Perhaps a brakwater or similar thing. This would have to ba a mixture of mods and bats as the breakwater its self would have to stay at a uniform level even if the land increases or decreases. Perhaps a road on top would be good aswell.

Oh and by the way in lot editor there are rail piece overlays if that helps you mike

Upgradeable Capacity of Mass Transit Stations/Stops/Terminals??

Would it be possible? Let me elaborate a bit more on this. I'll start with an example: The Short Landing Strip (smallest airport).

When it is placed, it has a capacity of 10K passengers, and shows only one Hangar as a visual indicator to this capacity. As demand increases, you will be prompted by a message to upgrade the Strip (Yes/No). Selecting Yes will cause the Strip to be re-constructed, and after a short period, the Strip appears with a second hangar indicating it has been upgraded to 20K passengers. Again, as demand grows, another stage of upgrade will be prompted, which will go through same re-construction sequence when approved, revealing a 3rd hangar to visually indicate that the Strip has been upgraded to 30K passengers. No further upgrades are possible beyond this max capacity.

Now, can't we apply similar concept to transportation stations/stops/terminals? A bus station for example can start with a capacity of say 1000 (as is by default). Current 1x1 bus stop has its rare half almost empty aside from that fence. So, it can be altered and replaced by just a bench to visually reflect the 1000 capacity. When it reaches this limit, an upgrade prompt message appears with a hyperlink (e.g. this station needs upgrade) to take you to the stop in question. Approving the upgrade will double the capacity (2000K) and will cover the bench for example with a shelter occupying the front half of the lot (leaving the rare empty as is). When time comes, the 2nd upgrade takes place and capacity increases to 3000 or even more. To visually reflect this, a second shelter can be added to the rare half with another bench but in opposite direction (or any other design) without the need to change the 1x1 lot size.

Similar can be applied to other Mass Transit stations (Subway, Trains, ...etc). This will to a great extent relief us from destroying game-standard stations/stops when becoming overcrowded and/or replacing them with custom-created lots, and would be consistent with other transit gateways (Air and Sea Ports).

Back to the main question: could this be done? Sounds a combined Modding/BATing project. Hope it is possible; it is already there for Airports and Harbours.

easy... what kinds of traffic you want? taxi, bus, car? problem is I can make the game check if any bus station are there, so if you ask for random bus spawns, you can get buses in a busstop-less city.

I'd like to see a realistic residential population mod, because 14 people in a house is not what I call realistic.
So I think something in the like of the industry quadrupler would make me happy. Maybe a residential 'halfer' or 'thirder'... Yes, I know population would drop, but that's my goal. Maybe a comercial mod would be necessary to cope with the new demand, like dropping commercial capacity by the same factor as residential...

this may or may not be possible. Who ever made the mod that makes res/comm/indust buildings show more infomation then what programmed it to show, can you also make it so rewards do the same thing? I love how it shows the demand cap replif (I think) how my airpot is doing, how long the feight time for my industs are, etc.

now for some that I put on SCCF:
What about one that shows the traffic level in underground mode? I know there was one possible, don't know where I had gotten it from. or how about one that while you make the res/comm/indust it doesnt' put streets, but roads instead? or if possible one way roads. if the 2nd isn't possible, that's fine. or if the 1st isn't, that is fine as well.

caiomarcus, I have already made that but it is not at SimTropolis because I am waiting for the right time hehe. However, anyone can get it at Realistic Resident Mod or if that does not work Realistic Resident Mod by N&R Productions

It only affects low-density residents as I felt that medium and high were good enough! Also, check out the first CJ with that mod Lillford Pass

To stop your incessant bumpings and questions, I believe that the properties of reward buildings cannot be changed however I am not sure! I will have a look and get back to you!

Underground mode I believe can not be changed by us and I odnt think that auto-roads can be changed at all!

I have a small request. I would like too see a mod to put telephone poles along streets and roads, but not avanues or one way roads. and it shall not conflict with any other modd, encluding the network addon. I think it would be cool.44.gif

i have asked this question 3 TIMES and have not goten a response, so here it is again
 
i would like somebody to make a Reconconile mod so that when you reconconile the edges of your cities it doesn't destroy neighbor connection or buildings in the way (unless there is an above ground transportation network from your neighbor city come through or there is some water) and it would basicly just make the land match the neighbor city.

As far as I know, the reconcile edges section of SC4 is unable to be changed as it is hard-coded to the .exe. Sorry for the disappointment.

I have had an idea for a mod... don't know if it has been requested before, but here goes.

