Rendering Problem: Region Generation Error Message

Problem, guys. I got that greyscale map of Trenton, NJ and I have it on my desktop as a .jpg and I ctrl shift alt R and load the file.

When it's finished creating the New Cities, I get a bit of a problem. EVERYTHING is ocean. (Though the terrain underneath the ocean is not entirely flat, meaning it did render something.)

Anyone know how to solve this?

Perhaps it needs a terrain height mod to raise it up. Anything in the instructions about having one in your plugins while rendering?

Edit: Do you mean this map (It's the only one that came up for me doing a search)? It doesn't have anything about a height mod, and when I tried it, it seemed to render OK. You might try to render it with nothing in your plugins. You might have something that's affecting it.

If it's not that particular map, you might post a link to the one you do have...

If you have a height mod in the plugins folder when rendering a map that doesn't use one, it will cause the map to render improperly.

The most common height mod is "import.dat".

This page really helped out. I finally got it to work and rendered a 2048x2048 map in 9 minutes 9.gif

Who can beat 9 minutes @ 2048x2048?? Don't lie....

G'Day,

Thanks for the tips. What I was doing was CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R and pointing straight to the JPEG file. Thus I was getting the error message (1025 x 1025).

What I did was to open the new region and I got an entirely flat region with the city boundaries that came with the config. Then I did CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R and pointed to the JPEG.

It worked.

Now that I am doing Greater Vancouver with one terrain mod, one water mod and one rock mod, and all large city tiles (about 200 of them), it has so far taken 2.5 hours to render.

Cheers.

Hi,

I'm still rendering the Greater Vancouver region (now 5 hours) with the terrain, water and rock mod along with files in the plugins.

This region is made up of about 200 large city tiles.

If I don't want the region because it is taking too long, should I minimise the game to desktop, delete the region and restart the computer, then restart the game?

Any tips?

What size does the Config.bmp need to be for an image of size 2049x2049? How about a 958x720 region?

2049x2049 should have a config file of 32x32.

958x720 is not a valid size for a grayscale.  The ratio of the grayscale.jpg to the config.bmp is 64 to 1, plus 1 pixel on each side.

i've got a problem while trying to render maps in game. I follow the usual instructions and after clicking the greyscale file, absolutely nothing happens. I checked out the greyscale file size and format and everything looks ok. The weird thing about it is that some maps work perfectly (I had no problem at all while trying to render this one for example). Any suggestion?

does anyone know what is that?

mountmckinley1316953143.png

the terrain is correctly rendered but both inside the city and in region wiew the game won't show some section of the maps, seems like everitying over a certain height got cut off from the top of each city-title, even pushing the mouse to move the windov over the northern part of it proves to be useless, the scroll just block itself in the same point where the region wiev cut the terrain... :boggle:

How much RAM do I need to render a region with a 44x56 config.bmp? 3.25GB isn't enough it seems...

This is what I tried to render. It did all but the two bottom rows. If it helps I cleaned out my system drive and now have 5.2GB of free space as opposed to 2.something from before. Will this help?

I have a problem with the size of the file. It says it should 2049 x 1793 but when I try to change it in either paint or InfranView I can't make it those exact dimensions. If it put it on 2049 the other automatically becomes 1791 (and not 1793 as it should be), any suggestions?
