Not sure if this is being worked on or if it is even possible, but it would be great if we (meaning all of you genius modders, because I have no clue how) could develop an agriculture mod. It would be a specialization mod much like coal, oil, etc. or not. If possible, the agriculture would rely on a nutrient deposit or water deposit. This would allow us to build small farming towns or villages (with German add-on) in some of our larger regions so we aren't building the same things over and over in those regions. I miss the agricultural towns of SC4. What do you guys think? Is it possible?

Agriculture was one of the specializations that was proposed but got cut from the final game. There were supposed to be fishing wharves, farms, and ranches all producing various resources (fish, grain, livestock, fruit) that would then need to be sent to a food processing plant. Timber was another one that was cut. The actual forests you see in the game now would be harvested and processed at sawmills and paper mills to make paper, books, toys, furniture, etc. That specialization was also sadly scrapped during development. I would love to see a DLC or Expansion to include that, as I don't know how far that would get with modding.

So it was cut huh.There was just not enough room for it with 2k boundry glassbox engine in it's current release state. Maxis would of have to rewrite the game limits.

 

But orion mod changed that and now there can be room for agriculture.

No, space was not a problem. People fill their entire city plots with electronics, so why couldn't people do it with agriculturew as a matter of implementation.  They actually never even started on agriculture. The trees on the map were supposed to be used as lumber for a new specialization, but, According to Xoxde101, Quality Assurance cut the extra specializations and mechanics from the game because QA determines the maximum costs for parts of a game, and Maxis exceeded heavily. :)
