The Mormon Temple looks great! I think I've seen many churches shining so brightly at nights, so it's not a problem for me. And I agree with KonstantinII, that temple would be a great addition in Simcity. Keep it up :thumb:

T Wrecks: Thank you!. I have worked with the intensity of the lights and I think it looks much better now. I'll going to check if the re-render works.

KonstantinII and Terring: Thanks! The Brigham City Utah Temple it's a beautiful one, but the next in my list are the Los Angeles California and the Gilbert Arizona Temples.

Your bricks are looking a bit funky.

Right now they have really thick, bold grout and the way it is set up, that doesn't look right.

One of two things needs to happen.

    1. Add a bump map to the bricks. Usually when the grout is that thick, the bricks themselves protrude from the wall.

    or

    2. Make the grout a lot thinner.

The night view makes it really noticeable because the light should cast shadows from the bricks when they are how they are, and it isn't.

Great job otherwise. Keep it up.

Wow a lot of really great details in that model, I'm really impressed. I really like the grass texture too, and the wall textures, I can't wait to see the roof and gardens completed.

You should probably work on the pool water a little bit more though, its a bit too choppy and for something that size there should be minimal displacement I would have thought.

And you know the roof texture needs to have join lines running through it, its more patchy, and of course it needs some weathering.

i like it a lot :thumb:

Thank you reddonquixote, your kind words motivate me. I'll be working more in the LA Temple.

Thank you Schriefer, and yes, it's a beautiful Temple.

Beside my religious BAT's, I am starting a new Project: The Embassy Project. And the first building is the Mexican (of course) Embassy in Berlin.

    I hope you like it!

I'm not completely sold on the day version. Right now the design of the building is interesting, but it looks kind of lifeless. It just looks like a gathering of shapes in the form of a building. It doesn't look like a building. Definitely not a place that was associated with real life.

This isn't the fault of anything you have done, but more of what you have yet to do.This is a real building. Look really closely at what it has. What's on the roof? I guarantee it's not just architectural stuff. What's inside those windows? It probably isn't empty, either. The biggest giveaway that this isn't real, however are you textures. This is a lesson every BATer must learn: Don't skip out on the texture work.

    Look at this picture.

    6300410444_3b3b3b7543_z.jpg

Look at how much different it looks than yours, in terms of what is on the facade itself. Look at the top. See those waterstains? Almost every building has waterstains. Anything that doesn't automatically registers as strange in our minds, even if we don't realize it consciously. Look at the change in lightness along the right facade. It gets darker and lighter because of stains and changes in rock, but it usually has some sort of boundary between tiles themselves. There's so much detail lost in there that would really make a massive difference. Take a really long look at many angles all around the building. I said this in the enormously long post in the tips and tricks thread, so I don't expect you to have really read it, but make a reference to every detail in the building. Even if it's way too small to really notice, do a simple shape and put it in. If you do that for everything, it will improve the building a lot.

Now, this isn't so much something you missed, but something that needs to be changed regardless. I can tell you tried to make the tiles in the material, but it isn't coming through because of the renderer. First off, you can try changing the render quality in the rendered frame window up, because I can see you are getting some artifacts on some of the columns anyway. That might help. But also, making the grout more visible could help. Finally, it's important that you get the sense that this is made of stone. And this seems to be very rough stone on this building indeed. You might have to exaggerate here to get that impression, but find a good picture of rocks with lots of divots, like we see here, and make a bump map out of it. (black and white in photoshop) and tile it around your building in the tiles.

Just in terms of what should be changed from what you have already, make the window transparency a lot lower. Right now it's completely transparent which is unrealistic. .7 or .8 is Usually good.

Finally, my suggestion is to change the color of the facade entirely. From the pictures I see, it's much darker, and a lot less blue. In the sun it seems to be pinkish or purple to me, so try and include that. It'll need to be much more red than you think it needs to eliminate most of the blue (of which I see almost none in references) because the sky is projecting a lot of blue on to the facade.

As for night lights, the mexico lights look kinda strange to me atm. Make sure you are using spotlights, and don't go overboard on the intensity. Keep it realistic. Similarly, Idk what's happening in the circular area. There's some beam of light, and a couple bits of color, it is pretty ambiguous right now.

It's really good work right now, it just needs some life. Make us believe that it could be a building.

Good luck and keep it up :)

When do you plan to upload the Temples? They look awesome! Also I am have trouble with the meetinghouse parking lots, the texture seems missing, although I downloaded the parking dependencies you indicated. I tried fixing them in the lot editor and even the "new" lot editor but am having problems making them work. Thanks, being a Mormon myself I really love your work. The only other Temple is the San Diego Temple done a few years back. I would love to have the Salt Lake Temple!

Really great 3D model work, but I agree with Darn42. Textures need more shades, dirt, variation etc.

I was a bit worried about the silence in here. But of course, moving to a different city and picking up studies doesn't leave you much time for your hobbies. I'm glad to read that you're alive and kicking, and eagerly waiting for further progress! :)

Hey guys! Do you know where I can find a tutorial about making my own textures?

I really want to finish my projects before the year ends, but I'm having problems with the textures.  :lost:

What do you mean by tutorial? Inside 3ds Max (Procedural texture), in Photoshop or GIMP, or in a Texture programme like Map Zone?

Any of these would help  :D . I want to know in which program is easier to edit textures.

I use Scrath program. I may be able to make a tutorial if you like.

If you can get photoshop, it's the best. Gimp works in a pinch. There are lots of tutorials already out there. Just a quick google of how to texture in photoshop will get you lots of options.

Inside 3ds max there are a lot of powerful options as well. Just read through some documentation and look for other sites.

My favorite site for tutorials is 3dtotal.com so you can check that out.

I have a tutorial of the composite map in one of my threads,

This is a great option to use in addition to other methods. I usually create a series of grime maps in photoshop that I apply to the main texture through the composite map.

I'm curious to know why do you want to make your own textures? Is the texture you need not able to be found, or do you want the satisfaction of making your own, or do you mean you found a texture but you want to customise it for your BAT? (Which is what I normally do btw...)

Seems like a lot of effort to go to, and personally I think its quite a specialised skill-set that requires a long time and lots of practice to get good at it. If you're still at the tutorial stage, being able to make something that's going to look half-decent on a BAT is not going to be an easy task ahead...
