Formatting in old STEX entries

I downloaded a lot of stex sc4 buildings during the last days, I noticed that the old entries do not work with the bbcode formatting.

I know the whole site has been redesigned some time ago, is it the reaosn this formatting does not work anymore ?

 

On some buildings you can't see the pictures anymore (you must copy the url of the pics to see them)

The links aren't clickable anymore

The bold or color texts aren't working and worse, it makes things difficult to read. It is very annoying for dependencies or important instructions.

 

Is there an option somewhere to see these normally again ? Or can the site admins do some conversion to make this all ok again ?

 

Thanks for any tips or even for telling me I'm not the only one a bit bothered by this. After all, SImtropolis is the biggest SC4 archive, it's a bit sad if some old (and that old actually... from 2014 or end of 2013 I think) items aren't presented like they used to be.

The whole site (incl the STEX) has been redesigned (re-implemented I would say) quite a few times. As far as I can remember the STEX "Lot Description" has been implemented as plain text, rich text, html, bbcode and some special tagged format (eg <B>..</B>) data. And a mechanism for automatically batch-converting all these to the new format has not been provided. It is possible to go and fix maybe a few files, but how about when you have 36 uploads like me? (I don't rant, many creators have uploaded a lot more). It's just too much work to go and edit all these, esp if they contain tables and use formatting.

The links format changed as well, again without providing some mapping mechanism (which can be implemented in the site). There is no way to make the links work, other than searching the dependencies' names.

Quite a long time ago, the STEX had a nice and very useful feature (for both the uploader and the downloader), a flashing button was displayed every time a new comment was posted in any of my uploads, and I was transferred to the uploads list  - sorted by last comment's date/time - with a single click. Now we are not even getting a notification, so don't expect to get an answer if you post a comment in an upload (unless it is a recent one and the uploader does check it), better send the creator a PM or post. Very frustrating, and not motivating at all! I have repeatedly complained about this, but no solution has been provided, unfortunately...

Oh !! That's bad. As the site has a "notify me of replies" option, it seems easy to make it automatic for uploaders.

Yes, unfortunately this is present on quite a few existing STEX files, likely a result of the big update last year. Some files have 'broken' formatting, causing the download button to be pushed to the right side.

Others have BBCode which hasn't been parsed into HTML, which just shows raw in the description.

Usually re-saving fixes the formatting, and we've been doing that for those reported. The problem is, it's not clear how many are affected. Like cogeo said, it'd be ideal if this could be done in a batch process or something, without needing to manually update the files (and making it appear like the file has been changed).

Sorry to hear that.

Have you tried following a file using this button?

Depending on your notification settings, this should give you a popup when someone reviews or makes a comment to the file. In the current board software, a notification won't be received (for your own content) without enabling this.

As this isn't retrospective for existing files, you'd have to do this manually on each. However, if you'd like I can quickly set this up for you (or anyone else).

Inside the settings, you can also choose to auto-follow content you create. This can be done by enabling the Automatically follow new content I post option.

If this doesn't work properly, I'll mark it as a bug to be investigated.
