The top ten cities by population are on the list, from www.emporis.com/en/ . All of them are major American cities, but which one is your favorite?

Okay, I have no idea what happened with this poll, but it seems to be unusable.  So, I'll just give the cities to pick from on this post:

        New York City
        Los Angeles
        Chicago
        Houston
        Philadelphia
        Phoenix
        San Diego
        San Antonio
        Dallas
        San Jose

my favorite is(yeah, you probably know what i'm going to type)Sacramento, because it's not w2w 70 story buildings. it's spread out a bit. unfortunately the skyline will soon be wrecked by an awful post-modern condo: i think it's called Aura. there is also some great art-deco downtown. but, aside from SacTown, i really like Atlanta's skyline. it's tall, but it's not like NYC or the Big Onion, where an 800 ft skyscraper is common. that's all i gotta' say...

Funny thing about DC is that it doesn't have a skyline to speak of. An ordinance was made in the 1900s that no building could be taller than US Capitol, so that cut off all high rises. Security reasons. The Wash.Mon. had already been built and they weren't going to tear it down, so those two are forever 1 and 2.

Yeah, DC got shafted in the highrise department, but it still is a beautiful city.  My vote goes to NYC.  It's just so massively huge.

But probably a more beautiful skyline is San Diego.

I'm pretty partial to San Diego's skyline. It lacks some of the super-tall buildings found in other major cities (because of that stinkin' airport), but its setting is second to none.

Once all the planned, approved, and under-construction buildings are added, it's going to be an even more amazing skyline - we're talking the Vancouver of the US.

Miami, by a long shot (even if it isn't on your list, the Miami metro region is, I believe, the 6th largest in the nation). Don't have any pics right now, but just try not enjoying the Miami skyline at night. Just try. (Of course, I've lived in Miami my whole life, so I may be a little biased....)

LOL San Jose may be the 10th largest city in America (population) but its skyline doesnt give it justice, and infact doesnt even reach the sky.
    BlackroadView14.jpg

San Jose is the youngest large city on the top 10 in size. When All those other cities were build (New York, LA, Philli) they all where built crowded together with tall buildings bunched together because the automobile was just getting started and transportation was still horses and such. By the time San Jose came around to be a big city the automobile had already been established as the main form of transportation not needing the cities to be tall and close together. Thus we find San Jose to be a huge spread out city of 1 million people over 177.7 sq mi. (interesting fact! San Jose was founded in 1777 see the relation in numbers? 2.gif ), the skyline less than daunting. However Iam sure that as the city gets more people, taller buildings will be built. but I dont think we will ever see it look as tight knit as we see the other skylines today.

Oh btw my favorite Skyline is probably SF. You can see it differently from every Angle. My favorite is coming over the bay bridge and seeing it slightly obscured by the lowlying mountains on the peninsula.

New York, definitely. Nothing on Earth beats the canyons of Manhattan, and no pictures do the experience justice. If you've never been to New York, I would really reccomend going there sometime. And most of it is a giant numbered grid, so there's no getting lost.48.gif

My vote is for Houston. Houston's skyline doesn't get the credit it deserves. If only it would actually grow...

Hey now dont get me wrong, San Jose is a huge city its just not tall.  As I said circumstances led it to look so far and spread out and not tall but it is by far the largest city in Northern California with a million people strong.  I just wish they got some skyscrapers.  Their downtown is nice to, just not tall.
