I downloaded that mod and it looks just gorgeous, but I seem to have some problem with the general terrain elevation, as there is snow at sea and river level, which looks, well, strange. I tested it with one of the maxis maps (good old San Francisco tiles), and... yep, strange. Is it me or the mod ? Has anyone tried it and encountered the same problem ?

If you just want snow on mountain tops, you'd be better off adjusting your terrain controller. There is a setting for the height of the snow-line you can adjust.

I'm not familiar with this mod, but it sounds like it's intended to be used exclusively for winter scenes, hence a full covering of snow? Can you perhaps give me a link to the mod, google, STEX and LEX searches and even TSC are not helping me to find this.

Check the mod description.  It might be for SimMars.

If one doesn't initially parse it out that the creator's username is Orange, it certainly does sound a bit . . . interplanetary.  It's too bad Frank Zappa isn't still around to record "Don't Eat The Orange Snow".

Assuming it's this rock mod, it's a simple texture replacement for the rock texture so any terrain that's steep enough to trigger it will have snow on it. From the description:

All rock textures will be changed to snowy rock textures regardless of the altitude.

If you just want snow on mountain tops, you'd be better off adjusting your terrain controller. There is a setting for the height of the snow-line you can adjust.

Snow is just another texture, so if the terrain mod in question has snow textures then yes, changing the max elevation will change the snowline accordingly. That said, terrain controllers do not have an inherent setting for the snowline.

Indeed, since every region is different, such settings need to be tailored to whatever map you are working upon. Assuming you've not moved on, weren't you using Lowkee's Appalachian terrain, in which case snow is certainly possible?

It's only a quick setting that needs adjusting in the reader, I'm happy to do it for you. The problem is working out at what height the snow should appear. Do you know how the terrain query "cheat" works? Find where you think snow should start and note the height using that, hopefully it wouldn't take more than a few attempts to get something you are happy with.

A member named Orange?  Is he in the Netherlands?  That's the name of the royal family.

Thanks, guys. I had read the FM:-),  but I guess I did not want this mod to get snow at sea level, Vortext, so I just... didn't see it. The mind is sometimes a frightening thing.

I have never tinkered with terrain elevation and have not the faintest idea how to proceed. Where do I go ? (the LE ?) What do I tweak ?

BTW, I believe Orange-the-batlotter is French (or maybe from Belgium)

You just need to modify some settings in your terrain files. It does require the reader to edit, but it's actually quite simple. Blunder posted all the terrain settings on a tutorial on SimPeg, I don't know if it exists elsewhere. I've just done a search on google which gives me a hit on the STEX, but right now I can't get that to work, could be maintenance-related?

I'm happy to do the modification for you, but I would need to know which terrain mod you are using. I'd also need to know at what height the snow should appear, see my previous post for info on how to see the height of terrain in-game.
