What did you use to make this? I want to make one for Crossrail in London.

nathanthemayor - thanks for the welcome; got a lot to learn.

balth3465 - like the advice. Will give it all a try. I assume that I can find the NAM mod ...

here's a problem, though. Thought this was a Cities SL 2011 forum. that's what I'm playing. Does your NAM advice hold true in for CXL11?

Thanks guys. In my cities, there is still a traffic problem in CXL11. Have enjoyed this - thanks again. Moving over to a CXL forum.

PS veija translates as veija anywhere I go.

I made this one today...as you can see I still have a lot of work to do (construction wise5.gif)

Yes I know two stations are missing names, I couldn't think any for them, as they don't actually exist yet.

It's a neat network you have there, but the Braun-Wabash and Jackson-Wabash lines bug me. Why don't you make them one full line? Same with the red and grey lines. Wouldn't that be more realistic?

Also, on how much city tiles does this span? (Is it a Metro North / S-Bahn type map?)

Well to answer your 1st question, I suppose it's all a matter of the way the tracks are laid out, and the development around them....Also I don't think such a long line would be realistic.

Which brings me to your 2nd question. This system covers about 81 large city tiles, as it is a regional rail system....I actually need to add to this map to cover the entire 108, which is the size of my region this system is in.

Ahh, I was thinking it was a much more restrained network (maybe a few city tiles). But in such a case, are not many cities left out of the network? There isn't so much stations, but it indeed answers why lines look so short. None wants a 120 km long regional rail line (yeah, S12 in K

I felt a bit inspired today, so I made a map of the, while somewhat small, Capital City of my upcoming CJ:

You can click here for a larger resolution map (although with the tiling, it's not by way too much, but might help ou read some of the street names and such.

And now after posting I realized a mistake on my map 3.gif

I just wished to upload the renewed version of my Sedona city transit map. Basically, what I did was a major in-game revamp of the subway network. Now the system is more efficient, since twice less trains would technicially be used in the current setting; it is also less complicated to understand. Most lines were merged (U1, 2, 10 and 11, or U3, 8, 17, 44) and the S-Bahn was tweaked to cope with the overgrowing conjection on all of my rail lines.

Mainly added more expansions in city districts previously unscathed. What I mainly worked on was adding more detail; I've therefore spent countless hours renaming every and each of my cities' schools, hospitals, monuments - up to bus stops and a few major roads. I also cleaned most of the obvious absurdities that plagued my city ( Lili Elbe International Airport within a sea of skyscrappers for instance ), and obviously made it greener. Sedona lost 250'000 inhabitants in the process, but at least now it's credible. Most station names come from Irish or Scottish names (Inishmore being an Irish isle); many are based on Cologne real places, there are a few Settler-VI and The Elder Scroll names in, a few SC4-based stations (Core Center), and countless streetnames based on like-minded and/or held-in-high-esteem people. A very few are purely made up and a couple come straight from Berlin ^^

Multiple stations also seem to work wonders in-game. Separating traffic in Cropsfordstr / Willestr (a 3D version of the train station being online on Second Life, for those interested), for instance, placed both subway stations from red to green in terms of congestion. I've been trying it on other knots - the ten stations at Sedona Hbf, Loreleistr / Jorgensonstr, Wutai East Station, and Bocklemünd -- quite a nice trick that adds some desirability in the process. :3

As for the actual software used to do the map... Paint.exe. Nothing beats it. :3

Thanks a lot!

I am currently expanding this map to include ALL of the Sedona network, as well as the WHOLE S-Bahn, Regiobahn networks. I am also adding the subway systems in Rathlin and Hajira into my work. It's about 400 stations, indeed. All are named in-game and the proper characteristics and interchanges are indeed respected. Hajira, having been a GLR served town (premetros), has a much tighter grid than Rathlin or Sedona, which doesn't extand quite as far.

SamPkillER : I like your map, but you should really fix the station naming. Blaite Cove, Mleant Dove, Municipal Building you should put higher on your map, with other stations on the other side or cut in two. That would sound much more readable, I think.

A sneak peek at the ferry network system. I've added it for the mere reason there were two totally blank spaces on the map (where there would be water in game). There's a bit of Rathlin's named stations on the side, including the TransAir Shuttle (U69) serving facilities in Karen Ulane Airport. Line naming follows the Düsseldorf model (with Köln having the 1 to 18, Bonn the 60s + 16 and 18, Düsseldorf the 70s, and so on).

And here I go again with real-world networks. Still pretty close to home for me, in St. Petersburg. Made with Inkscape which I'm trying to learn. Click to expand full map:

Indeed! That's the first version of my FULL map. Included is the Hajiran Straßenbahn (It used to be a GLR, but now most is actually underground); the Rathlin City Subway (largely planned in advance, that subway system was built as a chunk), the Sedona Stadtbahn that we've been seeing already (with added stuff, of course); what's new now? I've added the RegioBahn network [That could be considered a S-Bahn, only it's not cadenced, goes further off, and is meant to carry traffic from outer sections], the S-Bahn HRS network (I had wanted to draw eight separate lines, but in the end I'm only making one, it clogs too much in downtowns), the Intercity network as a smaller, separate map (It's NOT an ICE, only higher-speed trains. Why it's not worth to put too much high speed is that the islands are really somewhat 100 x 100 km, in total. So, basically, the only development is around the train lines, which reduces the need for branching off lines, while casual Intercity trains can totally do the job, high speed trains would never have time to reach their true potential.), and finally the ferry network map I posted, which covers all of southern Sedona. All stations are named [and in game they are too..], I've added the traffic schedules [some stations are only served by some lines at some times -- the Rathlin Corridor on lines U61, 65, and 67 is served local by all lines during offpeak, but in peak hours 61 and 67 become express, as 65 is by far the shortest line and doesn't carry as much commuters, whereas the two others are heavily loaded], and more detail. The legend is quite impressive.

Here comes (click for full resolution) :

sbahnfullmap.jpg

Here are the zoomed-in parts (posted in half) :

West side (most of Rathlin and Hajira) There's Waren, Tyria, Sarah and the Harbor, most of Hajira, Inisheer, as well as the ferry system.

Map-NW.jpg

Map-SW.jpg

East Side (Sedona) : It contains most of the northern outlands, the missing parts of Hajira, Midgar, Sedona, the Intercity network, Lauberg, and the suburbs of Sedona.

Map-NE.jpg

Map-SE.jpg

If you can't zoom in, or anything, I'll upload it in bigger parts. It's always interesting to see the station names. I put lots of references in these. Some about Simtropolis. 3.gif

No offense, but try reading the topic first. That one has been asked and answered several times. Basically:

There are so many ways to make these maps that it's not really even possible to make a unified tutorial. Just open a program that can draw lines and start playing around. But be warned, it is quite manual labor.

Thanks ROFLYoshi and kj3400. It's pretty much how big I conceive a genuine regional system. :> I can make it bigger...I can add the bus lines! (Not sure if I will. I'll rather work on my CJ.)

Joe, are you going to make your whole region in such maps, too? ^^ Cause that'd be great. xD
