BTW, I'm shocked that SC4 can't run under Win-10 even in compatibility mode. I thought that compatibility meant having old drivers.

Well, I use Windows 10 Version 1607 on a test laptop and I need to say, that SC4 runs just fine in native mode. The installed version is a digital copy from Amazon I've purchased years ago. SC4 runs just fine with latest NAM, CAM and dozens of other mods and stuff installed, exactly like I use it on my regular old fashioned computer. Even SC4 related tools like the LotEditor, SC4PIM, iLive's Reader and other tools run just fine. Just have a little problem with the SC4Datpacker2008, but it did run before on Win10, so I know I just have to adjust a few things to make it work again.

Kind regards!

@rsc204 Thanks for giving me the rundown on the situation and what you think about it, it sure is enough of a situation that plenty of people have been ticked off by it, myself included. And to think, I still own 25 shares of Electronic Arts that I purchased back in 1998, hahaha! Frustratingly ironic. Anyway, quick question for you about you telling me to make a copy of my 'Plugins' and 'Regions' folders; after I make a copy of those folders, where do I put them for safekeeping until I get a new SC4? Do I need to put them in any particular area of my computer, like documents, photos, or even the desktop? Sorry, I already warned you I suck with computers. I know how to do the copying, just not the where the heck to put the folders thing. If you could let me know I'd greatly appreciate it. Once I figure that part out I'm going to go ahead and uninstall the Origin SC4 and buy a copy from GoG (which I never heard of and will Google out of curiosity, mostly of which concerns what their name stands for).

@CorinaMarie @philforhockey51, and anyone else who has helped and continues to help me with this issue, I give yous big time props, thanks for the solid help.

I'm looking forward to getting this bunk issue solved, and with the help from all of yous I'm almost there. *:)

GoG = Good old Games, they are one of the best digital retailers. But their anti-DRM stance means they don't sell newer games.

As for where to put the folders, it doesn't really matter provided they are no longer in the SimCity 4 folder. The key is that you know where they are and can find them again later. Think of your hard drive (data storage) as a filling cabinet, the folders within are to organise things.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Basically any of those locations will work. The important part is you remember where you put them. The only place to not put them is within the existing SimCity folder since that's the one that will get removed. Many, many peeps will suggest the Desktop and that works perfectly fine. I personally suggest a folder in Documents so as to not clutter up the desktop, but that's a preference of mine.

hahaha! I'm not sure where @rsc204 lives, maybe he or she has already had their morning caffeine or has had it many hours ago and their fingers were just a little more energized than yours.

It's actually interesting to see something explained by two different people, I like it, sometimes one person will say something that didn't make complete sense when the other person was trying to describe it. Although you both did great in explaining (my computer-deficient self understood), so you both get an internet cookie for your reward. Oh wait, internet cookie is a real thing that I think may be bunk to people that knows what it is (too lazy to Google right now), like spam or something. Switch that, you both get an internet brownie for your reward. That better not be an already established thing, cause I'm sending an actual brownie dessert that you eat through cyberspace, so if there is another thing called 'internet brownie' just ignore its existence and know that a delicious brownie is coming your way. You both better like brownies or I'm gonna be pissed. All this hard work of sending desserts through an electronic thingy, it ain't easy folks. Bon apetit.

    @Brooklyn81 Thanks! I like brownies. *:)

Btw, when you get your Gog version you will have a file that's prolly named: setup_simcity4_deluxe_2.1.0.9.exe and if you check its properties it'll show the size as: 1.02 GB (1,104,703,920 bytes). You really, really want to make an extra copy of this on some external media like a flash drive or two. This is so if anything happens to knock out your hard drive and the Gog site isn't available for some reason (for re-downloading) you will have the protection of still having a copy of it. If burning it to a DVD is your thing, that'll work too to have that spare, safety copy.

@CorinaMarie, thanks for the tip. I actually have a portable hard drive (I think that's the name for it), so I can use that, although I may have to bug you when I attempt that project as I only used the hard drive once to get some files off my old dying computer (R.I.P.) and that was like 9 months ago.

If it's like mine, it's a USB connection. You simply plug it in and you'll then see it in the File Explorer. *;)

    Spoiler

Mine are the Western Digital Passport external hard drives.

Good choice -- backing up to a separate physical drive can protect you against a breakdown of the original... if the backup hardware doesn't break in the mean time (and assuming you can figure out how and where to copy the backup into a replacement system).

If you're computer-phobic, I highly recommend recruiting a friend who can visit you once in a while to take care of non-emergency computer maintenance such as creating shortcuts, installing new software, doing backups, restoring something from the right (usually most recent) backup to where it needs to be. Offer something in return that your friend hates doing or can't do, such as trimming trees, pulling weeds, mending clothes, servicing a car etc (although cars are turning into rolling computers, so maybe that's a bad example).

@MissVanleiderDon't worry, I have a filter on my internet, it takes out the sugar without affecting the taste, so your brownie will be diabetic-friendly. @jeffryfisherI am familiar with the 'Like' button/feature on this site, I've doled them out more than the corner boys on my block do with dope, I'm not that computer illiterate, I do have MySpace ya know, so I keep up with the latest trends. Ok, the MySpace part was a joke. * On the other thing, mostly I can just call a friend on the phone and they can walk me through bunk/annoying/complicated computer jams, but if they have to come to my building I'll pay for their cab when they get here and hook 'em up with a beer while they fix the mess, but when they're done they gotta take the train back home, no round trip cab fare from this amigo, haha! @rsc204You seem to know what time it is on this site, why are the emoticons now on default to those sheep faces? Not a fan personally, and my lazy self doesn't like the extra mouse clicks I gotta do to get to the regs smiley faces and such. Any insight/inside knowledge on these tactics? Also, glad you're on board with the brownies.

@Brooklyn81 The 'sheep' faces are llamas. Llamas are a simcity meme since a very long time ago, and the Llama is the symbol of the 'Trixies' which are the Simtropolis versions of the Oscars. I think they are only going to be temporary but you can see the 'normal' faces if you scroll down a little further after clicking the 'smiley' button.

    PS. thanks for the brownie

And if you type the emoticons you can prefix the ones which turn into llamas with an * and then they will be the original ones. For instance:

    :) or *:)

    = :) or *:)

Yeah it's simply a Trixies thing, to add a bit of emphasis to the fact that it's Trixies season. They will probably revert to normal when it's all over and is intended to be a tribute to Maxis, who's games always had a weird affinity to Llamas of all creatures. Just look at the Tourist Trap in SC4, although examples are littered throughout Maxis games.

Can't believe I missed that one, llama makes sense, as I'm familiar with them being a staple in SC games. Although I'm not surprised I was mistaken, I haven't seen a large variety of wild animals where I live, unless you count rats, alley cats, and the occasional squirrel, haha!

Ok everybody, I'm gonna take the plunge and get the GoG version of SC4 and get rid of this garbage Origin version. I think I correctly saved/backed up my plugins and my region onto my portable hard drive, but who knows with me, I might've just unknowingly sabotaged my entire computer because that's the kinda relationship I have with these machines. Hope this will work out, and really hope I saved my plugins and my city/region the right way, haha. Wish me luck people. *:)

    Good luck!

(And take a look at the files you saved to your portable hard drive. Make sure they have extensions like .sc4 for the cities and .dat and others for the plugins. Most especially you do not want them to all end with .lnk which would mean only shortcuts to the files were saved.)
