wow, thanks everybody for such a great response! didn't think these apts would get that many comments just over night lol, i guess my recreating real life bats is getting better 1.gif

well, in real life since these are in downtown portland, run about $1000 /mo for a two bedroom 1000 sq ft apartment. so that seems more around R$$, but it does looks like R$ too, so i'll most likely make both versions and let you guys pic which ones you want.

here is the other side to them:

thanks colbysohl and Andreas Roth!

Andreas Roth, you're right, there arn't enough residential bat buildings out there. especially low/medium wealth res! frogface has put out lots of good ones though.

Yea, there's really no such thing as an R$ highrise in Portland, unless you count some of the student housing buildings in the Goose Hollow area. Even the income restricted buildings run upwards of $700/mo for a 450sf 1br.

thanks yochillout! sparky has also been bating portland buildings, he's doing a great job too...

EchoOfGecko, that's right, but since people want R$ sky scrapers i'll make an R$ version, and a R$$ version. nice sig btw! i'd addopt something like that, but i like to keep politics out of ST, plus my sig is too pretty right now to have a terrorist on it 18.gif

WOW! I was wondering when we'd ever get to Portland Center! Those are quite the dominant feature south of downtown. Besides, Portland Plaza would just be all lonely w/o them! Great job JtPortland!

Good luck with the job JtPortland! I thought of working thru school, and found it to be an insane proposition. Zilfondel would agree heh. You're doing good by working during terms you have off. :)

Sorry I haven't been posting stuff. Been busy as usual, and am dealing with the meltdown my computer had on Sunday... Oh joy! 26.gif

There's some bad news that comes along with my computer going down. However there is good news that I hope brings me some comfort... I need it!

Anyways, basicly, my videocard freaked out and triggered a blue screen of death everytime I tried to get into Windows. So, I had to re-install Windows twice, which ended up destroying all my files! So, two years worth of photography and BAT stuff is *poof* gone... I'm basicly out of commission for a bit..

The good news is that I can get this thing to work now (except with Windows Media Player and 3d programs/games). I'm finally going to get rid of the POS Taiwanese garbage that passes itself off as my video card, and get a brand new one! Also, I'm going to go out and get a ton of memory (hopefully a whole gig). So Jt, I may not have to have you export stuff anymore. GMax will probably work better now!

Also, I did manage to back up a bunch of stuff, but nothing from within the last few months 7.gif . So I may be able to salvage what I had, but I prefer to start all that stuff completely over, provided I have time...

Hopefully tomorrow, I'll pick up the new memory and video card. The junk I'm ripping out of the computer is pretty old, so this update is a good and needed thing.

Sorry for venting. It's been a rough couple days... I really need this time before school starts to get any big creative projects done. Once I'm back up to speed, I'm putting Union Station on permanent hold and starting all over on Waddle's again (haven't looked at the Made in Oregon sign yet, sorry Jt). I got an interesting IM with suggestions. Some of them are smaller in scale and would be easy to model in small amount of time, so I'm considering scaling down the scope of my contributions. Smaller buildings would take less time for me to make. Jt, you're handling the bigger projects awesome, so I really don't have to worry about something signifigant not being in there... heh

thanks Andreas lol, you might want to use some windex for that...

hey sparky! i've been wondering where you've been for the past few days.. glad you like the Portland cental apts. that really sucks that you lost everything! computers can be a pain sometimes. good luck on starting over! haha,

do you have any small project in mind? or will you just start over on waddles and union station?

im not sure what i'll make next... but i believe that Portland is #1 on most bated buildings! that'd be cool if someone kept tabs number of buildings from what cities...

anyways... im off to make center apt growables...yay!

hey jt, sorry if this has already been discussed, but i cant seem to get your Made in Oregon building to work properly. I downloaded the two files from simcity.com (bldgprops) and placed them in my .../Program Files/Maxis/Sc4/plugins folder but i still only get the sign (and no bldg).

Am i doing something wrong here?

Also, r u going to release Memorial Coliseum? and nice job on the Portland Center Apts!

These buildings look excellent. When you release them, what city type will you put them under? Your mimicry of the real structure is flawless. Nice job!

portlandexpos04, ok, so you have both of the building as props right? did you demolish the lot, and then re-plop it after the props were instaled?

thanks StarbuckSim! im not sure what style i put the Center apartments as.

SUICO, thanks! i guess these apartments look like they are from everywhere. that's great! hehe

Well, as soon as I get that new video card, I'll be back up to speed... That's later on today between wrapping up things here at PSU and catching the Nutcracker at Civic Auditorium...

Speaking of the Civic/Keller, it looks pretty simple. I may make it as an opera house...

The sort of projects I am thinking of are things that don't take a lot of work to figure out how to model, and are simple to put together and export. I'm going to have very little time to do anything BAT once winter term starts, so I'm just thinking ahead.. Some ideas that were sent to me:

Nona Emilia's, an Italian restruant in Beaverton. It has a uniqie building...

    The Jim Fischer Volvo building

    And 2 of my own

    Keller Auditorium (formerly Civic Auditorium)

The old 7-up sign building (it's shaped like a bunch of stacked cylinders and has a neon budweiser sign on it now. You can really see it on I-84 near Sandy Blvd.)

Just small stuff like that, nothing too big or with a ton of detail. If they have noen lights, I'll probably have to geet Jt to do them, as I won't be able to spend too much time on this stuff soon. I really want to keep BATing and will try to, but my architecture major comes first... This way, hopefully I can continue to contribute without worrying about my studies (or vice versa).

Union Station and Waddle's, as projects I am actively persuing, are dead for the time being. I lost a lot of recent work on them and I'm not going to have time to finish them. The soonest I see I could get back on projects that big is next year, and they could have a new Sim City out by then (you never know!)! Jt, if you want to pick them up, I can help out with details and advise on modeling. My photos of these buildings survived on my laptop, and I've photographed them both pretty extensively.

Well, talk to y'all later and be back up and running on my home comp.

Hey JTPortland: I really, really LOVE your BATs!! But I'm curious about something. I downloaded One Main Place a couple days ago. I noticed that there are FOUR icons for it in my landmarks menu. (One of them is even listed as Nordstrom's although I know it isn't Nordstrom, because I have that BAT too!)

Is there any way of taking two (or even three) of those out?? I'm sure it has to do with the .desc or .lot files, but I'm not yet a pro in BAT and don't for sure.

This isn't a criticism at all! I think your lots ROCK. But I'm just curious if there's anything I can do about it. Thank you!

sparky, i have been using part of the Lincoln center as keller auditorium. they look pretty similar, except that the Lincoln center is a lot bigger than keller!

thanks nofunk! also thanks for informing me on this problem, this is very strange! since there is only 3 lot files in the download, which lots did you download? all three? plop w/ jobs, landmark and growable are provided. if you didn't want all three, make sure the desc goes with the one you wanted.

as for it being called nordstrom's i do believe i know why this is. and i thought that i had changed it in ilive, but i guess it didn't work.

as soon as i can pinpoint the problem i will change it after the holidays, i'll be out of town for the next few days!

    happy holidays everyone!

...since it is almost christmas...i'll leave you guys with a little present of a preview of the largest mall in Oregon:

Droooooool25.gif25.gifanyways you also have something simular to the Nordstom's thing on One Main Place, except that it's on Kinzie Tower. One of the towers has the name of the very tall building you made in pda, just wanted to tell you that, and have a very Merry Christmas35.gif40.gif

^I had the same problem; even re-downloaded like you. I decided just to pick a couple of buildings from the NY office and Chicago office sets just for my own use - it took a bit of doing getting the right height and look) but it's worth it in the end.
