The morality of using super demand mod?

I'm starting a new region and I thought, why not speed the game along by using the super demand mod. So I downloaded it and for trial I opened an existing region. And BOOM, I am getting a zillion new buildings all at once!

so my question is, does this not defeat the purpose of the game, and the challenge in it, of creating desirable cities?

I would recommend against using demand mods.  They mess with a fundamental aspect of the game and may have undesirable effects.

Also, I agree with you that it defeats the fun and challenge of the game.

I agree.  Demand mods skew the game's algorithms badly and makes it a different game altogether.  I suggest you drop it, and I hope you have a backup for the city you affected.

I didn't save that city. I watched it grow at regular speed. then I put it into hyper speed. It grows aweful looking cities. so I just exited without saving.

I do want to apologize to the creator of demand mods and their fans. I didn't mean to make it sound bad, and I'm not passing judgement on you for using it and creating it. It just felt wrong to me and that's all I'm saying. It isn't "morality" but I'm having a brain cramp day and can't think of a better word.

The main problem with them is that they create demand for buildings that don't necessarily have occupants, leading to the Dubai effect: mass abandonment if removed, and very undesirable effects if left in. Even if the challenge of the game doesn't appeal to you the fundamental altering of game workings is bad enough to recommend against them.

I think demand mods are good only for the inpatient players and those who want to make specatacular cities for CJs.

This is a simulation game, and using mods that nail demand to the top makes it completely unchallenging and destroys the concept of simulation (you are sure that if you zone you will definitely get development). Instead I really find that the game is actually too easy as is, so I have made mods that make the game harder (eg no start-up funds, only loans), and posed restrictions on gameplay. And I have experimented with regions without industy or farms, and this indeed works, only growth is slower initially. I really like the demand/growth cycle: CO->R->CS->R. This howevwe only works when you have full educational coverage (even for R$) beause CO demand is the "driver" here, and CO demand requires a highly educated workforce.

The driver in this game seems to be the same as the RL driver of the California demographic of the late 20th century.  Authors and programmers write what they know.  If you appreciate this and suspend your disbelief, it will help with play.  The R ethic seems to be single wage earner, one or two kids.

I used to derive great satisfaction from mastering the simulation. But now I consider SC4 and my 4.55GB worth of plugins as a massive art tool. I want to create cities to take pretty pictures and functionality be damned! Having said that I don't use demand mods because I use the CAM which is incompatible with demand mods.

Besides their is no 'morality' to using the SC4 simulation. You are God. You are above morality.

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage
