Nightlights with digital SC4

I bought SC4 Deluxe via download from Amazon.  The executable file is version 1.1.164.0.  Does this version require any of the patches?  Only asking because the lights at night do not appear on many of the bridges.  I tried some of the patches but received messages patches were not applied.  Thanks ahead of time for any assistance.

No need for patching, the digital versions have all the patches applied. Perhaps the bridges in question do not have nite lights, not all of them do. Also, for lights on transit networks, it's necessary to have zoning (or electricity, which is best accomplished this way). You might wonder how to zone in the water, but you can. Take the Res Low Wealth zoning (q) and drag from one tile parallel to the bridge, move the cursor to the other edge of the bridge, then drag out to the opposite side of the crossing. Hold CTRL whilst you do this, and let go of the mouse before CTRL. This creates a sort of fake-zoning. But, it can be used to carry electricity and/or place sidewalks where no zoning exists.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Also thought I'd mention that if I recall correctly, using the "fightthepower" cheat to satisfy power demand instead of doing it the legit way will cause blacked out cities at night as they are not technically supplied with electricity. Might help some people out.

If it really is 1,1,164 then you have a strange version indeed.  It should be 1,1,641.  Perhaps this is a typo?  641 version has all patches applied and has had the security system removed.  If night lights are not working on some plugin or other, then perhaps they don't have the night light textures applied by the builder.  It is not automatic, and the creator has to use the appropriate windows textures or nothing happens.

thanks everyone.  I will stop trying.  Nonny Moose, you are right.  Typo.  That is what I get for not wearing the bifocals.  I think these were the bridges that come with the NAM.  RSC204 hats off.  Could not get the zone to work like you described but I did install a power line from a residential zone to the bridge and that worked.  Yeeehaaaa.

Sounds like the bridges don't always have power. Goto the Data Views and click power, then look at the bridge. If the power view shows up as blue, it will need connecting up. If it's green any lights should then work. Power will actually cross rivers with bridges, but only if the bridge is connected to the grid.
