Terrain Mod for Snow-capped Mountains?

Hey there!

So i'm looking fora good terrain mode that could show off at least SOME snow on top of my peaks, at least ones that aren't like gigantically high. I've tried the Columbus Terrain mod, but no snow appears on top of the mountains (am I missing dependencies/essential files?) and i've tried the Appalachian mod too and still no luck there.

I would appreciate some insight on this and some help! Thanks! :)

Did you get mod by Jeronij to get the Columbus Terrain mod snowcapped? https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=170 or https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=169

If you want to manipulate the Appalachian (or other more recent) terrain mod, you can check this tutorial

It explains how to set the snowheight as low as you want

Hey! thanks for the prompt reply.

Yes, that's where I downloaded the Columbus Terrain Mod and i'm pretty sure I followed all instructions, including setting the snowcapped to LOWER, but still nothing shows up. I even went to my mountainous areas and jacked up the height and still nothing appears.

I'll definitely give that tutorial a try though for the Appalachians!

    I did, yes!

In the end, the tutorial helped me out. The MaxTerrainHeight setting was at maximum and thus the caps would not show up. Lowering them, I now have beautiful snowcapped mountains! Thank you! :)

IIRC Gobias' two Terrain Mods (SV & BO) as well as Lowkee's Appalachian Terrain include Snowcaps. However, keep in mind that they are HD (meaning more resource intensive/hardware rendering only) and the snow looks more "realistic" which generally means that the textures are dirtier.

CP's versions are great in their terrain variety (under the snow line), but the snow is a bit unrealistically white. At the very least, if you can run them the HD ones (the three I mentioned above) are worth trying. All three are available on the LEX in the same place that you found the Columbus Terrain mod.

Whilst this is true... anyone with an even half-modern computer should have no troubles, providing you can run DirectX (hardware) rendering successfully. Of course, if you then add many HD trees, props, buildings and a few million sims into the mix, that's another matter altogether.

A forth way is TSC/Orange's Pyrenean terrain mod. But I'd certainly recommend that, Lowkees Appalachain or Gobias' Berner Oberland/Sudden Valley mods as the four best terrains out there. My favourite being Berner Oberland, although I tend to use Sudden Valley more.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.
