How to delete account?

For certain reasons, I need to delete my account, not sure how.

I'm afraid there isn't an option to self-delete your account.

 

You could send a request to an Admin. But usually, accounts aren't deleted because it can create more problems than otherwise leaving them inactive.

Unless they can somehow be preserved, deleting posts would also make threads difficult to follow (the author is replaced by a generic "deleted" profile).

Yeah, deleting accounts on a forum makes a mess and it didn't used to be something anyone would think about. Facebook has given people bad habits on this matter.

 

If you're concerned about someone finding your account here when they Google your name... well, when I do it it doesn't show up. It's not even on page 2! So I wouldn't worry about that too much.

it is true.  The nature of the database is such that deleting an account no matter how historically inactive can raise general hell in the storage system.  I suppose your account could be deactivated (banned?) if you wish, but your posts will remain.

The one thing the OP can do, however, is change usernames.  That is something that an ordinary user can do, and if RL name tie-in is an issue, that should work as well as deleting.

I'm sorry but Gogle Chrome says that my simtropolis account has been compromised. So I need to delete my account. And with the GDPR, it's an obligation so I'm trying to contact the administrators in order to delete my account...

Hiya. I've received your request (which you sent a few minutes later using the Contact Us thinger) and I can help.

Disregard the old replies above which say accounts cannot be deleted. @Cyclone Boom and I have full access to the member's database and so we can remove all traces of your account that way. Rest assured our full access we have does not allow us (nor even Dirktator, the site owner) to see anyone's password. Those are encrypted by the site software we license.

Simtropolis is not in the European Union so this may not apply.

The only semi-personal information about you stored in our member's database would be the email address you have used assigned to it. Because you now have a publicly viewable post here, I'll change your user name to something non-specific, change the email address to something bogus, and overwrite the password. (While we cannot see what a password is, we can replace it.)

When CB logs in later today, he'll also edit out the name change history so there will be nothing left on file that is tied to you.

Good news.

CB knew how to do this with an actual deletion and that makes your post become owned by the generic Guest entry.

All information about you has been removed.

Ok, now that is sorted here's the proper way to request an account to be deleted: Use the Contact Us thinger located at the bottom of almost all Simtropolis pages. Making a public post just complicates things a wee bit.

So, I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread that way peeps won't see this as the place to post said requests.
