How to ID between day or night timed props

Hey all again

OK I'm making a lot and I'm at the point of tossing in some car/vehicle props in. I'm confused as to how do you determine if they're day or night? I notice most are timed but don't disappear at night or day but are on all the time. The names are somewhat informative but I can't figure out the timings. None of them mention when on and off only size, wealth class. There is a I guess ID number towards the end of the file name but not sure if that is what that is.

Also how do you make a lot larger than 6x6? I see a bunch out there but I can only manage a 6x6.

If you don't mind a small dependency, dispense with the default parking textures/props entirely, this is the best set out there:

Maxis never really took that much time labelling things, users were expected to work it out. If you looked up the prop exemplars in the SimCity_X.dats, you could find the timings. Otherwise, it'll take some trial/error to work out what times they will/won't appear.

SHK by comparison, grouped his props into groups using TZX names, representing the times they would show:

  • tz1 - 0600 - 1200
  • tz2 - 1200 - 1800
  • tz3 - 1800 - 0000
  • tz4 - 0000 - 0600
  • tzs - 0700 - 1900

So when lotting, they are much easier to use. The pack contains everything you might need for parking and IMO, better cars than Maxis provided too.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

thanks, At this time I'll be keeping this lot to myself as I'm up to when I include SHK to 6 depends. I've been trying to work it down but I can get it down to 3 but it just doesn't look good. When I started I was up to 12 depends and it was looking really nice but thought If I ever were to upload it everyone go berserk. So I got it down as far as I dare. 6 I think is a bit much for depends.

Oh by the way are those times set in stone? Can they be modded to be other times like 0800-1800?

You'd have to alter the Prop Time of Day property for a lot of prop exemplars, but it could be changed. I tried once to use Cohorts as a way around this problem, but it seems Cohorts don't work with Prop Exemplars :(.

As for whether you release your work or not, I wouldn't see the number of dependencies as a barrier. I use as many as I feel I need to make the lot the way I want. Not everyone agrees with this philosophy, but then not everyone has to download my work. Lotting is always an expression of the lotters tastes / style. I think these days many people prefer more detailed and high quality lots, even it that means a few dependencies. 6 is hardly a record by any means, especially when it's content like this which most serious players will already have.

While I'm here, I missed this (or forgot about it whilst answering the other thing)...

You need to change this using Reader in the LotConfiguration file, find the property LotSize. Just use decimals and you can increase the lot size to whatever you want. Don't try to change the lot size afterwards using LE, since that will mess it up.

I was a little leery about releasing it on the stex just for that reason, but I would agree with you that if they don't want to deal with the depends then they don't have to download. Like you said I do try to use the more common depends, so even if I have a lot it probably not be too bad for most, like you said most serious players will have most of them anyway.
