How Do I Make Single Tile Residential Develop?

Have played off an on over the years so I'm familiar with the game but have hit a roadblock with single-tile residential. I've been watching some YouTube videos of small farming towns with these single-tile residential homes but mine won't develop. I've tried everything but all I have in my town is a single two-tile house. Might anyone please tell me what's going on? (I've searched high and low on Google but nothing.)

I'm going to assume you're talking about 1x1 residential lots. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it has to do with growth stage, and that the game doesn't have any 1x1 residential lots at growth stage 1. So you have to develop the city a little before the 1x1 residentials can grow.

I'm not yet familiar with how to explain growth stages, but for me I've found you just need to pass a certain threshold of population (and I haven't ever paid enough attention to say what that threshold is). But, the 1x1 residential will grow at some point. Not too long into the game even playing and zoning slowly as I do.

Here's a sample neighborhood of mine:

The problem is related to the last few posts. The default game does not have an residential lots for growth stages 1-3 that are 1x1 in size. Therefore if you zone these, it is impossible for the simulator to grow them until your region is more developed and a higher growth stage is required.

1x1 lots are less chosen by the developer then you can zone a area with lots 1X2 counterpoints and then simply dezonear one side or pass a path on the beginning of the lots they automatically become one by one.

Or use the trick suggested by Corina placing a bus stop for an increase of temporary aura that makes development easier but not necessarily have to be only bus stop
