Welcome to the City of New Rotterdam. This is the cover page for this city journal. New Rotterdam is situated in a magnificent setting of bays, coves, rivers, and islands.

This is the second update of my New Rotterdam city journal.

I'd like to showcase the River East Industrial Area (REIA). First, a general aerial look at the area.

    fylemxc.jpg

REIA sits immediately across the riverway to the east of the Metro core. From REIA, you can actually see a bit of the downtown skyline and the expanse of land and water.

REIA is intended to be a green industrial area, with many trees that give people a sense of natural beauty. In particular, one planning strategy is to line up main corridor roads with a thick layer of trees, as show in the images here. People passing through REIA may not necessarily see the bare industrial settings; instead, they are surrounded by trees that make the main roads quite pleasant.

    eYvwKnl.jpg

Zoning is avoided along main corridors as they primarily get people from and to places. This is to avoid traffic that may clog up the main corridors.

Using a real Rotterdam area height map I see? Looking forward to what you're going to do with it.

The skyline shot of your industrial area must be what Rotterdam's industrial area's looked like in the 60's and 70's :D You're polluting the hell out of it, which is rather realistic :D

    Update!

Today I'm going to update with the Rotterdam Commons area, adjacent to the CBD.

First, there is a pedestrian trail system being developed right in the heart of the city. The long-term plan is to offer a "green belt" for pedestrians, even linking multiple parks. The picture below shows the first stretch of such a trail system. The trail is serene, lined up by tall green trees that form a canopy. It is accessible to the backyard of many urban residents. People can just walk out of their building and get on the trail without having to deal with traffic.

    U21EOZm.jpg

Not far from this stretch of trail is the Rotterdam Commons, the oldest park in the city.

    qRfpnW2.jpg

The Commons Circle is a beautiful intersection linking an old neighborhood with the CBD.

Those parks and roads in the game are awesome. Also, it's a nice city, with the best name!

    Feyenoord FTW! :P

Very lush with all those trees lining the roads and that footpath! I can't wait for the next update and maybe even more pictures?

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

Folks, more update about the Rotterdam Commons area. Exciting!

First, a first-person view of the tree-canopied trail. Isn't it beautiful!

    ZiJM4ld.jpg

Next to the Rotterdam Commons is the city's oldest church, the Rotterdam Cathedral.

    xk5VWRp.jpg

Behind the Rotterdam Cathedral is a labyrinth of old-town streets. A beautiful small fountain park attracts many residents and visitors. It is such a leafy oasis in the heart of New Rotterdam.

    pFj431Q.jpg

Continuing with this update, the surrounding area of the Cathedral.

First, imagine chilling out on the roof top condos with such a fantastic view.

    VUtNn4o.jpg

And, behind the Cathedral, the streets are interesting and there are cute corners all over.

    9mNNv51.jpg

What do you think? Would you live around the Rotterdam Commons and Cathedral area? Keep in mind that it is one of the most hip and gentrified areas, where prices are going through the roof. That simple condo with a roof top veranda will cost you at least half a million for a small one bedroom, oh, and without parking at all. But be sure to know that you are amongst some of the trendiest night clubs, cafes, bookstores, and cultural venues within walking distance, if not a stone's throw away.

Yet more really good pictures. Also to make the most of the first-person camera, here is the HideUI mod to get rid of that pesky UI while roaming around with the camera.

Isn't there a button in the UI that hides the UI if you click it?

This city is so green and beautiful! Can't wait to see more!

I love cities that have natural beauty. New Rotterdam is actually a highly dense city, but I give a special emphasis on making the city green when possible. I will have more updates that will showcase even more amazing green areas. Stay tune!

Today's update is the Civic Circle, a six-lane one-way roundabout that has witnessed the city's history nearly from the beginning. Civic Circle is where the city hall, the courthouse, and the NRPD are located at. To the south is the Central Business District/Downtown, to the north is uptown, and to the west is the Cathedral Commons and Dutch Village.

First, the Civic Circle roundabout features trees that form the word "Civic."

    vZKGKPz.jpg

The Courthouse is majestic, with its orange roof and white dome. Purple flower bushes surround the courthouse.

    26DZtlU.jpg

Another close-up view of the front of the Courthouse.

    EUAEkBf.jpg

The New Rotterdam Police Department headquarters is not far from the Civic Circle.

    UPVGBwO.jpg

Looking toward the CBD from the NRPD.

    iCjX5q0.jpg

The Pillars of the Courthouse, the nearby green park, and the CBD skyline. What a beautiful place.

    9P0iZDO.jpg

Here this is a special view of the orange roof, the pillars, and the front fountain plaza.

    x0KDYbr.jpg

From this angle looking west, you can see the Rotterdam Cathedral and a bit of Midtown, which I will showcase in a future update. GVbIl4M.jpg

Folks, I hope you enjoy the Civic Circle images and the City of New Rotterdam. NR is doing very well and growing tremendously. There will be many more updates!

Today we are back at the Rotterdam Commons area. Just to the west of the Commons area is Dutch Village, one of the oldest and the most hipster places. Dutch Village was the original settlement, hence the Rotterdam Cathedral, the Commons park, etc. Today Dutch Village is a vibrant and eclectic neighborhood that is full of the city's best clubs, bars, eateries, rooftop cafes, and bookstores. Buildings here tend to be older and lower. There is a high-rise ban in the Dutch Village, to preserve its character.

In many parts of the Village, you can see the Cathedral.zFdIraF.jpg

Streets here and narrow, with tall trees and flower bushes that make it fantastic for living and strolling.

    8wU5Szy.jpg

Outdoor eateries are everywhere in the Village.

    FMgVr8F.jpg

Rooftop eateries are another one of the favorite places in the city. Great views of the bay. Listen to the waves, the laughter, the music, and the cathedral bell. Dang, Dang, Dang, and the waves of the bay hug the shoreline and shines under the afternoon sun. Take a stroll along the Village's bay front. Or hop on a bus to Midtown for the hassle and bustle. qSpFdhM.jpg

An elevated expressway runs through the city. While the traffic is busy, the Village is quiet and relaxing.

Those powerlines in the airport update appear to be dangerously close to the airport. Another plane crash today wouldn not be liked very much!

    Nice updates!

I ran powerlines across the runway at first. Planes went through them fine. HAHA.

For today's update, first let's look at a region view of New Rotterdam.

    14MJnH7.jpg

I love the peninsulas and bays. There will be many creative use of them, as the city expands and mods are added.

Here is a traffic map of the city. You can see the Civic Circle that serves as the boundary between downtown and the rest. The city enjoys very smooth traffic; most traffic jams happen in the industrial area in the river east.

    ALHOnQ3.jpg?1

To allow high-density development such as those in Tokyo and Seoul, the expressways are constructed along or on the river to avoid using historical and high-density areas.

    BXpMcPc.jpg

Landing airplanes have a great view of a large interchange.
