages of redesign and play testing. My freshman-level computer science class has taught just enough to for a competent student in the class to design games in the C language and write logs to files telling what as done each turn. The computer program will have 1 represent $100 and calculate funds and asset values separately except when assets need to be sold to pay off debt; that way, I shouldn't run out of room with unsigned long integers. Using that computer program, I found that this game takes far fewer turns to win than Monopoly. I also playtested this game with friends and they enjoyed it much more than Monopoly and more than most other common board games. Pieces I designed for 3D Printing (should eventually be 2x2 cm on a high resolution printer, or injection mould) or digital board game I reorganized my board to be a bit more densely packed. Players travel roughly counterclockwise with some zigzags and the option to build bypasses in the form of the VIP Bridge and 2 shortcut alleys (the Movement spaces that touch). Game Board (final layout, simple graphics): Property Deeds: Rules in spoiler city-developers-test.pdf
  5. VirtuCity

Formerly known as AtoCity, created by Mark_Kochan, VirtuCity is an old fashioned grid-based city builder that takes some elements from Transport Tycoon and doesn't require 8Gb of ram to run properly cough *Cities skylines*cough or limits your borders to neighborhood size and calls it a "city-builder" cough*Simcity 2013*cough. This is the fifth rebuild of the engine, possibly the last, rebuilded around 2 weeks ago and I can say I'm quite happy with the result. It currently features: Modifiable terrain consisting of 2 layers, the bottom layer being water and the top - grassRudimentary Night/Day systemUh, that's it for now What I have planned to work on next couple of weeks: Basic city simulationMore than 2 layers terrainOptimising some more the terrain generationOptimise the day and night cycleImplement underground building (water pipes, electricity, etc)Possible implementation of Perlin Noise for terrain gen? I don't know how that would work with the slopes so I might go with erosion-based terrain gen, however this will come at a later stageThe reason it has so little features at the moment is because as I said I just started work 2 weeks ago so be patient people! I'm currently working on the road building system, any ideas how it can be done, other than fully automatic? Suggestion are welcome, the earlier mentioned - the better!
  6. EndCiv: A post-apocalyptic city builder

Indie Developer Crowbox in Germany, has promised a new and interesting take on the city building experience. Welcome the game EndCiv. "EndCiv is a survival city building game with high-quality 3D graphics. The world has been destroyed, and you are tasked with re-civilizing the wastelands. Resources for survival must be collected permanently to keep people alive. Energy production is an important task which is directly connected to the simulated weather of daytime, rain and wind. You will also experience that the wastelands are coming to life at night." With dynamic weather, and manageable resorces EndCiv offers a new take on the ideas of city planning. But the developers need your help, after a failed indegogo campaign it is not certain of the future for the game. Spreading awareness of the game would be a wonderful thing, as I know some of you might find interest. EndCiv on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/endcivgame UPDATE: New Images Released from Crowbox Productions for the upcoming title: Also, be sure to check out the game at Steam Greenlight to keep updated on the progress. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=322996033
  7. Unturned

