How to zone large lots

So, sometimes in my city, when I am trying to zone out a lot (mainly residential or commercial) and I drag my selection to do say a 2x4 block lot, it breaks up the way it faces and makes a road behind the lot.  Is there a way to zone 2x4 or 3x4 or 4x4 lots that face one way?  Or a patch to plop them like that?

Yes, several shortcuts on your keyboard lets you control both size and rotation of your zones.
