Elevated road over FLUP

Anyone know how to have elevated road/avenue/OWR cross flup??

I cannot find a piece for such connection. I am thinking it would help me build more compact intersections between highway and road network since the roads/OWR could cross each other before returning to ground level thus eliminating the need for the three to four tiles of height transition.

Any suggestions?

I don't think such pieces exist.  You'll have to get creative with tunnels, I suspect.  Probably have to terraform the embankment, put in the tunnel and try to get the road on top.  The embankment will have to be at least three grids thick, I think.  To get back to the full god mode to do this hold down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and click on the god icon.  Do lots of saves.  Terraforming like this often causes earthquakes.

Firstly, such pieces indeed do not exist, since intersections for the viaducts do, it's a little redundant. Bear in mind Road, OWR and AVE can run under elevated roads, so why the need for the FLUPs?

It would help to see a diagram of what you intend to make here, also to know what Highway network (Maxis/MHO or RHW) you wish to apply this to. Although I suspect as Nonny has eluded to, tunnels, or more useful probably road-subway connectors (not included in the NAM) would be the answer.

    Thanks for the feedback.

What I am trying is to cross the lanes before they emerge so that the tiles used for transition can be parallel to the highway thus saving space.

I think that could be better archieved using RHW pieces, particularly flexfly overpasses with different height (7.5 m and 15 m, or L1 and L2).

If you still want to do it with road overpasses, remember that you also could do it with different heights, easing the crossing with a L1 x L2 viaduct road, a piece that already exists.

Anyway, that's not the standard way to do T interchanges, specially because the cars should brake strongly before taking the 90° curve, creating traffic jams and even accidents.

What is more, you can also do a trumpet interchange, which crosses the highway once, and splits on the other side. This is my humble trying on this (there are way better versions on the forum)

Yes, it uses a huge right-of-way, but if the crossing way is not a high speed one, it is reasonable to use a less curved geometry

If you want a simple compact diamond for RHW, here are two ways to go about it:

    35572390584_960594e5f6_o.jpg

Option 1: Easy, use 4 flex pieces from the draggable road viaducts (L1), two ramps and two starters. Combine with 4 Quickchange pieces (Ramp + Height Transition). Drag road/RHW to complete the intersection.

    36407536165_d0a5dfb7df_o.jpg

Option 2: More complicated. Use Road Overpass puzzle pieces, the Road/EMIS Intersection is in the same menu where the RHW crossings appear. The MIS height transitions are starterless, which will be fine when used with FlexRamps from the RHW, otherwise you'll need another tile each side of the height transition. With this solution, you could switch the end Road/EMIS intersection with a Road/OWR T-End piece included with the road overpasses if the road was not continuing the other side of the highway. Although because it transitions to OWR, the connections with RHW-2 will look a lot better if you continue the road containing the overpass onwards.

I am still working my way through the menu and I haven't tried the flexfly yet, which might offer a better solution. It just puzzled me that there are no way of making an underpass under an elevated road/viaduct.

A setup with the lanes crossing like this seems like a compact way of connecting to a highway without the interference of an intersection. The diamond is compact but it has an intersection on the viaduct.

One thing to remember is that this is not a 3D system.  It is 2.5D (orthographic projection) and as a matter of simple fact, a grid square can only contain a single image.  Under the circumstances, you must either make the image you need, or find a work around.

The FlexFly provides a much better solution, by running the highway at L1 and the flexfly and flexcurve above and below.

    Thanks again for the feedback.

Here is an image, it is a bit sloppy though and could be more compact.

That's really better. Just keep in mind that the MIS roads shouldn't join on just another MIS, but in a RHW-4 in each side, keeping the number of lanes and avoiding colissions. There is a ramp (I think is E-type) that joins or splits an RHW-4 into a pair of parallel MIS. What is more, you can also transform the pair of RHW-4 into a Maxis Highway or Avenue.

I noticed you put the two FlexFlys in such a way that they're overlapping one another. Unfortunately, you can't do that; they won't function correctly. (apparently it takes 50,000 lines of code to get such a setup to work) You'll have to get creative and position those two FlexFlys such that they're not overlapping one another.

What you could do is something like this:

    BhUC5cw.jpg

This interchange still maintains a reasonable level of compactness, but avoids having the FlexFlys go on top of each other. Note that I am using a newer version of the NAM than what you have; it's NAM 33. It's just in pre-release form right now (but more stable than NAM 32) and you can download it here (https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=851 ), but I'd recommend getting the hang of NAM 32 first before diving into a new NAM version.