Unturned is an early-access indie game being developed by Nelson Sexton. Set in the remains of society after a zombie apocalypse, the gameplay combines elements of survival and sandbox games in a way similar to Rust, DayZ, and Minecraft, while retaining its own original charm and visual style. Unturned allows you to scavenge, build, grow crops, hunt for food, loot, and explore in an open world, all while trying to survive. You can play alone or with others on PvP and PvE servers. Currently, there is only one map, based on Prince Edward Island in Canada, but more are planned to be added as the game progresses. In addition to these features, Unturned is highly driven by the community. In the words of the creator: "The game is being developed entirely with the community in focus, and tons of features are based entirely on feedback." Possibly the best part - the game is completely free. You can get it here on Steam. Has anyone else played this game? What do you think of it?
  8. Hey guys! I'm a 15 year old gamer and I plan on taking courses and tutorials in game design and programming. I have many bold ideas and I feel that I should finally take action. It sounds far fetched but I eventually want to have a game studio making games like Simcity, GTA, and even FPS games. I also want to found a consumer electronics company and make game consoles, phones, tablets, VR devices (oculus rift type), etc. The problem is that I know nothing about coding or game design and I've never made a game before, but I want to start now and eventually make these games. I've been thinking of making a city building game on CryEngine. It would be like Simcity 4. It would have zoning, terraforming, disasters, pretty much all the same mechanics but with modern graphics, modern building styles/ more building styles (european, asian, etc.), and modern cars. I want it to be very graphic intensive but very optimized so lower end PC's can still run it. It will have a photorealistic look to it because I hate the cartoony direction Maxis/EA is taking with Sims games. I would incorporate ideas that modders uses such as NAM. If I made this game and put it on Kickstarter, would you guys support it? I have a very high end gaming rig and I also have the free version of the CryEngine SDK so I can learn how to use it. If I feel that I can actually make this game then I will definitely purchase the full SDK and make modifications to the engine so it would be perfect for a city simulation game. Btw, It would not have always on drm, and my games would always support the PC platform first and consoles second.
  9. Hello, I have compiled a list here of the SimCity series and related games, including the more famous ones as well as independent projects and links to various other related games. Please feel free to mention any relevant games and link this post to other SimCity forums as I will be updating this list over time. Some of the games in the list I found in the forums here. My goal is to make a sort of archive list of any modern city builder games so if you are looking for something older, newer, different, similar, etc you can use this list as a reference. I also recommend checking out the Mobygames database - here is a list of city builder games, merchant/trade builder games and transportation network builder games. If you are into ancient and medieval city building games I have also posted a similar topic in the Heavengames forums here and a copy of that thread ,?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent> as well as a thread of linked threads in the City Builder Games forums here. The list below will contain games from any modern city building genre, as long as there is some kind of minimal amount of building involved. There are a bunch of independent modern city builder games so there is a lot of potential for a new SimCity sequel or new type of game, whether done in a classic 2d style or 3d style, either developed by a big company or independently. One promising example of independent development is the ancient military rts game 0AD, which can be interpreted as a remake of Age of Empires but in 3d, more historically realistic and the game will be fully moddable - so it seems there are still ways that the rts and city building game genres can evolve. Maybe creating a game engine, code, or game that could be custom modded is possible at this point after over a couple decades of various city builders. A game where people could modify the setting to include various modern urban settings such as a pre-Industrial age, early Industrial age, modern age, various post-Industrial age settings, alternate histories, scifi, alien, fantasy and alternate/"what if" past, present, and future settings would be interesting. A recent example of a futuristic scifi/fantasy city-building game is Anno 2070 which is included below. I have added some games in this list which are not directly related to modern city building. For example the Rise of Nations and Empire Earth series are military rts games, but they feature a modern age setting either in an age-progression or standalone-age game. I also added Spore and related games and programs to this list because they are and expanded version from city to global scale building. So I felt it would be interesting to include it here as it might open up some possibilities for new game finds and ideas. As some know, the final Spore game came out to be different from the 2005 video demo, so there is still untapped potential in the genre of biological simulation and global civilization building games. Related thread lists These game lists have been cross posted on related gaming forums: A list of ancient city builder games here, here, A list of modern city builder and global civilization builder games A list of fantasy and sci-fi rts and city builder games here, here, here So some options for new city builder games may be the following: - mod the existing games in some ways such as the many SimCity 4 mods for something different - research existing and past attempts at independent games that weren't completed and use some of the data if allowed and/or work on completing them - create new games independently from scratch which will take time if funds and talent is limited, but is certainly possible - it's up to gamers to post on various forums, social networks, and game mod websites to generate interest and potential collaborations - ideally an open source version of a city building game can be made where anyone can go in and mod it to add any historical time periods and civilizations or completely new settings, including ancient, medieval, pre-industrial, modern, post-industrial, alternate history, fantasy, scfi, alien, custom, any specific historical time/culture/location, etc.
