Into the Apocalypse

It's me, Simtropolis! I go by many names...well mostly fatherted and A Virtual Duck. Anyway, here's a game I created over at Undead Labs and ported here.

This forum game is simple and easy. All you have to do is continue the main character's story off the last post made. Simple as that.

The main character's name is Gavin Moynihan. On his birthday, when he turned 30, he was knocked unconscious by some...thing...while enjoying a party with his family. When he woke up, they were nowhere to be found. He looked out of the window, to see the city of Dauerstadt in flames. His story continues from there.

Rules:

-Gavin cannot leave Dauerstadt, but his friends can

-He cannot find his family alive

-He can meet other survivors

-The apocalypse cannot be solved

-No divine intervention

-The story must be in first person perspective, past tense.

Those are the rules. Here is the first story segment.

The power was out. Great. I started walking down the stairs, knocking on each door. No answers. No matter, I thought, the police or army must have evacuated them. I stepped out onto Haymarket Avenue. And what I saw astounded me.

The city lay red...
Flaming and broken...

Then he exited to region, reloaded, and it was fine.

I backed off. This wasn't looking good. I decided to make my way over towards a car I coukd see on Kizingo Boulevard. Perhaps I could hotwire it, and make my way out of this godforsaken city.

    !!!IMPORTANT!!!: GAVIN CANNOT LEAVE DAUERSTADT.

As I stare into the distance, I see a open door, I didn't have enough time to hot wire the car so I ran into the open door. Thankfully the room I entered was clear of zombies.

It was a small room, with only one window. Somehow it seemed familiar. Checking around, I spotted a phone in the corner of the room. I tried to use it, but to my frustration there was no dial tone. Somehow I needed to contact my family, and find out what's happening. Pondering over what to do next, I suddenly heard a voice from behind, "hello, is that you Gavin?"

I turned. An awful sight greeted me. A friend that had lived around the corner from me had sought refuge in the same house, but he was horribly disfigured. Blood spurted from his neck, and bite marks spread across his face. I could see one of his ribs. I wondered what I could do.

I turned away in disgust, and suddenly, I spotted a colony of zombies, and before I new it, they were running after me! I leaped out of the window, and ran as fast as I could...

...then I spotted a monstrous truck careering across the road towards me! Having injured my legs in the leap out the window, I couldn't run fast enough to escape it in time. I closed my eyes and waited for the impact...

The truck violently jerked to the left and smashed into a house where it catches fire. But my misfortune is not done yet, the zombies are still after me, so I begin running with my limping legs.

I ran into an apartment and found the elevator standing open. Obviously this building had power. I smacked the top floor button and the door close button as the zombies approached. The doors closed and I began ascending. But when I reached the top I was amazed by what I saw...

Lying on the ground were a group of seemingly freshly beaten zombies inactive on the floor. Beyond me, a door lay ajar. It didn't seem like I was alone here. As I walked through the cleared out corridor, the atmosphere remained eerily quiet...

...and also eerily stinky with noxious gases. Broken glass bottles and tubes lay on the floor. Strange contraptions hang from the ceiling. Apparently this was once a science lab...

When I came to, I was draped out of a broken window, with my feet caught on the frame, the only thing between me and death. I screamed, both in fear and frustration. I was forty stories above a dying city. I saw lights in Regency Tower and realised I had been only streets away from salvation. I moaned and pulled myself up, precariously scraping along the cracked glass window. If it collapsed, I would die. I emerged into the same lab as before, but the zombiecorpses were gone. Something was amiss here. I crept up to look at the dissected human body. An awful sight awaited me, a massive clue to how this had started.

There were maggots on the floor and obscene images of human organs being tested under painful circumstances. I looked around more to find out what they were doing here. I noticed a small white piece of paper sitting on the lab table adjacent to the table with the corpse on it. I picked it up, staring at the logo of the Department of Defense at the top. The paper was talking about a report of "Missing chemical agents" and "High risk weapons" that were missing from the government. I sat the paper down onto the table and scanned the room, thinking I heard movement. There was an odor I began to notice, it wasn't here before, but it was becoming more and more noticeable. I started to follow my sense of smell....

I walked towards a door with a red glow across the room. I heard zombielike groaning and I readied myself with a lead pipe I picked off the floor. I walked into the room and what I saw made me drop the pipe right through the damaged floor.

There was a domelike container, an in it a huge brain submerged in a vat. The brain was mutated, it had several tentacles and one eye on a stalk. It looked at me with it's eye, made some grumbling noises, and broke through the dome. I turned and fled, and the brain went after me. Seeing a fire escape ladder out the window, I went for it. I climbed 3/4 of the way down the ladder, then slipped and fell on the ground.
