Well, I'm back and have some progress to report. I've still been working on stuff, but the time to do BAT stuff will be very limited as I return to university next month. So I'll try to have everything in the cooker out and ready soon!

Here's the list and the status:

1000 Broadway: I got it all done, but there were problems rendering it. It took me nearly a day to export it, and it came out all whacky. JtPortland's taking a look at it and is exporting it right now. Once it's rendered, I'll tweak with it and release it.

Previous BATs posted here: I will re-post them, but I'm going to tweak some capacities in iLive first. Sorry for taking them down, but they will be back and better suited for your cities.

Portland Plaza: I'm still evaluating whether or not to re-texture it. There's probably no way to make a R plop, so there'll be a static landmark, R$$ and R$$$ versions only.

Waddle's Diner: With modeling done on everything else, I've picked up this project again. I have it all in GMax now. All that is really needed is to light it up, texture it, and model whatever associated props I want into the scene (cars, parking lot, bushes, lights).

Union Station: Portland's grand train station will be next after everything else above is done. I have a very complex model of the clock tower completed (with tons of polys), but the rest of the building remains to be done. I figure this will be a long-term project, as I probably won't get it done before winter term starts up again. Also I have to learn how to transit-enable lots. There's a steep learning curve to this old building, as I haven't really yet tried to tackle more detailed, older buildings. I needed a challenge anyway...

I'm not at home at this time, so no pics right now. I'll post pics if anyone is interested late tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back. Sorry about the delay for the 1000 Broadway pics. I had a lot to do, since Thursday was my b-day and I'm running around town constantly to get things together for winter term at PSU (and make sure it's done on their end). And it's only going to get crazier! As if I'm not busy enough... Hey, at least I'll never be bored!

I took a look at 1000 Broadway in-game, and took these screens:

    1000bwy-z5.jpg

This is at Zoom 4. You can see the dome's detail really good here.
    (Photo-bucket re-sized this, so that's why it's not big)

    1000bwy3nite.jpg

Here's a nite shot at zoom 3. The dome's not the way I'd like it, but it works. I spend most of my game-time in zoom 3, so this is a mixed bag. Looks good up close, but so-so farther away...

There's also a tiny sliver of the parking garage lost. It's not really noticable in the outer zooms. I can't speak for Jt, but I for one can't afford to have the computer tied up a whole day to fix it, unless there is a good enough mandate to do it. I can live with it for now, if everyone else can.

Now I got to figure out how to change the # of jobs in iLive. Anyone know a good tutorial on ST for that?

Thanks JtPortland for rendering this and figuring out why it wouldn't go thru!

    Now on to other tasks:

Waddle's: I ran several renders of the diner thru at scale. Unfortuneately, it's too detailed. The neon tubes aren't the way I'd like them, so it's back into Rhino for them! The signs are going to be much, much simpler. It was a bit ambitious of me to make it so you could actually see each individual neon tube making up the classic sign. Still I'll keep trying!

Old BATs rehab project: I've finally tracked down where everything is on my computer and will be tweaking them to perfection in iLive simultaneously while working on 1000 B-way's specs.

Union Station: Won't probably have to go through the scrutiny Waddle's is getting, as I haven't finished modeling it. I haven't made the neon lights for it (Go By Train and Union Station signs on the clock tower). I'll probably end up making them solid letters with borders. Waddle's is pretty-much my first foray into neon lighting, and a fun way to learn! Too bad that BAT doesn't support the detail I plan for these... but there's ways around that.

Well, gotta go! Off to a jazz performance to relax...

It's the Demand Created/Satisfied property. It contains pairs of values. The first value in each pair (and thus all odd-numbered reps) is the Demand ID. This roughly is Type of Job. The second value is the number or jobs. SG's plop tutorial contains a spreadsheet with the different demand IDs.

Awesome job on the 1000 Broadway building, sparky.

So you're actually going to PSU, eh? Cool. Still set on the architecture program?

As a 2nd year arch student, might have some advice for ya. 44.gif

Anyway, you have about 5 weeks...enjoy it while you can! 7.gif

Yup Zilfondel, I'm still doing the arch program. Now that I stopped wasting time getting wasted, I hope I can apply myself better. It was a battle just to get myself to get admitted! I got in the Design Studio and Basic Drawing classes, but am having trouble filling the rest of the schedule as those two are really tough to schedule around. I need just 2 more credits (I think) for full-time status. Any advice? It's good to hear from you again.

So is everyone ready for 1000 Broadway? I got the jobs added for a plopable version. Spent all day yesterday figuring it out and testing it over and over again. Thanks Arcadelia for the advice and directions to Sim Goober's tutorial! Everything should work, so....

    Without further ado....

    *RELEASED!!!!!*

Please feel free to PM or post here any bugs you may find, as this is my first real attempt at Modding...

    Next task, Portland Plaza (finally)....

Also, I'm going to try to figure out how to mod a lot with CO jobs and bus capacity in order to make a very functional Congress Center and US Bancorp Tower complex... Plus a quick update to the Portland Transit Mall is in the works.

    Thanks everyone!

As for the other projects, I was just thinking a bit ago that it may be a harder road to making a functional Commercial Office/Bus stop lot than I thought. There's a weird thing with parent cohorts (a bunch of hex values which determine lot type and wealth). They have to match up with a query property (hex values for R, C, I, parks, etc..). I could move the CO$$/CO$$$ properties over to a bus stop (or vice-versa), but would they work? The only time I'd seen a transit/CO lot work was Rubick3's WTC. And those are DAT files. Something I don't know how to make and am afraid to mess with as DAT files are VERY important to the game. I'll research it, as I may be able to base it off a landmark-as-subway stop type thing.

Can this be done? Or should I just make seperate CO and bus stop-only lots?

Now to figure out what to do with Big Pink (US Bancorp Tower-complex Version) and Congress Center. It may be a couple of days for those, as I'm busy again this weekend. After I get those done, I'm all caught up and can get cracking on Waddle's again...

I'll look thru my files and see if I have any screens of how Waddles turned out. The signs look like hell, so I gotta go back to square one and hand-draw them again. 7.gif

I hope I can get it done before school starts. From what Zilfondel tells me, it'll be years before I can do large-scale BAT stuff again! heheh

So, I have confidence that Sparky and jt will continue to work together to create EXCELLENT BAT files and so much more. Thank you both, and keep up the good work.
