I've never played any Civ game before.  But I do have Civ3 (yeah, still in box).  I'll play my Civ3 before getting Civ4.

I was a Civilization fanatic for many, many years. I think I wore holes in the disks for both Civ 2 and Civ 3.

Unfortunately, the new Civ 4 demands more than my poor, obsolete computer can provide, so I'll have to wait on it until I scrape together enough dough to buy a new machine.

It sucks, but hey, that's life.

Got it! Love it! My computer needs some upgrades to run it better though. 45.gif

Seems to be a common plaint. I'm wondering if I should shell out the dough for it. $50 is ridiculous price to pay for a toy and a computer program, especially if you need to pay more for upgrades.

This was another game I wanted to buy for Christmas, but if it really takes up alot of memory or w/e than I'm not sure if I want to get it... Do you people believe it is so good that I shouldn't even care about those sort of problems?

Hey everyone,

I liked civ 3, and I was wondering to all of those people who own civ 4, if its worth buying? Is it a good game? Worth a hundred dollers?

Civ 4 is an ok game it seems to have a lot of bugs though.

“The American city should be a collection of communities where every member has a right to belong. It should be a place where every man feels safe on his streets and in the house of his friends. It should be a place where each individual's dignity and self-respect is strengthened by the respect and affection of his neighbors. It should be a place where each of us can find the satisfaction and warmth which comes from being a member of the community of man. This is what man sought at the dawn of civilization. It is what we seek today.”

I thought civ 2 was a great step foward, civ 3 was civ 2+, didn't hold my interest too long.  And civ 4 looks like civ 3+, thus civ 2++, is this the case?

I want new development, not just some new window dressing.

Has anyone out there got it?  if so please enlighten!

I have been toying with for a couple of weeks...I needed do some upgrades to my system...Graphics are actually cool, beyond that, I don't like what they have done to a lot of the units...the promotion system took me over a week to understand...The spies are okay, but I still miss the spies from Civ2...I liked overthrowing cities, and secretly nuking(nuke-ing???)them...I'll play it as a time waster, but will wait for a civ game with pluggins like Sim4...That would be real cool...I have been on the civ fanatics site...way too complicated for me...maybe we should send them a how to guide

Man, I was just about to buy it for Christmas, but my computer won't be able to handle... 45.gif28.gif. Well, luckily I'm buying some more memory for my computer this Christmas... maybe I can buy Civ 4 for my birthday.

I hope that Civ 4 is what I hope it to be and not the junk that the first (but not Sid Meyer-made) Call To Power: Civ 3 was. The officially blessed Civ 3 was all I had hoped it was. They really learned a lesson after liscensing the name out for Call to Power, and I hope that it wasn't all in vain...

If it is the real deal, I will just have to bite the bullett to get a new computer. But then that means no BATing for a while. 3.gif

I too recieved the game as a gift.  I have not played any previous versions, so, I won't be able to give a comparison.  As for my review the jury is still out.

It looks ok...but I'm still comparing it to AOE3 to see which one I should buy, but since I have experience and anctually like the AOE series i'm leaning towards that one, but i dunno if Civ 4 is any good yet...

I know! I'm having problems with the game as well. I've been to Civ4.com and they came out with a lot of patches, but it still doesn't work. Now, it isn't my computer that isn't working, it's actually a problem with the game. It keeps crashing, but it isn't a specific time. Sometimes at the very beginning when I push on the button to load the game, or exactly when I start a new world, or when I look at the Civilopedia! It is very annoying. MayorVieira, maybe we can discuss this using PM?

Do yours both meet the minimum requirements?  If so, they still may not meet the recommended requirements, which mine exceeds to a large extent.

It is only a guide and really you should be at least a bit above the minimum requirements to play this. My computer according to the Game Advisor only just does not meet the recommended requirements and says I can play it.

Yes, I'm actually a little above the requirements. I've tried all their patches and it still doesn't work. So, I've been searching the web and many sites are saying that this bug is common in Civ 4. I'm still doing more research. If I find anything I'll let you people know. 44.gif
(The worst thing about this is that my father is a computer guy and we've been working on this for a week and it still hasn't worked at all... we usually don't go to bed until 1:00 am which is bad for his job 21.gif)

Don't tell me it's buggy! 7.gif'); height=15 alt=Insert smilie 7.gif src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/7.gif width=15 border=0>

I want it!  I even had my hands on it the other day - it was marked A$80 and was in a A$40 bin...  thought I'd try and con the salesperson...  no luck...

I'll have to wait a little longer I guess...  perhaps the bugs will be sorted out by then...

Ooops!  I hope I don't spread my similar habits either!18.gif  I guess a generation ago it was fathers working with their kiddoes on their automobiles.21.gif   I got and liked CivIV but this graphics requirement thing is driving me nuts too!  The patch does help, but it still takes 5-10 minutes to load a game.  Without the patch though, I was having to reboot my computer almost every hour!32.gif

Meanwhile the game is cool. The innovations in the game play are more subtle this time, unlike culture and national boundaries introduced in CivIII.  I do like that cities are encouraged to be more specialized, (ie. a religious city, educational city, economic powerhouse, cities geared toward unit creation, etc.); I still lay out hopes that that will be the future of a SimCity V in pursuing regional play also.  I really like the opening score; I now want to find out more about the musical group called Talisman.  The real innovation this time around though is the 3D graphics and animation.   It's also what's causing the drag on my computer.21.gif  I hope that sooner or later I can explain to my wife why I need a $150 video card and why my eyes are bloodshot to my staff, boss, and colleagues at work!3.gif

Be aware since the game suffers of high lag between turns specially when lots of nations are playing around. I personally love HUGE maps with tons of AI players, but in CIV IV things passed the tolerable limit of slowdown... 7.gif
