Luck. The game's tiles are divided into two triangles, which puts a diagonal edge down the middle of each tile. All tiles in each city have the same triangle orientation. Therefore, you can create diagonal coastlines one way, but not the other way.

The city looks great, but one problem. The north branch of the Chicago River doesn't go west like how you have it. You might want to look over a few maps.

I can vouch for the fact that Chicago is really that griddy - it's mind boggling when you fly into O'Hare. 6.gif Hey, I can see my mom's house from here! Great journal. 44.gif

God, it is huge! But is the whole region in real life really that griddy?
    quote>

So far almost everything shown is the city itself, which is very consistently gridded. The surrounding suburbs are a different story. A person could be lost for weeks in the winding maze of residential areas that is Naperville :P

yeah... funny story, I've been lost in that maze before :-)

You need a GPS locator just to get out of south Naperville (and the ironic thing is that most of the people there can afford it. Hmm...)

Just to clarify, the image I posted is not from this CJ, It is from my old Chicago region which is now lost. It is just to show how the rivers should look. I will link to it if Afuegosky wants me too.

And yes, Chicago is one giant grid. Suburbs are very hard to do in SC4 as you can't built on diagonals they way you do in real life.

That arial picture sure does resemble how the chicago grid is layed out, too bad u lost it Sir Gawain
Now as far as the city is going , is getting really hard to develop the river north neighborhood, i'm trying to pack the area with hundreds of skyscraper just like the real thing but i keep getting major abandonment once they get built, however is possible i guess i just need a lot of time and patience!
Now I have a challenge for someone, as we all (chicagoans)know the when u enter downtown chicago through the 290 expressway and u get to State St and Congress you get to see the beutifull Harold Washington Library ,the most stunning building i've ever seen, so I want to be able to have it in the game but I dont have the time to play around the BAT so if one of the member here in simtropolis takes on the challenge of making it I would greatly appreciate it, and wouldnt be kool to have a extra library in the game to show off in ur downtown!
here is the pic of the library

Hey, looks great. But a little out of date - you need to put the new Millennium Park in. The bandshell and the Wrigley Peristyle are on the exchange someplace....

That's a great looking city. Why didn't you come up earlier with this? You must have been working hours to get so far...

    Wow that looks excellent!

I may never have been to Chicago, but after playing Driver 2 for years I feel I know the city like the back of my hand.

I remember getting stuck in that same park area you posted a hundred times.

I't looks so realistic or at least compared to Driver 2.

    Great work!
