Upgrading to NAM 35

After upgrading an older version of NAM to version 35, I noticed some of the older pieces no longer have the darker texture I have used for a few years. One is the 45-degree angle piece for instance. So I have a couple of issues I hope someone will help me with.

1. Are there similar pieces in the NAM that can be used with the stock highways?

2. Where can I find tutorials on building highways with NAM?

I hope to learn how to use NAM for highways, etc. It just seems a bit overwhelming to someone who has used the stock pieces for years.

Thanks in advance,

Dick Wright

Lets see if I'm understanding:

1. the pieces you are looking for are asphalt Maxis Highways (instead of the concrete pieces of the vanilla game), yes? They are still on the NAM, but it could be that the checkbox wasn't marked. You could try to reinstall the NAM (without uninstalling it before!!) and get sure (the checkbox is almost at the end of the list, when choosing 'custom installation'). Also, the NAM adds pieces to the Maxis Highways, as another checkbox you have to check.

1.1. While you can stick with the MHW, there is also the option to override that network with the MHO (aka Project Symphony), that works in a very similar fashion but is fully compatible with the much more advanced Real Highway.

2. Tutorials for the Real Highway? It seems this youtube list could be handy. Or this couple of videos (1), (2) for a more advanced gameplay. The NAM documentation is also good, but is somehow lacking updates since NAM 32, particularly on respect to all the possible configuration for draggable RHW and RRW ramps.

As someone that was actively avoiding to use the RHW until just some months ago, I can say that the new draggable approach makes much more easy and less daunting to begin. Nevertheless, I would recommend you to make some tests on a flat and unused tile, instead of directly on your cities; to learn the simplest configurations first and then to try with more complex interchanges, and of course, to get feedback from the community!
