Problems with SimCity 3000 on Windows 10

I believe it'll sound familiar for someone. The same has happened on SimCity 4, fortunately we got digital edition from steam. Windows 10 seens to be totally ignoring SimCity 3000 and preventing it from running. The CD seems to be ok, it's simply the launch which won't start at all.

So, is there any remote chance for me to play the game of my childhood again? =)

Microsoft decided to disable (or not to implement for windows 10) the drivers that allowed some CD games to run.

If you have Windows 10, you will not be able to play SC3000. And since there is no digital version available...out of luck:cry:

I be pullin this thread up from ol' Davy Jones' Locker to let me fellow Win10 users know they need to set sail to what the fancy folk call "an undisclosed location."  Don't forget to be bringin' yer eyePATCH ye scalliwags.  City buildin' on Win10 is quite possible me mates!

Maybe?

GOG has got SimCity 2000 as an electronic download

https://www.gog.com/game/simcity_2000_special_edition

and SimCity 3000 is in the community wishlist with 7400 votes

https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/simcity_3000

No guarantee but if enough people vote for it, its possible it will be eventually be available on GOG

Good to know that Gog has an eye on SC3000.

I also read somewhere that there must be a way to manually implement the DRM drivers that Win10 is missing... and it would make SC3K and SC4 disc versions usable on win10 again. If I find more about it I'll report it here.

    I found this :

... A fourth option is also on the cards. This is more or less straightforward, but requires you to get your hands a bit dirty. It involves self-signing the SafeDisc driver so that Windows 10 will detect it as a trusted file. ...

And it's followed by an almost step by step description of what to do.

Don't use winblows 10. If unable to change OS, get Oracle VirtualBox and run windows 2000 or XP on it, then install SC3000. Note: Your CPU must be able to support Virtualization Instructions.

    Ahhh excellent. :D

The original and SC2K have been available, and I have SC4, but out of all of the SimCity games I've probably spent the most time on SC3K (or at least it feels that way, time flows differently when you're in middle school). Very fond memories and it'll be nice to be able to revisit it.

I run the original cd version of the original SimCity 3000 on windows 10. it doesnt autoplay but if you go to My Computer and right click on the drive that the cd is in, then click install or run program from your media, it will start up. Just confirm that you want it to run and shazam. Also might wanna run the resolution patcher that is on the web so you can view it better https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-SimCity-3000-Resolution-Patcher.  Another note is that a lot of these games used the old indeo codec for vid and sound. Windows 64 bit systems tend to put the 32 bit drivers in the syswow64 folder. All you have to do is copy them and paste them into the system 32 folder. copy from ir32_32.dll to irclass.dll. just copy and not cut and paste because 64 bit programs also use them.

It IS possible to run SimCity 3000 on Windows 10. *:)

I play it myself on Windows 10. At first it did not work, but suddenly it worked. No logic, no explanation here.

For some reason, Microsoft removed the feature of NTVDM so you there's no 16-bit support for programs. R.I.P. Try the solution that Togegawa made above my thread, see if that works.