I like the idea of having a China Town in my cities, but unless you plop the whole thing, it is kind of impossible.

My thought, and it can be applied to more than one concept, is to have a statue for instance (maybe a budha) and it has a radius of influence. In that radius, the china/asian flavour buildings have a much higher desirablity for being built.

Would that work?

Would it be possible to create a mod that shows the locations of all the bus stops in your city and their bus routes to ease the making of your bus network, and I've been looking around for a terraformed mars texture, that has grass at lowest altitudes and then brownish\red dirt, which turn into ice and glaciers at high altitudes, also, can somebody make a drivable Delorean car, I dont know how to mod at all, so I need help4.gif4.gif4.gif4.gif

1. Diagonal elevated train stops, square shaped rail systems are ineffective sometimes and its hard to find good spots to plop stations without destroying development or making bisarre constructions when you need a stop on diagonal rail. 2. Wasteland theme; abandoned buildings, destroyed buildings, overgrown buildings, trash, road tiles with trashed cars, destroyed highways, just anything that could be used in a wasteland scenario. They doesnt need to be functional just as long as there is a wasteland feel to it. Im a great fan of the Fallout games, maybe some models could be fetched from there i know there are some guys making a Fallout mod for Civilization 3 using models from Fallout Tactics.

How about a mod that replaces streets with roads when just making rci areas without holding down SHIFT ?

Unfortunatly, there is no way to give preference to certain building groups in a city. Growth is controlled by a number of factors such as desirability, gowth stage and demand, but you cannot have desirability for style xxx. What you could try out is make sure all those buildings are in a certain preset style (for example the Houston style) and then turn off all the other styles. If desirability is high in the region you want them to grow, the buildings should pop up more there.

auto-roads are hardcoded in the game and thus we cannot change them. I personally prefer to first lay down my roads and then lay down zone with shift anyway, I think this gives much better control over your road network.
 
just to say... people, we do look at this thread... so keep the ideas coming... who know, somebody might have a great idea we haven't thought of yet :)

my idea for a mod is a city specifict mod, this would work by ordinances, Example: if you whant all the water in your city to be dark blue you would entact the dark blue water ordinance.

unfortunatly, it is impossible to add ordinances... to do this one would have to remove an existing ordinance
secondly, it's impossible to change textures while the game is running afaik

hey ladys and gents, i have 2 requests, my first one came from creating a region of just flat land then going from map to map to create the look of the region, how about the terraforming tools in the region map, this way you could create your region the way you want before you have to enter any smaller maps(i had trouble matching the rivers between smaller maps,lol@me)

and the second one is double decker highways as they have in the usa(im aussie) that way one could save on space. i have read this thread and there has been some great ideas, shame that some of them are impossable to do. thanks4.gif

I read earlier a post about adding some SC3k disasters back in, and it got me thinking about Hurricanes. Would it be possible to add a hurricane disaster mod? Things to improve life-likeness would be complete cloud cover during the storm, a lessening of contrast on the screen (making it look a bit misty) to imitate the reduced visibility, I'm pretty sure trees can't be made to sway, but maybe cars could be randomly moved around and faux rain effects that sweep across the city could cause the illusion of wind. A few battered building textures could be knocked up (or even just using the dilapadated and abandoned building textures) and added to some of the taller builtings to make them look damaged and inhospitable. Smaller $1 and $$1 buildings could also be abandoned or destroyed completley. Then throw in the destruction of power lines, rising of water (or lowering of entire terrain, same effect) and some random fires and you have a hurricane disaster!

Of course after this, disasters are probably hardcoded and I just wasted my time 1.gif

Hey, I'm new here and I'm wondering if there is a mod that makes police, fire, and hospital coverage area cover a bigger area than they do right now. I tried to look for a mod that does this but been unable to find one. Thanks.

1.Can volcanoes be made bigger? I already have a mod that made the volcano spew out more lava, but it would be cool to have a wider radius so it would look more like a real volcano and have more destructive power too.

2. Fires are also weak, made tweak it up a little and preferably make forests more flammable as forest fires are real big natural disasters.

I have a couple of requests.

1. Make a NYC style subway with express trains stops and both express local. IE another type of subway stop that has more capacity.

2. Easier tunnels. Make it so you can build a tunnel like a subway. or like a bridge.

2a. A tunnel highway system like the big dig in boston. To get rid of the 1950's abover ground Bridge type highway they went underground. Very nice.

3. More types of Rail stations. IE. Penn Station in NYC and Grand Central Station have more than one track of rail going in to them and also have subway.

4. Rail stations underground.

Another option is making lots that let cars travel on the subways.
