missing textures after saving

hey everyone,

every time i save the game, some of my lots vanish and only leave their base texture behind. when it happened first, i demolished those lots and rebuilt them, but that didnt seem to help, since it happened over and over again.

its hard to tell which lots are affected because this seem to happen to nearly all lots in a certain part of my city, but only there. never had this problem in other areas...

im running the deluxe edition of simcity 4 in windowed mode, but it also happened when i was running the game in fullscreen in any resolution. i didnt update my graphics driver yet, but i dont think that would solve the issue since its been all fine before.

What is the update version of your game?  To be fully up to date is should be 1,1,640 or 1,1,641.  If it is not, you are missing some published bug fixes.  Find SimCity 4.exe with windows explorer and hover your mouse over the name to see the "version" number.

Hmm...do you have a legal copy of SimCity 4?  Did you install it normally?

Double check your SC4 settings and make sure the "City Details" is set to it's highest setting. Anything less usually has this effect on some lots.

I actually have the same problem since yesterday. I have been playing for many years but his particular problem never occurred before.. The issue doesn't seem to be related to particular buildings (both maxis and custom lots are affected) but more to particular parts of my city. Every time I save and exit the city en re-enter other buidlings have vanished, leaving only their footprint behind (no brown box). I'am not sure if this is relevant, but I recently cleaned up my (very large) plugin folder. The first affected lots were the new Quai de Seine lots, recently updated by Xannepan. After that more followed, although that can just be coincidence.. I'll experiment some more, maybe I can find the cause.

    gr.

All people with this problem:  If your game is not at least at build level 1,1,648 you need the EP1 patch (it is on the STEX).

Think that should be 1,1,638 ;)

    Oerk:

As for updating, try running a different SKU version. There are different patches for each geographical region. It won't do any harm to try each one.

In rare cases, I recall some games suffer from "cross-regional syndrome". This means a game is published in a separate region from the one purchased. For example, a North American game may belong to the European region.

i just did, and none of the different patches applied. it says "old file not found. however a file of the same name was found. no update done since file contents do not match" everytime.

Yes, thank you. Prop pox is definitely the cause of my problem. Al though I can no longer find the culprit resource file, I must surely have deleted it some time ago from my plugin folder. From what I understand after many hours of reading is that there is no real cure to fix a 'poxed' city. Unfortunate, since I spend years developing this city.. Ah well, I'll obliterate the city and try to rebuild it.

Just to be on the safe side: Without the OWW resource file and with a mod that blocks all maxis buildings from growing, the prop pox should stay away right?

i suggest to test all your props to be entirely safe. oww resource files might not be the only currpt props, bap obviously cant test any available plugin and you might have downloaded some files that suffer from prop pox bap did not have.

The reason why Prop Pox usually appears only in almost fully filled large tiles is piling effect over several faulty props, or prop heavy lots. I have to remind that faulty prop(s) were made by Maxis, not Peg. You can usually use OWW lots safely. If Prop Pox appears, I would start cutting from Maxis residential lots and prop heavy lots - like certain ancient forest and divider lots.

In any case, always favor MMPs, because those are considered as flora and does not (in light of any currently known information) cause piling effect toward Prop Pox. It might be tedious job, but visually rewarding.
